Just this past weekend they found a guy in pieces in various garbage bags across different beaches of the city. Of course they haven't found whoever has done it.

A 9 years old girl was raped by her stepfather and got pregnant (yes, with 9 years old) of twins. The brazilian law allows abortion in cases of rape and when the mother's life is at risk (the girl could die and take her 2 kids with her due to the pregnancy). As it was a small town, the local church had a huge influence over people and it became a polemic topic here because the priest didn't allow her to do the abortion. In the end, the girl finally got the abortion and the church excommunicated the girl, her mother and the doctors. And the priest had the audacity to say it was the girl's fault that she was raped "because these girls use such provocative clothes nowadays."

As a whole, though, I've noticed violent crime to be WAY down, and other petty felonies and misdemeanors to be down as well. (I live in the New York City area)
