Setlist Control What Comes Next Right after Isabel is announced to take the stage, the camera pans over to her, standing in darkness as the crowd cheers in anticipation. Her performance was just the first step into her new era of maturity and her becoming a woman. It wasn't too racy but it was just enough to put her in a different breed of performers who knew how to get the crowd's attention and keep it. There were a lot of things to be said about the singer but you could never doubt she would put on a great show. She was headlining; the last performance people would see before the show went off so of course she had to bring something fresh and new to the table. She also needed to be entertaining and charismatic which were two things that came to her naturally. She stands there, her hip out a little and her arm resting on her leg as she holds the microphone up to her lips. Before a word can even escape her lips, the crowd gets louder, almost feeling whatever she's about to do will be epic. She smiles, but since it's dark no one can see her. She holds the microphone to her lips again and then with a clear voice, sings the first few lines to 'Control' without any beat or instrument to assist her, just her vocals alone. But before she does this, she takes a minute to appreciate the huge crowd around her by talking to them, something she had often started doing during her performances. "NYC.....how are you feeling out there tonight? I feel good....and I want you to feel good too."
"I never felt this way before, finally see all the things ignored I don't feel so shy tonight, infinitely running through time
Arise, my heart, I'm standing in the dark But I feel all eyes are on me to start You never know, to go, unless you push yourself Far above your expected reach
Make me only yours to hold A vision in the air Don't you ever let me go I'll never know happiness"
Whens she pauses, the crowd gets louder, waiting to see what she would do next. Then, without any warning, the intro beat for 'Control' with Cedric Gervais starts to be heard and the lights turn on. Although he does not sing the song, he was in the back, DJing for her as his record played, the thriving synths starting to take over and almost overwhelm her vocals. Izzy stands there wearing a short dress, cut into a V shape in the front with gold embroidery and designs, the bottom gold fringes which move each time she does and some beautiful black and gold boots. Her curly hair has extra volume to it, reminiscent to her Chaos Awards performance except it was all down. She starts walking towards the end of the stage, to the audience where the fans and her peers were watching, as she sings the chorus to the song, jumping instantly to it as the synths and dance track blares over the arena. The red lights swirling over the stage give her a very beautiful shadow as her and her dancers do some choreography, nothing complicated, but they keep it cute as Izzy is obviously enjoying herself on stage. There are 2 dancers on both of her sides, a total of four women, who are dressed in similar costumes with long sleeved shirts. Essentially, they follow her every movement, until they break off and do their own thing, leaving Izzy in the 'circle' by herself.
"We grow apart just so we can grow together Your words are hard but you're lighter than a feather We grow apart just so we can grow together I lose all of control, oh, oh
I-I'm losing all control, all control, oh, oh I'm losing all control, all control, oh, oh I'm losing all control, all control, oh, oh I'm losing all control I-I'm losing all control, all control, oh, oh I'm losing all control, all control, oh, oh I'm losing all control, I'm losing all control I'm losing all control, oh, oh"
The beat then stops and so does her singing, as she kneels on one leg and stares out at the crowd. She gives a little half smirk before speaking into the microphone. "Fan Choice Awards....let's turn things up a notch." She winks and then hands the microphone off to a back up dancer and then turns her headset on and the tiny beige microphone is near her lips, this way she could dance more and have freedom with her hands. As she stands and makes her way to the center of the stage, there are 'snaps' being heard over the PA system and heels on the ground as well, for added effect. She turns, staring at two red ropes hanging from the ceiling. She stands beside them, in between, and then the thumping drum pattern makes itself known as the crowd is getting more excited as they figure out what song she's performing next. She grabs on to both of the ropes, giving a seductive grin as she starts to sing the first verse of the song. They are wrapped around her hands, making sure not to let them go. She wanted to try something different and fun but add a nice amount of sexiness to it. She moves her head in a rotating circle, her hair falling over her face as she picks it back up. Her dancers had left the stage, leaving just her as the center of attention and even creating the spotlight to focus on her directly.
"Sometimes something so wrong, can feel so good And I know that I shouldn't do this but then I should There are no boundaries, I'm letting it go this time I won't be fulfilled, without your touch I'm not satisfied Then something takes a hold of me, I'm just a prisoner And it won't let me go, Keep me by your si-i-de Something takes a hold of me, I'll be your prisoner But promise not to let me go, and let me insi-i-de
I'm warning you, you better hold on tight You're coming with me for a perfect high Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da) You look at me and it's hard to see If I'm serious or just insane Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da)
(You, won't)"
As she keeps singing, the back up singers can be heard assisting her as she's playing around with the ropes, turning and twisting them in her hands as she dips backwards so she's upside down. The simple choreography was enough to toy and tease with the audience, and enough to be sexy without overdoing it. There's a momentary pause in her vocals, as she lets the singers behind her take over because after all, she was only human and hearing her voice as she came back up would have not been a pretty listen. She smiles before getting back up, a spotlight on her the entire time. It was something you'd see at a Vegas show or maybe a Burlesque show but she wanted to bring an extra quality of sexiness to her performance. Once she's done, spinning and using the ropes as props, she releases them and struts to the other side of the stage with her dancers. She starts to do some more choreography, this one sexier than her first. She's doing all the moves, flipping her hair, even showing a little bit of her "assets" which really excites the crowd. She owns the stage as she always does, making it her own personal mini concert every time she steps onto it. Soon enough, her dancers rejoin her as now there are men as well as women, each who have a 'partner' to dance with and so does Izzy. When he comes out, he admires her figure and then walks closer to her, Izzy playing as if she were hard to get, and then she finally turns to him and holds out her hand, he takes it, and the two of them get close but she backs away before anything more happens.
The second verse, she really turns things up. She does a little break down routine which ends up with her having on knee on the floor before she slowly makes her way back up, her behind poking out a bit. Her dancers behind her do the same and then she gets all the way up, swinging her hips seductively as she also plays the part in her singing performance. She sounds as if she's trying to seduce and take all the men in the room at the moment and it was probably working on most of them. She runs her hands down her side and then bites her lip a little before walking to the other side of the stage. Then comes one of the best parts of the track, her speaking part. She plays it very well as she shouts to the stage, "New York! Let me hear you!" They roar as she's again showing off her very noticeable behind now while speaking softly and slowly into her microphone as the synths and drums play behind her. She runs her hands through her hair, puffing it up, and then struts again to the edge of the stage, where her dancers finish off the routine. She initially does the same routine that she will have on her tour, a little bit taken out for the element of creativity and surprise but for the most part it was similar.
"What you do, you do it well But you already know, I don't have to boost your ego My friends all warn me, that I've come too close But I can't help it, you are what I'm looking for Then something takes a hold of me, I'm just a prisoner And it won't let me go, Keep me by your si-i-de Something takes a hold of me, I'll be your prisoner But promise not to let me go, and let me insi-i-de
I'm warning you, you better hold on tight You're coming with me for a perfect high Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da) You look at me and it's hard to see If I'm serious or just insane Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da)"
"Take me to that place, take me in you arms Hold on tight, make me all yours Show me how you do, what I've never seen I swear that I won't bite, I'll show you what I mean"
"I'm warning you, you better hold on tight You're coming with me for a perfect high Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da) You look at me and it's hard to see If I'm serious or just insane Don't you worry about a thing tonight Cause you won't expect What comes next (La-da-da-da)
(You, won't expect it)"
Once the lights start to come back to the beginning, where it was a spotlight on Isabel, she stars dancing again, also singing and seemingly not out of breath. The R&B, electronic beat keeps playing as her and the dancers continue amping up the crowd with their performance. At this time, the lights are lighting up the stage equally now but still not as bright, as to preserve the tone of the song. She even incorporates a few urban dance moves into her performance, making her look just as cool as ever and adding to the fact that she was having fun and it wasn't just a boring routine she was forced to memorize. Izzy had been performing for a while and was a choreographer so things like this did not bother her. If anything, it made her a strong performer. She kept dancing, a very sassy routine which showed off her attitude for her new album era, as she also gave some tasteful sexiness to it. She shakes her hips for a second, similar to some of the dance moves like Shakira or Selena would do whenever they would perform. Once the lights get dimmer and she finishes the chorus, she turns and stops, placing her hands and turned halfway to the crowd as if she were posing for pictures. The last words that come from her mouth are the familiar soft and soprano vocals of 'You won't expect it' and then the music stops as well as she does. She's panting, catching her breath from the performance.
"Thank you. Thank you so much." She blows kisses to the crowd as she makes her way backstage. |
