Title: A Journey Through The Innermost Artist: Aeons Release Date: 30th January 2015 Producer: Bill Owens Genre: Progressive Metal Length: 58 minutes aprox. Label: Songs To Love And Die By Formats: CD, Digital Download, Vynil A Journey Through The Innermost is the highly-anticipated debut album from American-British progressive metal band, Aeons. The quarted made their breakthrough on the scene just some moths ago, on October, with the release of their hit-single Dreaming In Clouds which had an impressive commercial reception. The band went on to release another single independently, Let Me Fly which met a more moderate reception. Then, Aeons decided to sign a record deal with american indie studio, Songs to love and die by and released two more singles taken from their debut album: Until The End featuring Penetralia's Koda Espinosa and their most-successful single, By Your Side featuring Lily Abbot. The album was recorded between April and June 2014 on the Rever Music Studios and the post-recording work started on July 2014. It was produced by the band's leader, Bill Owens and was completely 'created' by the band members, except for the apparitions of Koda Espinosa (Penetralia) and Lily Abbot as guest singers. "The Journey" will begin this 23rd January, all songs will be availalbe for streaming since that date and the album will be officialy released through Songs To Love And Die By on 30th January 2014. The release will be availalble in four different formats: Digital download, CD, standard black vynil and limited edition picture vynil. About the music and lyrics, Bill Owens commented: "It's a journey through different sounds and atmospheres. It's a real journey through our innermost, I think this is a very personal album, it shows our feelings and emotions. The lyrics are abstract sometimes, but they're not senseless, they're all very deep and sensitive. Musically you'll mainly face a progressive metal effort, but we put a lot of different elements in each song... Symphonic, orchestral, heavy, melodic, dark and bright, I can't define this album in one word. I'm extremely proud of it, it's like a part of me. Three of us particpates as lead vocalists and we have also two great guests, so it has an unique blend of styles and voices." This track is a classic progressive metal song. It features a lot of rythm-changes and different voices, provided by three members of the band, creating a very mixed blench of styles. "I wrote this tune several months ago, it was composed to be part of a second album by Anima, but as that never came true, I decided to put it on Aeons. It's a very progressive song, very influenced by huge acts like Mind, this is one of the catchiest songs on our upcoming album, one of the best chorous we could get! It's lyrics are very clear: they are about a man (or woman, why not?) that's searching for something, that something is really hard to describe, it's something inside of yourself...But this person is searching in the wrong places." Lyrics: Arise like the Phoenix from the ashes, and fly away pass the stars, to find the path to the times, when everything was still fine. And now when you are still not certain, what you are looking for, the answers seem to be in a dream, you see every night. It has a lot of twin-guitars solos and fast drum and bass 'parades'. "This is a song that I wrote alongside Jordan, it's one of the first tunes we have written after forming the band...It's very different from the other tracks, a more fast and direct straight-forward heavy metal song, totally influenced by 80's british and german heavy metal. This is one of the band's most emotional and low tracks from the album. It has a lot of progressive elements and it's described as a power-ballad by the band members. It's one of the few songs without growl or screamed vocals, this tune features completely clean voices with the special contribution by Lily Abbot. "I'm completely excited with this song, we have the greatest, the queen of rock, Lily Abbot, singing with us on this song...It's just incredible guys! She has one of the best and deepest songs I've ever heard so when I wrote this song I always thought we had to have her singing. This is a really emotional and deep song, it's not so heavy or fast, but I really love it. BYS has a lot of melodies, an incredible lead-guitar work and totally clean vocals. The lyrics are really deep and romantic I think, I obviously wrote them thinking in the love of my life...They're very personal and sweet, I really like them. It's one of the most-melodic and 'happy' tracks on the album, with a lot of symphonic elements and the predominance of the keyboards and pianos, and clean vocals. It's the second song on the album without growl vocals and it's lead by high-tone leading vocals by Bill Owens. "Well, this is one of the most happy and optimistic songs on the album. It's very influenced by hard rock and melodic metal, you can notice that the keyboards have the leading role on it. It's also one of our catchiest songs, it was one of the first options for our debut single but at the end we decided to release a heavier song. We worked a lot on the chorous, we wanted to make it memorable. It's one of the few easy-listening songs we have recorded, but I think it's really good. When I wrote the lyrics, I was thinking in my friends...I want to give a message, a good one: you have to walk your own way, you will be defeated but you have to keep fighting for your desires and dreams! One of the darkest and deepest efforts you can find in the journey. This song features a very dirty guitar sound on the main riff but also have a very melodic interlude. Screamed and spoken vocals returns for this effort. It's one of the few songs with only one lead vocalist, Bill Owens doesn't share the vocal duties on it. "Hell yeah, a very dark and low song. I wrote it after a dream I had: we were on the Rever studios rehearsing before recording 'Dreaming In Clouds' and I have a really incredible dream, then I woke up and start writing, Jordan was here and together we finished the song. We wrote it in just some minutes and I think it turned out really well, they're very deep, emotional and romantic, I think, we love that type of lyrics! Musically it has a lot of stoner rock and doom metal influences, I love bands like Black Sabbath so I wanted to make something with dirty guitar riffs...but it also has one of the most-melodic interludes on the album, we achieved a great contrast there." It's a mixing of doom metal's low and dirty guitar riffs, extreme metal blast-beats and metalcore growl and screamed vocals. This song has less orchestral and symphonic elements and is one of the darkest and heaviest tunes on the album. It features the special contribution of Koda Espinosa as a guest vocalist. "I'm very happy to have Koda Espinosa as a lead vocalist on this song, he has a really incredible and personal voice so it's a great element for this track, I consider him a good friend and it was incredible to work with Penetralia, I think our voices made a cool mixing. We have no pianos or orchestral samples on this song, more straightforward dirty-based-riffs heavy metal! We put a lot of doom metal and stoner rock elements on the guitar sound and there're also some blast-beats and growl vocals. The lyrics are really positive and optimistic, very similar to 'Walk Your Way', it's like a sequel of that song, as I previously commented on that, I wanted to send a good message to our fans: you have to fight for what you want, never surrender, no step backwards! You've to fight if you want to achieve your objectives, your dreams. There's no victory without effort and sacrifice!" This progressive metal symphony is an epic journey among different sounds and genres. With very complex guitar riffs and drum blast beats, this tune is the most progressive-influenced of the album and features a lot of symphonic, orchestral and neo-classical interludes. The over-8-minutes "journey" goes from clean and melodic to growl and screamed voices, from calm symphonic interludes to extremely heavy death metal blast beats. This song has a very dark atmosphere, because of the low-tone keyboards and deep voices of Bill Owens and Jordan Levin in some parts. "Hell yeah, let's begin this journey!...Well, probably this is the best song I've written in my life. It's a heavy, dark, epic and melodic poem which has elements from very different genres. You can notice symphonic keyboards, orchestral samples, extreme metal blast beats, cleand and growl voices...It's like a real journey through music. I have been composing this song for a long time and now that's streaming, I'm really happy with it. It's a really ambitious and complex tune, I think it defines the sound of Aeons. This is Aeons: epic progressive metal. The lyrics are extensive but not so complicated, the protagonist is on a journey to find himself...This is a really deep song, you'll feel you're into this journey, trust me! Listen to this song with headphones, with your eyes closed and in completely darkness...you'll be inside this story." Lyrics: I am in this journey, but it's the last one... I must find my truth lying deep in the unknown... I move through many worlds with steps that devour the distances, to find myself. History holds my last rites and regards. Without regret, I go to the inner rings that hold the cards, dimensions of the errant souls, they show us their destiny. While the wind trembles to remove the damned souls that I take inside. I discovered a dreamed universe, in brilliant manifestations of light images, and perfect romanticism. I must continue my epic travel, and find myself. Mike have written this lyrics a long time ago, they were thought for another project but he showed them to the other members of Aeons and they really liked them. Then, Bill and Mike start composing the music for this futuristic-based progressive metal song and became one of the most elaborated tracks on the album. With tons of samples, synths and keyboards, the band members achieved a very futuristic and sci-fi atmosphere for the song. "Well this is one of the strangest songs on the record, a very sci-fi adventure through an unknown place called Zlord. Mike wrote the lyrics and I really liked them, I'm a fan of sci-fi movies so I wanted this song on the album...We tried to make a futuristic sound for this tune, with a lot of keyboards and guitar and bass synths, and spectral and robotic voices. It's also a very heavy song, we put very heavy riffs on it, it remembers to Thrash metal sound mixed with futuristic keyboards. I think it ended being a cool mixing, a strange but really good song...I consider it like a prequel of 'Beyond Space And Time' which has the same 'sci-fi feeling' on it." An 'epic space opera', as its described by band members, this 7-minute-long tune rises as one of the most heavy and dark efforts on the record, with leading growl vocals and very distorted and deep guitar sound. The song has a strong sci-fi atmosphere with a lot of space-sounds samples and spectral voices. "Hell yeaaaaah! We've reached the end of the journey! Our grand finale is here, another ambitious and complex composition, very dark and heavy, with a lot of extreme and doom metal influences. The vocal work for this tune was really difficult, we used a lot of growl and very deep vocals but high-tone clean vocals too, it was a nightmare to record it...You can hear a lot of rythm-changes and dissonant melodies. Austin used a lot of blast-beats but also some slow and jazz-influenced beats, this is a completely progressive rock opera, with growl voices! The lyrics are a bit abstract, they're about space but I can't explain more...It's about someone or something that's travelling through space, there's no other explanation, I like that, being abstract!" Seriously boys, this is a truly refreshing record to hear. There's not a weak track on the album and more than that, it's completely unique in the sense that you don't sound like anything else out there, which doesn't happen very much these days. Where to begin, I think this record is tens across the board, from all aspects and it's a great way to start the year. "Walk Your Way" may very well become an all time favourite song of mine as well as the collaboration with Lily, it's only January but I think we may have found the album of 2015. Now I'm just awaiting tour dates, I gotta see these songs performed live! Bring it on home, boys!
