MATT URIE DISCUSSES THE UPCOMING SUBURBAN SUNRISE ALBUM & WHAT TO EXPECT!Hey everyone! Matt here. Since we announced that Suburban Sunrise would be coming back a few days ago, my twitter, facebook and even my email have been flooded with people curious about the new music, and I mean, rightfully so, I would be curious as hell to know what a band that's been gone for a little over two years is going to be bringing to the table, especially in an industry like this where everything is changing constantly. Well, I've decided to write the first official post of the new website and kind of give you guys an insight as to what the future holds for Suburban Sunrise and to let you guys know what to sort of expect from this new album that's going to be out really soon!
First off, we just had a meeting with our agent and manager about a tour we're scheduling for this spring. Yes, I know it's already spring, but spring goes on for a bit! We talked about what bands we want to take on the road with us, we talked about what cities we want to hit (We're coming for you world!) and basically just what we want the overall feel to be of this upcoming tour. I'm going to let you all know right now way ahead of time, we will not be playing any of the old music on this upcoming tour. It's going to be all new stuff. Why? Because we were gone for two years. Imagine what we're doing now as a complete re-start and new beginning for Suburban Sunrise.. Imagine this record that we're putting out (really soon I might add) is our debut LP. Like as if you have no idea who the hell we are. From 2010-2012 was a different band. This lineup that we have right now, this original lineup only put out one EP together and fans that have been around since the very beginning know that the sound on that first EP is nothing like what ended up being the "Love, Lust, Lies" sound that featured Nicole for the first time. We're getting back to where we started essentially and we want fans to come out to our shows for who we are now, not who we were. If you stop liking us because of what I just said, that's cool, I totally understand! If you're still curious as to what we have in store for you guys, that's even cooler. So expect a tour announcement really soon guys!
Let's move onto what you guys can expect from this album. I think it's safe to do this, the album is titled "When Pigs Fly." We settled on this title because we had some mutual friends ask if we'd ever be in a band together again and we'd all answer "When pigs Fly" so we decided you know what, that's going to be the name of our album because apparently, a pig was flying around somewhere! The tone of this album is kind of all over the place. It's consisted of 11 songs, and the first half of the songs are very upbeat, very dancy and it's us really getting back to our Pop-Punk roots that we started as anyway. The second half of the album is a little more serious, and has a more melodic, and folk vibe. There are two acoustic tracks on this record as well that I think the ladies specifically are going to swoon over. I hate to disappoint everyone who liked the later SS music but there is no screaming on this record. We decided that it wasn't a good idea to have the scream vocals on this album because there is really no place for them. There is however, one song in particular, the opening track of the album, is really heavy. It kind of follows that "metal-core" formula but doesn't have any scream vocals and we added our own little flair to it. We played Warped Tour in 2010 which was the first year people really started noticing us, and when we were on that tour our sound was very very dancy and pop-punkish, which is really what we got back to with this album, well half of it anyway. With that being said, the second half of the record is a bit calmer. It's still fun and I'm sure people are still going to dance to those songs at the shows, but the second half of this new album is where we show people how we've matured as musicians. Dan and I co-wrote just about every song on the second half of the album as well, instead of me writing one full song (lyrically) and then him writing one full song (lyrically as well) like what we did with the first half. Did we bring any electronic elements to this album like the old SS song "Two Birds, One Stone?" That's a question I've got a lot of as well, and the answer is yes. There are two songs, one on the first half, and one on the second half that have really heavy electronic elements. Is it the same kind of synth from the old SS stuff? No, it's a lot more dancy and upbeat.
So, I think that just about wraps things up! I really hope that you are all as excited to here tour new album "When Pigs Fly", and I hope that you guys all stay on the look out for our upcoming tour announcement! A long with the tour announcement we'll be releasing the album art work and release date so stay on the look out! I hope you're all still as stoked as we are!
