There's a thread about Metal, loads about Pop, so this one is to discuss the awesomeness of my favorite ever genre and sub-genres (Hardcore, Riot Grrrl, Crustcore, Anacho-punk, anything but Pop Punk).
What are your favorite punk bands? What amuses you the most about the genre? Is punk dead?

I really can't choose a favorite band, but there are loads that are pretty up there, like Refused, Propagandhi, Bikini Kill, Sex Pistols of course, Minor Threat, Black Flag, etc. I could spend the whole day talking about it :P
What amuses me about it is that you don't need to have a good voice, or be an expert on playing an instrument to get your message across. I'm sure there are plenty of punk bands with great musicians, but it's not a requisite, if you get me.
And to answer my last question, yes, I think punk is dead.

I swear that if I see Green Day on this thread, I'll lose the faith in humanity.
I own:

Andrew Guinnard (Post-punk/acoustic)
Lucy Tankeray (Pop diva/weird)

yeah, it's pretty sad. Punk is dead. BUT! you must keep in mind that there are many new artists who are influences by punk. Unfortunately, more of them are influenced by pop, and those who aren't influenced by pop are influenced by metal, but punk is still up there.

I believe it's better for a genre to die than having fuckers to distort it on some sort of ideology of picking fights with skinheads and getting drunk/high the most you can.

DISCHARGE is the best punk band to ever grace this earth. The old singles, the "Why" EP, and the "Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing" LP completely fucking destroy. Old DISCHARGE is the musical equivalent of getting hit in the face with a hammer, and the sheer brutality of the old recordings would only be matched some ten years later by Canadian black metallers BLASPHEMY.

Dead Kennedys are probably one of the best bands to ever exist on Earth.

Ramones, Crass, Discharge, Misfits, AFI, Bad Brains, Anti-Flag, Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Offspring, Rancid, those are the first ones to come to my mind, if I name them all either my fingers wont work for days or my keyboard will break.

The old Green Day was cool, but they're fags who sold out now. And I freaking love the punk influence in Rage Against The Machine songs.

Holy shit punk is dead! There barely is a 2nd page on this thread... But I think it's better off dead, that way no one exploits it or makes it lame and gay like pop-punk and shit like that.

PUNK IS DEAD!!! BUT IT'S MUSIC LIVES!!!
