Johnny talks about new album and musical direction.

I'm not sure what I want to call this album but I've been tossing names around. As far as content goes I want to explore the avenue of outlaw country music that was in the vein of Waylon, Johnny, and Merle. Though I don't want to drop my overall blues flavor I like to throw in to everything. You can't make a good chilli without a little spice if you know what I mean. But I've been sitting back listening to that country music that had feeling, some old timey pre war stuff, and a mixture of blues and folk. But this is definitely a newer direction for me music and content wise. I want to go down that road that my Grandpa Jack took and see if I can't do him a little justice. Dust off some of his old tunes that haven't seen the light of day for a while along with adding my own flavor and tunes. I think it'll be an interesting endeavor. I'd gone in that direction before but the album was a bit of a horror folk country concept type thing. I want to go more into the vein of that sound without twisting it up this time around.

Erich:*swoons* oh Johnny, you know how terribly I missed you? I put up flyers at every bar I go to. I even offered a reward of fifty dollars...or equivalent to be paid in marihuana....preferbly in weed. I never carry cash.

Johnny: You can rest easy sir. Take all those flyers down before people start really freaking out. I've been hiding in the hills with Ms. Roxy for a while and trying to actually live a little without the pressure of recording or touring breathing down my neck. It was nice to kick my feet up for a while. But I got the itch again to play and hit the road. She's a pretty constant mistress. The highway and music that is. I thought you may have gone overboard when I saw my face on the milk I was drinking. It was a real bad driver's license looking picture too. You could've done a little better with your selection of photographs. It sucks to be missing but a bit more unflattering if it's an ugly picture.

Erich: the flyers may have been dropped by dc10 from one side of the USA to the other...there is no going back now. I had to use that picture,it's the only one I have of you. I may have cloned your license... For your own good, you may not want to visit Australia. There were incidents...yours was the only Id I had.

Behind the new album name and meaning behind it. He's also currently label shopping.

The Mountain and The Road. I almost wanted to have one of those added on names with a colon that gives it more of a conceptual feel. But I realized this speaks enough really. The mountain and the road are two fold for me. They're both home for me. If I'm not wandering on the road I get that itch to run and travel. Then at the same time I miss home and what it means to me to be there. This isn't a concept album of any kind though but it is the name of the title track so I guess it makes sense. I feel like every where I go, there I am, you know? Being at home and on the road are both addictions to me that are hard to quit. Both of them are on constant call and I eventually have to answer one of them. If I don't I'm sure I 'd go insane. This a pretty simple explanation.

I'm also looking at two labels to sign on too because I want to have a label to call home for a while. North Hill and Songs To Live and Die By are my top prospects right now. Each look like they have something to offer and carry some good artists. Though I'm more inclined to head to STLADB because of their indie status. Though if I do reach a decision I'm sure you will all know very soon. Until then keep on trucking and keep your eyes peeled for me. I'll be back around on the road here soon.

Johnny talks about his warm up album he did for kicks, getting back on the road, and future projects!

I'd been sitting around with Roxy a lot and fell into a bit of a creative stump. One night I was sitting on the back porch having a puff on a joint listening to my pandora radio. When suddenly my stoned brain was laid upon with some genius! A little folk tune by Shel Silverstein and I had no damned idea he wrote half the shit he did. I love his poetry of course. There's a copy of "A Light In The Attic" among my collection of books. The man wrote A Boy Named Sue, I about shit a brick when I learned that. So after a few more tokes and a bit of research I was able to put together a little warm up tribute album to get myself back in the swing of things. You know making music and all that good stuff. So you're gonna get a nice little happy album that was made with a lot of love and a good it of a weed for a under appreciated genius.

Smokin' and Jokin' With Uncle Shelby!

Track List:

1. A Front Row Seat To Hear Ole Johnny Sing
2. A Boy Named Sue
3. Freakin' At The Freakers Ball
4. On The Cover of The Rollin' Stone
5. The Great Smoke Off
6. The Taker
7. A Couple More Years
8. Beans Taste Fine
9. Liz
10. It Does Not Pay To Be Hip
11. Blue Eyes
12. Bury Me In My Shades

Anyway as far as my other projects go. I want to get the band I started with Erich Hess back together. We got to must chemistry not to work together. We're like rats fucking in a wool sock. Hot, sweaty, and making a screeching fucking racket. I hope to join him for No Venues to get my chops back in order on the stage.

Any future record plans will probably done with Brandon Caulfield in mind. I've always wanted to record with the guy. He's the one musician out there I have a deep respect for. So I want to get together with him and do a collaboration. Not sure what the details of the album will be but I know it will be stellar with him on the album. I think we have a nice working chemistry together even though we've only played once together. Some people you just click with.

The last big thing on my list is I'm planning a big Labor Day Jam and humungous charity cookout. One day festival whoever wants to come can do so. I want to put a big stage and invite fans as well as musicians alike. Give the money to some labor organizations and some after school charities. It's something myself and Hen have been working on for a while. So it's a one baby project that I want to see work. So yeah, Mr Daniels is still alive contrary to popular belief and so am I. You'll see more of me as the weeks go by. I just couldn't sit around and sit on my ass any more.

Erich: I think everyone has that reaction when they make the dr hook and guy who wrote where the sidewalk ends connection. I thought I stepped into bizzaro world, and dogs would walk people. I was looking forward to the free range shiting, but alas....no. Bizarro world wasnt real, and shel did write rock songs. I have smoked more weed than I care to remember to " I got stoned and I missed it."

Not dead yet.

I found him in some cross town dive bar. He was definitely not dressed for this century. You can barely see his eyes because of the hair hanging in front of his face. On top of his head is dusty and floppy looking fedora that breaks up the swirl of cigarette smoke around his face. There was a glass of bourbon in his hand that he swirled in his hand a bit before he took a drink. "Damn, Johnny, you look rough." There was a small chuckle as he nursed the cigarette in between his lips a bit. "A little but I ain't dead yet." I could only nod my head and agree with his sentiment. That much was true.

He often left every one wondering about what the hell happened to him. Because of his habit of hitting the scene for a while, releasing an album, making waves, and then just riding off into the night. It made people wonder if he died, got into drugs, or just gave the hell up on music. Who the hell knew any more? The man was a damn enigma and seemed to like it that way. I have since stopped trying to figure him out. But now he looked like a relic from the 20s with his clothes. But at least they worked for him.

"I really need to quit smoking. My voice sounds so much better. The last time I quit I had to admit singing was more enjoyable. Then there's that whole not having cancer thing." When he said that his eyebrows wiggled a bit knowingly and then he snuffed out the cancer stick in the ash tray. "So what's the deal anyway? New music, album, or anything?" I asked him the question almost not expecting an answer or something standoffish. "I got to admit. I get disillusioned and bored with the music industry quickly. So I say fuck it and leave. Better too just run off and not ask questions. I love making music, writing, and all that. I hate the life that comes with it. The politics and attention. I think I'm just going to focus on making small EPs any more instead of albums. They stress me the fuck out and create turmoil. Any big album projects will be more theme focused I think. Concepts, stories, that kinda thing. I realized it's better when I'm telling a story and it makes it less harder to be personal. I want to get into producing more I think and perhaps working more in the studio with other musicians. I want to put myself out there more. But seems like most people I want to play with never got the time." I nodded because it seemed a reasonable answer coming from a guy like him and a suitable one. "So you're not dead yet." Then he shook his head and nodded. "Nope, not unless the cigarettes get me or something else does." Then he went up to the small rickety stage and played two Dylan tunes which I recognized as "You ain't goin' nowhere" and "Goin' To Apaculco." There wasn't much more to talk about and I just watched him leave through the back door. That man is still a mystery to me and exudes some aloof cool that I wish I could harness.

Johnny: Thanks man. I think cool is just a state of mind. It's a zen thing. You got to feel cool to be cool. Something like that. But it's all in the head. That said. I need to harness this into music. Some how.

OOC: Thanks I decided to get on the writing wagon after New Years and start plying my craft a bit more.
