I saw a video of him doing a drum solo a while ago, and it was pretty darn good. I'd never call him one of the greats, but he's not bad at all.

He's a decent drum soloist but a lot is just fast playing and fills, you should see one of Tomas Haake's solos they're actually structured. As a drummer in general he isn't too great. |

However from what I experienced and from what I've heard form other people. When you're in a minor one most of them wont pay you're fees or rent. However what they will do is provide you with the engineers for free. I got dropped and was never even given time int he studio though and that's what kind of threw me off with minor labels.

But you're right though. Prblem is that the metal and pop worlds are quite different, I mean a lot of metal labels are started up either by fans in their own homes, or else by members of bands (like Mike Patton's Ipecac, Lee Dorrian's Rise Above, Aaron Turner's Hydrahead, Stephen O'Malley's Southern Lord, etc), there's not so many people who are in it with the sole interest of making money. Which isn't to say they don't want to make money, but generally they are also in it for artistic reasons, for wanting to help bands they just like and so forth. But then being in a metal band and expecting to make any money is pretty naive really, if not downright insane! |

Very true.I'm probably going to end up taking Music Business as a minor just so that at least I'd be useful at a desk job probably making decent money. |

Which is what i guess you're trying to say, right? That's why if you have a band already then the cost will run lower because you already have the instruments to make the music, you don't need the expensive computer.

No he's saying in the pop world everyone is pretty much a corporate douchebags who wants money because pop=popular and so they're trying to get money, even if they like it.However you don't make much with metal so it doesn't matter and the people are better. |

I highly doubt the veracity of your statement that he couldn't keep time (especially given the nature of the recording that roadrunner united CD) and the bass drum thing is more of a mix issue than a playing issue. As for Slipknot in general, I honestly genuinely enjoy the self-titled, even to this day. It's got a schizophrenic energy that kind of reminds me more of hardcore punk. The thing with that band though is that I was probably 13 when that album came out, and everything I wanted them to do they did on that album, so I couldn't really follow where they went beyond that point. Especially when it got all slick and grammy-winning. |
