OOC: It's been 3 weeks since I last made an RP and I lost my willingness to make one, but now I'm back and badder than evah!! (so please excuse me if this RP is bad..)
Grudge is the 3rd single released off Reckoner's sopho album Backstabber. It talks about Troy's anger issues and the effect they have on him and the people around him. The single features one odd b-side,
Phantom, Phantom; and a
remix of the title track by bunker18. The music video would be premiered the next day after the single's release which is a first. The music video was directed by Dale Tucker, the man behind the artwork, and was the longest and most difficult video shot by the band, it was done in 2 weeks.
Tracklisting:
1.Grudge(Mascenon/Anderson)-The song was written by Troy in order to let all his anger out, literally putting all his anger in paper. "It was like going to anger management counselling"said Troy when asked what he felt about writing the song. The song is the most aggressive yet complex song the band has made featuring heavily distorted guitars, screaming adlibs, and 3 guitar solos played and made by JC. "The song has to be the hardest we have written, so many chords, so many solos" said JC. The song begins with Troy playing a clean ascending guitar riff. A few seconds more and the rest of the band come in; the most distinct part though is JC and Carl’s heavy distortion. The verse starts with Troy singing in a gentle yet noticeably angry voice and JC playing in clean guitar, the lines in each verse are separated by JC’s guitar fills. The pre-chorus is consisted of a semi-distorted riff imitating Troy’s vocals played by both JC and Carl. It soon breaks down into the chorus where the intro riff is also played. Troy’s voice goes from gentle to rough as it is accompanied by 3 heavy distorted guitars. The song goes on for another verse and chorus before going into the solo. The solo is still consisted of the 3 guitars but with altering effects. The bridge connecting the chorus to the solo is made up of heavy distortion; it is then followed by a clean guitar riff played by Troy. It is connected back to the chorus by another heavily distorted riff; the chorus riff has minor alterations for the third time it is played though. The song’s outro is made up of a clean guitar riff, and a heavy distorted riff imitating the former followed by seconds of improvised solos and notes. The song ends suddenly like it was cut off.
2.Phantom, Phantom(Anderson)-A weird, eerie song which showcases the band's experimental abilities."This song may be the shit or shit, it depends on your opinion" says JC who wrote the song. The song started off as an instrumental guitar song but the other instruments and lyrics by Troy were added in the later part of its development, ordered by Regan Futrell. The song starts off with a bluesy riff played by JC and after a few more seconds, the bass drums come in. The bass and rhythm guitar come in after the 1st minute while the hi-hats and snare are added. The lyrics are not clearly understood as Troy sings in a whispering voice. "One word to describe the song, weird" says Troy.
3.Grudge(bunker18 remix)-The Grudge remix is a dance take on the original guitar rock feel of the song, seems difficult to do but bunker18 has pulled it off perfectly. The song features the guitar riff played by a keyboard, the bass by synthesizers, and the occasional drums replaced by a drum machine. The vocals remain in the same tempo as the original unlike the others which were raised to 20 BPMs higher. When asked about the remix, the band had this to say: "Sounded like Daft Punk met Radiohead".
