"No, I completely understand. I get lost around here as well. I got so used to the grid system streets in New York that when I try to get around Los Angeles, I end up going to completely opposite way," Alec says back with a smile as he pushes Olivia's chair in and then goes to sit down in his own. "Oh, this old thing?" he jokes, looking down at his shirt. "You look fantastic. I would have dressed up more if I had known I was competing with that red dress." He takes a sip of the water on the table and sighs. "So you're a model with Honor then?"

"Well, you've definitely impressed me, so I suppose you did what you set out to do," Alec says back with a small laugh. He falters a bit when Olivia asks if he knows Honor. He had assumed that Honor had explained the situation to Olivia, but realizes now that obviously that hadn't happened. "Honor? Yeah, I've known her for... about a year and a half. Very sweet girl." He takes another sip of water, this time to make himself stop talking. "Do you want some wine?"

"Oh, I think she gave us both the same story then. I heard that you were sweet, gorgeous, and a model. And what kind of man would I be if I turned down a date from a sweet, gorgeous model?" Alec says back, laughing. He waves a waiter over and orders one of the older wines off of the list. "Don't be nervous. If the date goes well, then we'll have a good time; and if it doesn't go well, we'll both have something to hang over Honor's head for a while. Either way, I think we gain something from this." He jokes, adding a little wink.

Alec laughs as well, nodding his head. "True, true. And I've been known to be pretty foolish at times, so I suppose agreeing to this blind date is a step in the right direction," he says back, relaxing as well. "I can't imagine how a girl like you isn't finding dates left and right. You either must be very busy or very picky." He jokes as the waiter comes over with the wine. The waiter opens the bottle and pours a little into Alec's cup, waiting for Alec to take a sip of it. Alec does, confirms it as a good pick, and the waiter fills both of their wine glasses before retreating again. "I'm a professor now at UCLA - Ethnomusicology, with a focus on jazz and jazz performance. That's where a lot of my attention has been lately. But it's not a career. It's not what I want to be doing for the next twenty years. What I do want to be doing? I have no idea." He laughs a little, taking a sip of wine. "But this is a start. So what about you? I know you're a model, but what else are you into?"

"I'm only sweet when I want to be," Alec says back with a grin, raising his glass to her. "I can understand not being one to settle, though. It's a trap that people fall into far too many times - myself included." He looks down at the napkin in front of him, finding himself absent-mindedly messing with it when she asks him why he's single. He felt good about Olivia, and barring any horrible personality traits that have yet to be revealed, he felt like there was a pretty strong chance of him asking her on a second date. He didn't want to start this relationship off with half-truths. "I went through a pretty messy break-up a few months ago," he tells her honestly. He decided to do Honor a favor and not mention her name, since he knew that Olivia and her saw each other occasionally. "She cheated, and then left me for him. We're still friends, but it was pretty difficult to get over. I suppose that's why I'm still single." He looks back up at her, trying to gauge how she would take that information. "Yes, a professor... I suppose you could say that I'm a jazz guy. I like the American Jazz Age - the Roaring Twenties. When men were witty and eloquent, and women were smart and brash. I'm sure that was a great time." He smiles a little bit more before taking another sip of wine. "What kind of charities do you work for? Ones focusing more on animals, like PETA?"

"Well, thank you," Alec says back when she says that she respects his maturity for staying friends with his ex. "It was a special case. I know all cheaters say that they 'didn't mean for it to happen,' but I think she really meant it when she said it." And then he tells his first lie of the night: "I'm over her and the whole situation now, but you know, it's a difficult thing to put yourself through." He looks through the menu, not even consciously aware of the lie that he's just told Olivia about his romantic state of mind right now. "Magical and chaotic - that's the perfect way to describe the twenties. So you like a bit of jazz then? Do you know who you listened to? People who say that you're a 'bit of a fan' of jazz are my favorites. They have no idea what kind of conversation they just got themselves into with me." He jokes, but there's a bit of seriousness to his voice. He did have a passion for the genre, and if given the chance, he would love to show Olivia a bit more about it. He mentally decides that if this goes well, their next date will be to a jazz club. "So are you a vegetarian or vegan, or anything like that?" He asks, finding a pasta that he enjoys on the menu and then putting it down. "You sound like a very giving person. I know a lot of people who wouldn't even think about spending their time selflessly helping like that. Do you have to go overseas a lot for Children International, or is it mostly focused in America?"

"Yeah, she is special. I guess you could say I love hard. I love hard when I find somebody worth loving that much. I'm trying to be more like you, though - not settling. That's the hardest part." Alec smiles. He didn't expect to get into this deep of a conversation on a first date, but it meant a lot to him that his girl was capable of holding such a deep conversation without feeling awkward or out-of-place. "Well, there you go - adding a whole new meaning to the phrase jazzercise." Alec jokes when Olivia says that she jogs and does yoga to jazz music occasionally. When she says that she's been a vegan for six years, he mentally does the math. She was definitely in her twenties, probably around Honor's age - although he would never ask, he wasn't that rude. "Six years, huh? How did that start? Did you just wake up one day and decide that you wanted to be vegan, or did something happen that made you want to be one?" He looks back over the menu, wondering if he should find something else to eat. What he had chosen had meat in it, and he didn't want to offend Olivia - at least not this early on in the date. "So where all have you been? I bet you've seen some pretty interesting sights."

Alec nods as Olivia talks about what she's come to understand about dating, realizing that he's basically in the same boat as her. "I like to think of myself as a pretty open-minded person. I like intelligent women, you know, women who can think for themselves. I like girls that would have been called 'one helluva broad' if we were still in the Twenties." He chuckles at himself. "That's surprisingly hard to find now. I don't want to be one of those counter-culture 'celebrities and technology is ruined human interaction' people, but sometimes it is difficult to find women with their own thoughts and ideas." He wanted to add, 'like you seem to do,' but he figured that they would make it seem like he was coming on pretty strong. The waiter comes over and he orders his food, and waits for Olivia to order her own before the waiter departs again. "So what's the most interesting place you've been to?"

"Stubborn has always been one of my favorite traits in a woman," Alec says back with a chuckle, raising his glass to her. "Guatemala, eh? I can't say that I've ever been there. I have a friend that went to Tansania and built an orphanage down there. Have you ever been there? It looked gorgeous in the pictures she sent me." He takes a sip of his wine and does a motion with his hand to say 'a little' when she asks if he travels. "I used to a lot when I was younger, but it's harder when you have a job that keeps you pretty tied to one city. Do you travel a lot for modeling, too? I know Honor does."

"Not that I would ever recommend somebody go to a poverty stricken country, but if I did, it would be Tanzania," Alec says with a small laugh, a bit of his asshole side coming out for the first real time throughout this dinner. For a second, he feels like he should amend what he said, telling her that he thinks it's great that she goes to these third world countries, expecting nothing in return, and that he wishes more people were like her... but in the end, he decides not to, figuring that she should start to see the more asshole-y side of him now rather than later. "Hmm? No, I've never been to a photoshoot. But I did catch an episode of Project Runway where they had to do a photoshoot with a spider on them? It doesn't seem as glamorous as I've been originally lead to believe." He chuckles a little bit. "So what kind of modeling do you normally do? I know Honor does a lot of alternative modeling, with the tattoos and everything, but you and Honor definitely don't have the same look."
