It is not the first pop song to use Lycanthropy, nor howling. Patrick wolf put out an album called Lycanthropy in 2003. Friggin' Howlin' Wolf had a world famous wolf-howl back in the 50s. Either way, who cares? What if I recorded a song and it was the first song to ever use the word "Anthrozoology". So what? What if I recorded a song which had a fart in it, and people thought it was the first fart to ever appear in a song. So what? What if it takes me ten years to record my song. What if I play all the instruments myself. What if I literally carve the name of the song into my chest, and then photograph that and that's the cover of the single? What if, in order to make the song, I literally broke all of the bones in my body one by one just to see what it felt like? So what? Big whoop. My song could still be crap. I wouldn't consider him a Pop artist. Yeah he has a few "pop" songs but they fall into the indie genre and his song "Lycanthropy" is no where near considered a Pop song. I almost couldn't even find it on youtube except for a performance of it. And Of course you are going to say "Big whoop". Because you're trying to make it sound like the song "She Wolf" isn't a big deal. And it is. In top of that, the examples you're using don't even compare to what I'm talking about. You're trying to make it seem like it doesn't take hard work to make a song like "She wolf" and I really don't appreciate that. You seem to not appreciate hard work in the music industry just because it is pop. And musically I don't respect you anymore. I thought you were more open minded about music but you are not. What about Sam Endicott and John Hill, the two people who wrote "She Wolf" with Shakira, and John Hill also served as producer with her. I don't think its fair to ignore those two people, especially considering we don't know how much of the producing or writing they did. For all we know Endicott and Hill wrote and produced 90% of the song. Also I don't get why using "lycanthropy" in a song for the first time is a big deal but using "antrozoology" or any other word is not. For your information Shakira took over production as she said in an interview, she in fact did 80% of the hard work. She wasn't feeling the song so she had to basically take over. And I totally believe that because many producers have called her bossy but they said that's a good thing. Shakira was also extremely involved in the "Loba" song. According to the Shakira the writers helped her out with the chorus. They were confused as to used "Wardrobe" or "closet" and translating the word "Loba" correctly. "Wolf Woman just didn't sound catchy". The chorus only took 10 minutes to write. Shakira began writing her own songs since she was 4 years old. She worked her way up. She wrote without any help whatsoever her first two albums (Which where very underrated and were considered flops). It is no shock to a Shakira fan that Shakira wrote her own song, yet it is a shock to the wrold because she's consiered a Pop artist. There are many thing you don't know about Shakira that I can go on forever about, but either way you guys will still have something to say, so there is no point. Any more assupmtions..... Show me proof that she did 80% of the work for that song. I am not shocked that she wrote her own song because well, she didn't. If she wrote her own song there wouldn't be any other people credited on it. There were two other songwriters credited and one more producer. According to Shakira isn't really great proof either because no self-respecting artist is going to come out and say "Oh yea the songwriters totally did most of the work." She took pictures, you can find them on her twitter. She also has video footage on her album. Like I said you don't know Shakira's life story so you're going to find it hard to believe. I don't care anyway, because I know for a fact she wrote the song "She wolf" with some amount of help from two professional songwriters. Fixed. Yeah.

Yea and that some can be a couple lines or the majority of the song. You can't go around claiming she wrote the song and she is a genius songwriter without revealing she didn't write it all by herself. Same thing with the production stuff, she didn't do it by herself, so don't go around extolling the greatness of her production skills without crediting all the other people producing with her. |

By the way John Hill only composed the song, he didn't actually like write the lyrics, he just put little tweeks on them, but he did not come up with them, Shakira and the other guy did.

Well I would imagine the music, which received a lot of praise, (you yourself said critics loved the instrumental) is important to the song. You made it seem like the whole song was written by Shakira but even the composition wasn't done by her, I think that is part of being a songwriter and not just a lyricist. |

She Wolf "Pop" wise is better than anything she's done, but lyrical wise it isn't. And it doesn't matter if you like the lyrics or not, the fact that she worked her way up and she didn't let people take over her debut album is respectable and shows true talent. Also the fact that the lyrics appeal to many Shakira fans who weren't fans back then is amazing. It gives them an extra reason to like her. Anyway I'm just saying, in my opinion I think is the best song of the year and the best Pop song of the decade. I you don't think so good for you! Its not like my opinion should matter or effect you.

I remember her saying in one of her songs she wrote in 1999. "When you leave, I'll let you borrow my nose and my flesh, so you can smell the feeling I get when I'm alone". Do you get the sexual reference in there? "Who says that? she's a weirdo, but I like her. "Was my response when I first heard it. Edit: By the way I translated that. The song is in Spanish and in Spanish it rhymes. Edited by user 18 December 2009 15:49:02(UTC)

For me there have been a few really good tracks. Enter Shikari - Solidarity This is a live recording from the first date in their 2009 UK tour in Norwich, Was an amazing night out, and it was my 18th birthday! God & Satan From Biffy Clyros album Only Revolitions is awesome. Another favourite of the year would have to be well, the massive amount of dubstep produced, i won[t post a link but i'm sure you can search Caspa, Chase & Status and Rusko :). |

I'm not even attacking the song here, I'm just explaining why almost none of the reasons you're claiming the song so incredible and unique are actually true. Michael Jackson's Thriller, that's groundbreaking in terms of sound, in terms of production, in terms of the music video. It did things no other song had done. She Wolf is just a popular song that you like - it's not groundbreaking. Whether she partially wrote it or not doesn't automatically make it a better song than if she hadn't. If it's your favourite song of the year then that's fine - just don't go round telling everyone it's the best thing to happen in pop music for a decade because of gimmicky reasons like being werewolf themed (in the age of Twilight no-less...) and featuring possibly the least impressive imitation of a wolf I have ever heard. It's alright to like these things about the song, but it's not all right to lie about how unique this makes it and how therefore we should all be extremely respectful to the almighty finest-songsmith-of-our-age, Shakira. |

I love how bands have to put in this sort of effort recording and writing everything and get almost no recognition, but on the odd occasion a 'popstar' gets off their arse and does something they're incredible for it. |

The facts I mentioned about Shakira's song are true. And the song is extremely unique and has had huge impact in Latin America. More than Thriller I would say. Especially the video. In terms of sound and production the song is amazing. Have you heard anything like "She wolf" in the radio for the past 10 years? I can even say 20 years. Um no. Why does that make it a goo song? Will because it has an unique sound that radios's haven;t played since the mid- late 70's. In my opinion songs these day sound very similar these day. Just my opinion. In terms of music video, the creativity is just there. Yeah she honors the King Of Pop in some parts but she does it in a creative way. The song is not even about being a wolf at all. The howling is just a way of showing how animalistic women can be when they let it out. Like she said I can really sound like a wolf if I wanted to but I want to sound like a feminine one. More closer to woman than an actual wolf. Shakira was asked if New Moon (twilight) were to want the song on the soundtrack, what would she say? Shakira then said that as much as she likes Twilight, it doesn't have the same concept and that She wolf is like a movie of its own and by doing so. The song would loose its original concept To me the songs music video would have to be the best music video of the decade as well.

But I've already explained, your facts are either objectively wrong, or entirely subjective. I've heard lots of songs like She Wolf. Lots of Shakira songs. It follows the same trend as most modern electronic pop, with a Latin twist. There's nothing about the arrangement, the vocal performance, the rhythm, the melody, the lyrics that stands out to me except that it's one big werewolf metaphor. As for animalism and the libido, that's just about the oldest metaphor in Grandpa Obvious' Big Book O' Obvious Metaphors for Kids with Brain Damage and/or Learning Difficulties. I honestly don't see how it's at all original to paint sexual desire as a primal urge - that's almost the basis of all monster fiction every made. King Kong, Dracula, Alien... The phrase "like a dog in heat..." Animal print fashion... It's a valid idea, it's just not a new one. |

Shakira writes and produces her own songs, she has videos to prove it and even the producers when asked have called her a good producer. SHE WOLF IS THE FIRST POP SONG TO USE THE WORD LYCANTHROPY and howling. And You obviously don't know her life story.
What, so just because I am not impressed by these not-true-at-all facts about Shakira's not-groundbreaking-in-the-least successful pop song that I don't especially like, suddenly I'm not open minded? I'm gonna let you finish but yo, Beyonce had like the best music video ever. |
