We're Back!

Started in 2010, Suburban Sunrise, are a American rock and roll band based out of Los Angeles California. Blending the perfect amount of hard rock and baroque pop, Suburban Sunrise took the music industry by storm when arriving on the scene in late 2010! Having two top 5 albums, and three top 3 singles Suburban Sunrise, were a force to be reckoned with from 2010-2012. In mid 2011 the band announced, via Culture Uncut that guitarist Dan Richards and drummer Kaolin Walsh would be leaving the band to pursue new options. When the two left the band, the world was introduced to young, energetic, vocalist, Nicole Woods. While Nicole was with Suburban Sunrise they released possibly the bands most successful and known song "Vulture", which peaked at #2 on the weekly airplay charts and topped off at #3 on the weekly download charts. After the bands success began to die down, it was announced that bassist Nick Johnson would be leaving the band to return home to pursue a college degree. The band went on to release only one more album with Nicole, before she was tragically killed in early 2012 from a head on car collision. After the passing of their main vocalist, remaining member Matt Urie(Vocals & Guitar) announced that he didn't feel it was correct for him to continue on with Suburban Sunrise without Nicole, and without any of the original founding members.

Now, Suburban Sunrise is back with all the original members! Matt Urie back on main vocals, Dan Richards returning to play guitar, Nick Johnson back to play bass, and Kaolin Walsh is back to hit hard on the drums! Matt had this to say about the decision to start up Suburban Sunrise again even with the passing of their former vocalist; "You know, when it happened [the death of Nicole] it was just me and her. There was no one else with us except for live members. We didn't have any of the original, founding members except for myself, so I just felt like it was time to give it up. We were all friends with Nicole, and we all miss her a lot every single day, but there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and I think that Nicole would want us to carry on the legacy of Suburban Sunrise. And guitarist Dan Richards, who had a falling out with Urie in early 2011 had this to say about reuniting with the rest of the original members, and what sparked the decision to bring the band back; It's interesting actually. Matt and I ran into each other at a Guitar Center store back home in California and it was really awkward at first. A lot of tension really. We then kind of just talked at the store a little bit about what we were both doing with our lives at the moment. We had seen each other at Nicole's funeral before but didn't say anything to each other. I asked Matt to come over and jam with me with some acoustic stuff and it was just like old times. We realized that what were fighting over in 2010-2011 was just a bunch of stupid stuff. We were also a lot younger back then. We were 18 and stupid. That's really what it came down to. Matt and I are both 22 now so you know, we've both grown up in different ways and we just felt like it was right for us to get the band back together! With a brand new album completely recorded and ready to be released, one thing is certain, Suburban Sunrise are ready to get out there and start back up again!

MATT URIE DISCUSSES THE UPCOMING SUBURBAN SUNRISE ALBUM & WHAT TO EXPECT!

UserPostedImage

Hey everyone! Matt here. Since we announced that Suburban Sunrise would be coming back a few days ago, my twitter, facebook and even my email have been flooded with people curious about the new music, and I mean, rightfully so, I would be curious as hell to know what a band that's been gone for a little over two years is going to be bringing to the table, especially in an industry like this where everything is changing constantly. Well, I've decided to write the first official post of the new website and kind of give you guys an insight as to what the future holds for Suburban Sunrise and to let you guys know what to sort of expect from this new album that's going to be out really soon!

First off, we just had a meeting with our agent and manager about a tour we're scheduling for this spring. Yes, I know it's already spring, but spring goes on for a bit! We talked about what bands we want to take on the road with us, we talked about what cities we want to hit (We're coming for you world!) and basically just what we want the overall feel to be of this upcoming tour. I'm going to let you all know right now way ahead of time, we will not be playing any of the old music on this upcoming tour. It's going to be all new stuff. Why? Because we were gone for two years. Imagine what we're doing now as a complete re-start and new beginning for Suburban Sunrise.. Imagine this record that we're putting out (really soon I might add) is our debut LP. Like as if you have no idea who the hell we are. From 2010-2012 was a different band. This lineup that we have right now, this original lineup only put out one EP together and fans that have been around since the very beginning know that the sound on that first EP is nothing like what ended up being the "Love, Lust, Lies" sound that featured Nicole for the first time. We're getting back to where we started essentially and we want fans to come out to our shows for who we are now, not who we were. If you stop liking us because of what I just said, that's cool, I totally understand! If you're still curious as to what we have in store for you guys, that's even cooler. So expect a tour announcement really soon guys!

Let's move onto what you guys can expect from this album. I think it's safe to do this, the album is titled "When Pigs Fly." We settled on this title because we had some mutual friends ask if we'd ever be in a band together again and we'd all answer "When pigs Fly" so we decided you know what, that's going to be the name of our album because apparently, a pig was flying around somewhere! The tone of this album is kind of all over the place. It's consisted of 11 songs, and the first half of the songs are very upbeat, very dancy and it's us really getting back to our Pop-Punk roots that we started as anyway. The second half of the album is a little more serious, and has a more melodic, and folk vibe. There are two acoustic tracks on this record as well that I think the ladies specifically are going to swoon over. I hate to disappoint everyone who liked the later SS music but there is no screaming on this record. We decided that it wasn't a good idea to have the scream vocals on this album because there is really no place for them. There is however, one song in particular, the opening track of the album, is really heavy. It kind of follows that "metal-core" formula but doesn't have any scream vocals and we added our own little flair to it. We played Warped Tour in 2010 which was the first year people really started noticing us, and when we were on that tour our sound was very very dancy and pop-punkish, which is really what we got back to with this album, well half of it anyway. With that being said, the second half of the record is a bit calmer. It's still fun and I'm sure people are still going to dance to those songs at the shows, but the second half of this new album is where we show people how we've matured as musicians. Dan and I co-wrote just about every song on the second half of the album as well, instead of me writing one full song (lyrically) and then him writing one full song (lyrically as well) like what we did with the first half. Did we bring any electronic elements to this album like the old SS song "Two Birds, One Stone?" That's a question I've got a lot of as well, and the answer is yes. There are two songs, one on the first half, and one on the second half that have really heavy electronic elements. Is it the same kind of synth from the old SS stuff? No, it's a lot more dancy and upbeat.

So, I think that just about wraps things up! I really hope that you are all as excited to here tour new album "When Pigs Fly", and I hope that you guys all stay on the look out for our upcoming tour announcement! A long with the tour announcement we'll be releasing the album art work and release date so stay on the look out! I hope you're all still as stoked as we are!

-Matt Urie

Suburban Sunrise Presents...
"Where I've Been"

UserPostedImage

Artist: Suburban Sunrise
Song: Where I've Been
Time: 3:52
Genre: Rock N Roll
Written By: Matt Urie & Dan Richards

"Where I've Been" is Suburban Sunrise's first single out since they announced their return last week. "Where I've Been" is also the first single off of the bands upcoming album "When Pigs Fly." This song tells the story of wandering alone and finding your path. The lyrics were co-written by vocalist Matt Urie and guitarist Dan Richards in October of 2013 and was recorded in December 2013.

The band chose this song as their first single back because they feel like it really tells a story and resembles where the band has been, and where they plan on going in the near future.

Dan Richards
This song is one of my favorites on the album. It was the third song that Matt and I wrote together after deciding to re-start the band and really set the ball in motion for what we were going to write. I wrote the guitar riff with Nick and then Kaolin just came in and kicked as on the drums. Earlier this week when Matt made the post about what to expect from the new record he talked a little bit about how it's split right down the middle when it comes to sound. The first half is more "pop-punk" and the second half is more, I guess you would say "indie-rock?" This song is on the second half of the album obviously. I think that this is really going to help the fans understand who we are now, and know that we're not the same musicians we were when we first started

Matt Urie
"Where I've Been" is a sad song to me. It's not meant to be a sad song but that's just kind of how it turned out. The lyrics are about reminiscing on old memories and looking forward to where you're going. I'm not exactly sure why, but to me it's just sad. This is my second favorite song on the record, but I think it's the best fit for our first single back so that people can familiar with the new sound. Sure, this song doesn't represent the first half of the album but, it is a really good representation of the album

Lyrics

Verse 1
I fell
I slept
I cried
I swore
To break away from the past
Just like the time's before
I've seen the sky
The ground
The leaves
It just doesn't feel the way
That it supposed to be

All the cities I've seen
Never made me feel
Like I do when I see
Your face in my sleep, in my dreams
The places I've been, tell who I'm meant to be

Chorus
We know who we are
We know where we've been
But I'll never understand
I'm always hurt
I'm always burnt
I'm in your arms and it feels just right
We've been
Back again
But you'll never understand
Where I've been

Verse 2
Looking out the window on a train
Feeling lost, watching the tree's blow in the breeze
I broke away from those dreams
I'll never see your face, I'll break away and fly away

Chorus
We know who we are
We know where we've been
But I'll never understand
I'm always hurt
I'm always burnt
I'm in your arms and it feels just right
We've been
Back again
But you'll never understand
Where I've been

Break
We've been
Back again
But you'll never understand
We've been
Back again
But you'll never understand

Chorus
We know who we are
We know where we've been
But I'll never understand
I'm always hurt
I'm always burnt
I'm in your arms and it feels just right
We've been
Back again
But you'll never understand
Where I've been
