BILLY'S FIRST SOLO TOUR KICKS OFF *ALMOST* WITHOUT HITCHTHE STAR HALTS SHOW TO EJECT A PHONE-FLINGING ASSAILANTThe anticipation was palpable as fans thronged the SSE Arena Belfast for the opening night of Billy Khan's first solo tour, "BILAL: Live on Tour." Known for his "bad boy" persona and a string of chart-topping hits, the 31-year-old pop sensation did not disappoint. From the moment he took the stage, it was clear that Billy was ready to prove himself as a solo artist, stepping out of the shadow of his globally iconic boy band, Weekend. The energy in the arena was electric as Billy launched into his set, delivering hit after hit with charisma and a voice that was in top form. The concert was a carefully curated blend of high-energy performances and intimate moments, showcasing Billy's versatility and depth as an artist. He performed his biggest singles, including "Attention," "The Entertainer," and "Gemini," each song met with deafening cheers from the audience. However, it was during a particularly stripped-down part of the show, as Billy began to sing his latest #1 hit "Model Citizen," that the evening took an unexpected turn. In the midst of this poignant performance, a phone was hurled onto the stage, narrowly missing Billy. The arena fell silent as he abruptly paused, clearly taken aback. In true Billy fashion, he handled the situation with a mix of sternness and comedy. A tense but brief debate ensued between Khan and the guilty party. "We're here to enjoy music, not to dodge shit. Get the fuck out, mate." he admonished at the end, his voice echoing through the stunned crowd. He then directed security to remove the offending party, reinforcing that such behaviour would not be tolerated. The crowd's support was immediate and overwhelming, with applause and cheers as the individual was escorted out. Watch the video below: Quote:Billy: "Stop the music. Stop the music, yeah?! Cut it. Cut it. Cut it."
Billy's backing band cease playing "Model Citizen" and after a flurry of excitement and confusion, the crowd finally settle down.
Billy: "Who threw the phone? Who threw the phone? It was someone over in this section."
Billy inches closer to the people in the section on his righthand side, pointing into the audience.
Billy: "I'm not starting the show again until someone owns up. I've got all night. Won't sing another single fucking note, believe me. There's not escaping it. You done it so now's the time to face the consequences and the longer you keep this going, yeah, there more difficult it's gonna be for you because there's an arena here with over 11,000 people now wanting to kick your teeth in. So who was it?"
The arena cheers in support of Billy and his statement, his zealous fans eager for the show to resume and oust the offender. A cluster of waving hands and phone lights begin to surround a person in the section Billy is addressing.
Billy: "Was it you, mate, yeah? How old are you? I'm asking a serious question here, how old are you?"
The man, clearly inebriated, replies to Billy. The star is now crouched at the edge of the stage with his earpiece out as he engages with the people down on the floor.
Billy: "You're 23? That's a rough 23, mate. You're a grown man chucking things on stage. What's your end game here, bruv? What did you think was going to happen? Nothing good. I don't know what your deal is, Aiden. Don't know if that's your name but you look like an Aiden. I don't know if you thought it'd be funny. I don't know if you've seen this trend on TikTok with other artists getting shit thrown at them. You must be new here because one thing you should know is you should NOT try this shit with me. So, what's your deal, mate?"
Billy's listens for a response only to be met with more unintelligible slurring from the gentleman. Khan shakes his head and beckons security over.
Billy: "Nah, you're fucking out of here. This is meant to be a safe space. You could've hurt me or my band, yeah? You're making everyone around you uncomfortable. You're causing upset at a show people paid good money and took time out of their busy lives for. I've got someone in the audience repping a flag from fucking Uruguay. You're not ruining it for them, for me, for anyone else. You've pissed me off, made a dickhead of yourself, and now lost your phone. We're here to enjoy music, not to dodge shit. Get the fuck out, mate.
The crowd erupts in cheers and applause as security enter the area and escort the man from the premises. Billy mockingly waves him off as he's taken away.
Despite this incident, Billy quickly regained his composure and resumed his performance, seamlessly bringing the audience back into the magic of the evening. His ability to handle the disruption with grace and authority only added to his allure. Throughout the night, Billy engaged with the audience, his humor and charm shining through. Whether cracking jokes or sharing heartfelt stories, he made every person in the arena feel like they were part of something special. The support for Billy was evident not just from the fans, but also from notable figures in attendance. His younger brother, Deneil, a successful rapper who served as the opening act, set the stage with an energetic performance. Pop newcomer Cameron Jacobson also delivered a stellar opening set, being dubbed by Khan himself as "one to watch". Among the crowd, Billy's Weekend bandmate and best friend, Dustyn Blue-Conners, along with pop star Mercedes Payne, were spotted cheering him on. Their presence highlighted the close-knit circle of support around Billy as he embarked on this new chapter. As the final notes of the evening echoed through the SSE Arena, it was clear that Billy had made a powerful statement. Despite the brief interruption, the show was a resounding success. Long-term fans and newcomers alike were left impressed by his vocal prowess, stage presence, and the emotional connection he fostered with the audience. Khan's first solo tour not only lived up to the hype but set a new standard for what it means to be a true entertainer. The opening night of "BILAL: Live on Tour" was a testament to Billy's talent and resilience, promising even greater things to come. Khan's sold out tour resumes on Tuesday 9th July, where he will be performing to a packed audience in Dublin's 3Arena. Edited by user 08 July 2024 03:45:49(UTC)
