Seems like if one day AC/DC will be gone, then I'd rather let them die and let people just listen to their old music than be forced to endure a bunch of bands shamelessly aping them. Let them die and let somebody else come up with something new, that's what I say.

Even if I like a band, like say, Pink Floyd, I don't want somebody else to come along and be Pink Floyd 2. Indeed, if they did I'd probably hate them. Why would I want to listen to people trying to be Pink Floyd now, instead of just listening to Pink Floyd then? Why would I want to hear a new band trying to sound like 70s Pink Floyd when I can listen to The Mars Volta? I say enough of this endless recycling of rock trends, if you're going to make music, at least make something all your own, and don't be Airbourne or Wolfmother.

YEah, we'll want bands to take the torch and make new music. PROGRESSION! And not in a "prog rock" sense but merely the idea that music needs to move on and evolve. When AC/DC finally call it a day we'll still have their entire back catalogue to listen to, and plenty of live DVDs to watch. Airbourne serve no purpose except cynically copying other bands. How dull.

No, I'd rather bands try something new and suck at it rather than copy someone else adequately because progression keeps music interesting. What I want from music is, in no particular order, originality, passion, emotion, and maybe a modicum of intelligence however you would quantify that, I'm not sure. Not carbon-copies of stuff I've already heard.

I agree with Paul's recommendation of Old Man Gloom incidentally. I need more OMG, they are a fascinating band and quite unique.

What would I recommend? Mmmm. This is hard. I could say Burzum, but the only people likely to actually listen are the other metal fans who should already know and love them.

Fuck it. Staying black metal here.

In the past 6 months I've listened to The Beatles the most, and then Faith No More. But you should know these bands already. So I'm recommending my #3 band, the Swedish group Lifelover. They are from Stockholm and are responsible for some quite haunting music (not nearly as terrifying as Silencer however), mixing traditional black metal sounds with more "rock" elements, ending up with a rather unique blend, that many would argue is not black metal at all. But to me black metal is as much an aesthetic as it is anything else. Anyway, this is pure agony. The name is ironic in case you had a humour by-pass, in the same vein as another depressive band, Happy Days. Really, the music is quite simple, but it is stirring. It causes me to feel. This is what I ask from music.

But its not exactly the same, their are differences, and I like the songs for what they are, I am not talking about the same sound, but the classic hard rock sound in general. Old rock is dying, or at least aging, and we need some new guns in there.

If you mean more independent, then yes. And I thought a good deal of those were pretty unheard of, well at least in the US.

Yeah, I think the flaw here is that as many awesome bands as I could recommend, nobody cares, they just want to recommend their own, and likewise I don't care about their recommendations because I can tell fairly quickly they're totally not in my sphere of interest.

No, the differences are pretty much negiligible. And yeah. CLASSIC. Fuck does that mean again? You cannot write CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC for goodness sake.

Yeah. Iron Maiden. WHO?

Honestly, I'm not even in tune with the indie or emo/punk type scenes and I know everything you listed. What was even the point?

Yeah. It has to be said, people on this board are about as willing to experiment musically as Michael Barrymore is to kill another man.

So, did you check out Prurient or Old Man Gloom?

EDIT: Also, in my world, it goes without saying that everyone knows Mr. Bungle, but you cats probably don't, so eat this impressive original video to Trevor Dunn's post-modern lament (yeah, that's right folks Mike Patton wasn't the only guy in that kick ass band).
