RYAN ROSS HERNANDEZ RETURNS WITH WHAT KIND OF DAY HAS IT BEEN ON OCT. 19, 2010FIRST SINGLE "HOLLYWOOD HILLS ASSASSIN" IS A EFFORTLESSLY SEDUCTIVE & IRRESISTIBLE METAPHORICAL TALE OF A KILLER THAT MEETS HIS MATCH INSIDE OF THE LOVE STRICTURE OF A HEARTBREAKER (New York City, NY – July. 12, 2010) -- Ryan Ross Hernandez's
What Kind of Day Has It Been will be released on October 19th, 2010 on Spice Records. The six-time Birdie/International Music Award winner's third studio album was co-produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez and Steve Jordan and debuts two years after his critically acclaimed 2008 album,
Dark Secret Love. Incorporating the warmth, melodies and simplicity of 70's and 80's California rock, with rock-oriented blues guitar licks, and emotional vocal ballads. What Kind of Day Has It Been is a confessional, relaxed, passionate, earnest and liberated album recorded in renowned studios around the world, including Capitol Studios in Hollywood, The Village in Los Angeles, California, Avatar Studios in New York City, PKO Studios in Madrid, Spain, Abbey Road Studios in London, England, and Avex Recording Studio in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The album's first single, "
Hollywood Hills Assassin" is Hernandez's sharpest depiction of the Lover's Duel yet – rounded off with dose of soul infused wooahhooohs and a sky-blue guitar solo to wrap it up. What Kind of Day Has It Been also showcases universal themes on "
Remember My Name, Someday," "
Slowly Burning in Dreams of Former Lovers," and "
What If My Mouth Makes a Mistake," while flexing guitar chops on "
Medication for the Blues," and in the showcase of the emotions one feels at the end of a relationship, by way of "
(We Split) The Fame/Depression Pill." The famously collaborative guitar player also invited one of music's brightest talents,
Miss Vanity, to appear on, "
Remember Me," a song that Hernandez has mentioned, showcases a different side of Miss Vanity. Guest also include Ryan Ross Hernandez's former bandmate,
Ashley Perry of PANIC!, and the long-awaited collaboration with the legendary,
Jakey Comatose.
"
I approach music like a director doing a period piece," says
Hernandez. "
Where Dark Secret Love was written with the timelessness of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young in mind, What Kind of Day Has It Been was written with the raw passion and self-confessional of such legends as Eric Clapton, Frank Sinatra, and Bruce Springsteen. The melodies and message are concise and from-the-gut with the efficiency of simplicity. I'm not saying it is simple in the sense that many think, . The vocals are clean, the guitar licks are clean, because when you listen back to music from those three artist, they don't sugarcoat their music. And I believe with this record, I've wanted to bring back that raw, passionate, simplicity to music. If anyone has heard, In the Wee Small Hours, the LP is so beautifully and elegantly done. It's classy, which I think progressively, my music has gotten with each release, more classy. Which on this record, has come in the form of lyrically, being sad and depressing but I feel there is enough music to party to out right now. This is the album you'll listen after the party or the morning after. Which I'm perfectly fine with because so many fans let me know that my music is therapeutic for them. Which if it means being raw and open about personal experiences, I'm fine with that. Regardless of how many ex-girlfriends hate me, after I release those songs."
