OOC: It's been 3 weeks since I last made an RP and I lost my willingness to make one, but now I'm back and badder than evah!! (so please excuse me if this RP is bad..)

Grudge is the 3rd single released off Reckoner's sopho album Backstabber. It talks about Troy's anger issues and the effect they have on him and the people around him. The single features one odd b-side, Phantom, Phantom; and a remix of the title track by bunker18. The music video would be premiered the next day after the single's release which is a first. The music video was directed by Dale Tucker, the man behind the artwork, and was the longest and most difficult video shot by the band, it was done in 2 weeks.

Tracklisting:
1.Grudge(Mascenon/Anderson)

-The song was written by Troy in order to let all his anger out, literally putting all his anger in paper. "It was like going to anger management counselling"said Troy when asked what he felt about writing the song. The song is the most aggressive yet complex song the band has made featuring heavily distorted guitars, screaming adlibs, and 3 guitar solos played and made by JC. "The song has to be the hardest we have written, so many chords, so many solos" said JC. The song begins with Troy playing a clean ascending guitar riff. A few seconds more and the rest of the band come in; the most distinct part though is JC and Carl’s heavy distortion. The verse starts with Troy singing in a gentle yet noticeably angry voice and JC playing in clean guitar, the lines in each verse are separated by JC’s guitar fills. The pre-chorus is consisted of a semi-distorted riff imitating Troy’s vocals played by both JC and Carl. It soon breaks down into the chorus where the intro riff is also played. Troy’s voice goes from gentle to rough as it is accompanied by 3 heavy distorted guitars. The song goes on for another verse and chorus before going into the solo. The solo is still consisted of the 3 guitars but with altering effects. The bridge connecting the chorus to the solo is made up of heavy distortion; it is then followed by a clean guitar riff played by Troy. It is connected back to the chorus by another heavily distorted riff; the chorus riff has minor alterations for the third time it is played though. The song’s outro is made up of a clean guitar riff, and a heavy distorted riff imitating the former followed by seconds of improvised solos and notes. The song ends suddenly like it was cut off.

2.Phantom, Phantom(Anderson)
-A weird, eerie song which showcases the band's experimental abilities."This song may be the shit or shit, it depends on your opinion" says JC who wrote the song. The song started off as an instrumental guitar song but the other instruments and lyrics by Troy were added in the later part of its development, ordered by Regan Futrell. The song starts off with a bluesy riff played by JC and after a few more seconds, the bass drums come in. The bass and rhythm guitar come in after the 1st minute while the hi-hats and snare are added. The lyrics are not clearly understood as Troy sings in a whispering voice. "One word to describe the song, weird" says Troy.

3.Grudge(bunker18 remix)
-The Grudge remix is a dance take on the original guitar rock feel of the song, seems difficult to do but bunker18 has pulled it off perfectly. The song features the guitar riff played by a keyboard, the bass by synthesizers, and the occasional drums replaced by a drum machine. The vocals remain in the same tempo as the original unlike the others which were raised to 20 BPMs higher. When asked about the remix, the band had this to say: "Sounded like Daft Punk met Radiohead".

Produced by: Regan Futrell
Label: V-Records
Artwork: Donna Morales
Released: June 02 2010

Grudge Music Video
Grudge's music video was shot in Hollywood Studios, Hollywood. The band chose music director Jonas Magalona for the shoot since he has the expertise in 3D effects and the like. It was completed in an estimated time of two weeks and was considered the longest and most difficult video shoot for the band according to the members. The music video is set in the year 3041 in the dystopian future of New York City where the band play the role of musicians who free the people from the government's dominant control over them

Synopsis:
No music is played as the video starts off with close ups of Troy Mascenon's face. The camera zooms out and the opening guitar riff is then played by JC, followed later on by the whole band wearing all-black clothes. The band are playing in a small empty room with a closed-circuit camera on the top left wall they are facing. There is no door nor window in the room, only a lightbulb on top of them, their only source of light. It is revealed that top military officials are currently watching them through the surveillance camera and one of the officials walks out of the room while the others continue to watch. He walks through the white hall towards this huge glass window and as he looks outside, the truth is revealed. It's year 3041 and the world is under the dystopian rule of The Man where everything and everyone is the same, in clothing, in action, and in belief. The high official is now seen going back to the room. As he enters, he sees the rest of the officials dancing in a wild manner to the music of the band, the frequencies are too high to high to handle and the Screen bursts open. In the band's POV, the walls of the room fall down and they are seen playing in a platform raised 3 feet only from the ground, the video of their performance was spread all over the World Wide Web by an unknown hacker and the people are now set free from The Man's control and start to rise against the government..

"Glad to hear that Grudge, is the third single. That was one of my favorite songs on the record, bar all the ones above are the ones I was somehow in producing but you know, my music is only hits on adult contemporary radio so of course I'm going to favor the softer songs."

Blackout is the fourth single released by Reckoner from their second studio album Backstabber, this single also marks the end of the so-called Backstabber era of the band and they are off to touring for a few months before going back to work on their next album. The song is said to have been the darkest song ever written by the band. It features the first ever use of orchestral accompaniment by the band, soft melodic arpeggios in the key of B, and vocal tracks sung by all members of the band. The single also contains the B-Side Morning Show, considered by the band as the best B-side they have ever written.

UserPostedImage

Tracklisting:
1.Blackout(Mascenon)

-written in the darkest hour of his life, the song was considered by songwriter Troy himself as the saddest and darkest song he has ever written. "It was written at the time when I critically overdosed on Cocaine a few years back, I was going through depression and I wasted all my money on the drugs, it was the only thing that comforted me during those times, I wasn't thinking. One night I got so hooked on it that I used so much and next thing I remember was seeing the light, I woke up 3 days later in the hospital and everyone close to me was there, it was the worst experience I have ever known and I don't wanna go through it ever again." says Troy. The song features the first orchestral accompaniment the band has ever used, it was said that JC wrote the orchestral parts. The song is built up on guitar arpeggios in the key of B, slow drums and a double bass accompanying the slow tempo of the song, and the band singing in a choir-like style during the outro of the song.

2.Morning Show(Mascenon)
-the song was written originally to be a happy song but was later revised into a disturbing story teller. The song talks about a man obsessed with a TV Host he sees on the Morning Show everyday, he then stalks the woman by writing an I Love You sign at her car's tinted window, sending chocolates and flowers to her, and finally breaking into her house, the song ends with a chase inside her home and finally the cops arrive after a neighbor calls 911, the stalker attempts to stab the TV Host but he is then shot by the cops and the TV Host was sent to therapy. The song is built up by a sexy guitar riff, distorted drums and bass, flanging, and Troy's soft voice.

On behalf of the band, I would like to thank everyone who supported the single, the album, and the band as a whole. We are gonna be touring with Quarantine pretty soon and take a rest for a few more days before going back to the studio and work on the next album. Our song collection is still pretty full so we need not write more songs, but inspiration has no limit so we might as well keep writing stuff to satisfy ourselves. Once again we would like to thank each and everyone of you for the support, see you soon!

The Times EP is self produced, self released Extended Play consisting of 3 of the band's oldest tracks, Moonlight, Standing On The Edge, and Riot. The band is busy recording so they had to get the raw tapes of all 3 songs, expect great music with bad quality. Moonlight is a soft acoustic ballad with lyrics about the beauty of silence, peace, and the natural state, it was originally recorded when the band was only 5 months old. The second track, Standing On The Edge showcases the band's early trashy style with scratchy guitars, a heavy bassline, and Troy's screaming vocals, written back when Troy was 16. The final track Riot was also a part of the band's first EP, Project: MK Ultra. It features the band's guitar pop sound and lyrics about political anarchy. If you are a hardcore fan of the band and like to know how they sounded like before they were famous, better buy this EP!
