Earlier this week I caught up with future superstar Chase Graham in his New York apartment. This is how it went down.

Hey I’m here with the up-and-coming Rap superstar Chase Graham, how are you doing man?
Good, man. How you doing?

Yeah great. Now you’ve told me you’re looking for a record label.
Yessir.

Any success with that?
Uhm, it’s been good so far. I could have had a record deal, I’ve already had an offer but I’m just looking for the right situation, you know? A lot of things need to be in place for me to want to commit, you know, a record deal is like a marriage. So you’ve got to really find out about somebody and know what their best interests are before you take that vowel. But I’m definitely on the lookout.

Can you let us in on who the offer was from?
Nah, I’m gonna keep that under wraps. You’ll have to wait and see.

Rolling Stone recently had an online poll for top unsigned American artist and you came in at second. What do you think of this?
It’s crazy. I mean, this is probably the most intimate interview that I’ve ever done, you know? This is my dwelling and this is basically where it started and where I first decided I wanted to have a career in music and do it seriously. And I’ve sat and learnt and observed and I watched and it was crazy to find out that they said that. Ramon and I were just sitting in the studio the other night and another one of our friends, 20Twenty, was reading through all these magazines that the studio has and he just read it out loud to us and everyone just went crazy and it was a really good moment. I’m really proud of it and it shows me that maybe corporate America doesn’t get it yet and the record labels don’t get my music yet but its shows that people like my shit.

You co-wrote most of Ramon Omari’s debut album Revelations: Part I with him? Did you two meet through music or where you friends before this happened?
Nah, man, we met back when I was in high school. We met at a Jay-Z show, actually. And then we started rapping and writing music together and we became really close friends and actually roomed together for a while but that didn’t work out too well.

Why not?
Anyone who has ever met me will know that I’m a very neat person and I like things to be clean and he is just the complete opposite of that, you know? He left shit everywhere and at one point he all most burnt down the apartment block. I moved out pretty quickly after that.

Do you go out and party as much as Ramon?
Definitely not. That dude is crazy. I’m not really into the whole party scene, you know? I obviously do go out a bit and do my thing but definitely not to the extent that Ray does it.

When can we expect an album or a mix tape?
Soon. I’ll be releasing an album soon. We’re already writing for it and spending a lot of time in studios everywhere so it’ll probably be out a lot sooner than people think.

That’s all we have time for. Thanks for your time.
No Problem, man.
