EVANGELINE BACKSTAGE
Evangeline sits in the green room alone. She has her phone in her hand, scrolling through it, looking nervous. She had performed so many times in her life, but she still got nervous before every show, no matter what. It was the few minutes before she went on stage, when she was completely alone, that was the worst for her. With nobody to distract Evangeline from her own thoughts and insecurities, she would completely mentally give into them before she went on stage. Finally, she calls somebody, putting the phone on speaker so she doesn't get her freshly put on foundation makeup on it. A man's voice answers.
"Gelly, aren't you performing on Starfactory tonight?"
"Yeah, I'm here now...""How much time do you have?" "
"Ten minutes...""What's wrong? You sound nervous."
"I'm always nervous."They both laugh, Evangeline's a bit more strained. There's a pause before either of them say anything.
"Evangeline," the voice on the phone starts. "You have nothing to be worried about. You are a talented, intelligent, charming woman. People have loved you since the moment you graced the stage when you were just a little girl, and people still love you now. You're the biggest star in the sky tonight." There's a pause. "Your mother would be really proud of you, Gelly. You're doing everything she could have ever dreamed you would accomplish. And I'm proud of you, too. I've always been the proudest. I know I don't say it enough, but... I couldn't of asked for a better daughter."
Evangeline's face is beaming. Some tears at the edges of her eyes attempt to ruin her make up, but Evangeline tilts her head back, letting them roll off the side of her face.
"Thank you, dad," she says back softly, almost a whisper.
"I really needed to hear that.""You're going to do great, hunny. Just go out there and show them how amazing you are."
EVANGELINE WOLFE ON STARFACTORY
The stage is completely dark. The crowd is screaming for Evangeline - who is on stage wtih her band, but is completely unseen by all except the people who can see in the dark. After a few moments of just dark silence from the stage, a soft strum of a guitar breaks through the cheering, sending the crowd into hysterical cheering.
It's in our hellos
Evangeline's voice is alone in the darkness, the lights on the stage still not lit.
And the way his smile glows
A single light comes on on stage, directly on Evangeline, who is playing her acoustic guitar now along with her singing. The crowd goes crazy the moment Evangeline comes into view. The people near the front of the stage reach out to touch her. Evangeline is immediately in the zone, feeling the energy from the crowd and sending it right back.
And it's in our goodbyes
And the tear in his eyes
And all in between
When he's looking at me
I know
I know
I know what he doesn't say
The lights slowly come up on the stage, revealing the rest of the stage and all of Evangeline's band, who begin playing along with her. Although the song was originally recorded with indie singer Yasmine, Evangeline makes it her own again, singing both her part and Yasmine's part. The audience doesn't seem to mind.
And it shimmers through
In the things that he can do
When he writes me a note
And he sends it by post
And what he might not sign
On that bottom line
I know
I know
I know what he doesn't say
Words are not needed
The more my ears could be mislead
My heart can hear instead of
What goes unsaid
He'll leave me with this
A hug and a kiss
Those three words he can't say
But he'll never be blue
Because I always knew
And I know
I know
I know and I love him, too
The crowd cheers and screams for her as the song ends. She looks out over the crowd and smiles, unsure as to why she ever felt nervous in the first place. She had been singing and on stage for so long - long enough to know that this was where she was supposed to be - that getting nervous just seemed silly to her now. She waves to the crowd, causing another roar of cheers to vibrate throughout the audience.
"Thank you so much," she says as she gets ready for her next song.
"This song is for my mother."The crowd surges with energy, as they all know exactly what song Evangeline is talking about. It had always been more like a rumor that the song Five More Minutes was about Evangeline's mother, so to hear her confirm that it is was very exciting for the audience. Evangeline, who has a thing for starting songs with just her voice at first and then adding in the rest of the band, starts off the mellow song with a small smile on her face.
I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please
The sun hasn't set
It's painting the west
Picture pretty
Hints of lilac light
But not a star in sight
Last call for kick-the-can
Please, just once again
Before I come inside
Don't want to go to bed
Don't want to close my eyes
Don't want to rest my head
And end this summer night
Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night
Fireflies glow for us
The cricket's orchestra
The night is awake
Please, don't make me
Go to sleep
I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please
I'm not tired in the least
Five more minutes, please
Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night
Don't want to go to bed
And end this summer night
The song comes to an end, Evangeline's smile now a bright, full-teeth beam. Her Starfactory performance had been with no pomp or flair - and with minimal lighting stunts - but it had been a success because of that.
"Thank you so much, everybody!" she says, her arms raises in the air.
"Starfactory! Good night!" The lights go off on the stage again and Evangeline and her band exit in the darkness as the crowd screams for them behind them.
The spot light comes on the side of the stage as Zac Miller comes to the stage clapping. "Ladies and gentleman, give Miss Wolfe another round of applause." he waited as they clapped for her again. "Their has been a lot of people to come through this show, we seen a lot of amazing talent. Mind blowing performances. Even had heartfelt moments that got to you vote crazy and in the end we crown the best of the best. We went across the country to look for this talent and what better way to get them up to the level of greatness by having them take inspiration by none other then miss wolfe herself. Get ready America the factory is back and the Evangeline Wofle Challenge is going to set the bar higher then ever before." he said as the camera panned out and the crowd went crazy.
