This is a decade-long question really. Does a cartoon character really have the power to turn children gay? Should we be worried about Spongebob promoting such "propaganda"? Is it something we should even worry about?

Since 2005, people have been calling for Spongebob Squarepants to be banned because of supposed homosexual material in the series. Ukraine had banned the show entirely last August because of it. It's been a long-known fact that the show has hidden adult content in the show that isn't savvy enough for children to comprehend. However, the character traits of Spongebob have been connected to stereotypical gay characteristics, such as his free-spiritedness, open-mindedness, non-dominant behavior, very close relationship with his best friend Patrick, etc. There have been many scenes within the show's episodes that have went against the traditional gender roles by Spongebob and Patrick, as well as his neighbor Squidward, who representing the stereotypical sophistication in the arts that many people blatantly characterize to be common homosexual interests.

The point is, people found something to hate, Conservatives in this instance.

What do you think? Does Spongebob Squarepants promote homosexuality in children? Should the government do something about it? Even if it does promote a SLIGHT chance of homosexuality, should anyone really care?

I guess the deeper question to this thread is:

Should children be allowed to become gay at a young age?

TV doesn't turn people gay. If a show is enough to "turn" a person gay, then chances are they already had homosexual thoughts abound in their subconscious.

Shit, spongebob is fucking Rambo compared to he-man. Which I watched religiously as a child. There was so much homoeroticism in that series.

To me this whole thing sounds like " the gay agenda" repackaged. Gays has an ultimate goal of turning everyone gay.... I am pretty sure watching gay porn, clockwork orange style, still won't turn you gay.

You always come out with the most random threads lol but I love it

No. Spongebob Square Pants does not make you gay. I don't even see the appeal, after all he is a sponge, I don't know what people would find sexy about a sponge and how it could turn you "gay". Just going off by what DA said, you more than likely were already "gay".

BTW, it's 2013 and I can't believe these kind of theories are still being developed lol

A person cannot become or turn gay. They can realise they are gay, sure. But nothing any animator can draw will evr give someone the propensity to pop an erect Johnson in their mouth. This is fact.

To add, I'm not a believer in the "Gay" gene, I think more personal experiences influence a person's life choices. I don't think something as general as a cartoon could influence it, but rather interactions with other people or interpersonal experiences.

I'm surprised people remember my threads.

I do think cartoon characters can influence children a certain way, even in a gay way. I've never seen any children turning gay from watching Spongebob however, but I'm sure there's something in it if so many Conservatives are rising up about it. Obviously, Spongebob is meant to be humorous. I highly doubt there are many kids out there who are saying "hey, spongebob and patrick were a married couple that one episode with the baby sea clam. Maybe that's okay to be like that" kind of thoughts. It seems more like a "haha, Spongebob dressed like a girl" kind of reaction from children. I'm convinced that really anything can turn you gay nowadays according to the religious freaks.

But leading back to my main "deeper question" I asked in my original post, even if there is all of this scientific evidence made someday, that proves that spongebob and other similar shows can make children gay, should parents still allow children to watch them even with the "risk" of turning gay? Is it something parents should have their children stray away from something that might question psychological sexuality at a young age, or is it not that important, as many gay people have admitted to discovering their homosexuality as children?

Personally, I believe that if spongebob can turn children gay, then I guess I'll have gay kids. I doubt a tv show will be the ultimate factor in deciding whether or not a kid will be straight or not. I believe it's all in how you raise your child during their formative, impressionable years. It's all about what kinds of friends, hobbies, toys, activities they do and what their interests develop into being. However, TV shows do have a strong impact on children because of all the subliminal messages and marketing involved that sticks in people's minds, even adults. Perhaps some strands of gayness might get unintentionally longed into someone's head. However, I don't believe that will be the only reason someone might turn gay.

Maybe shows should be a little less "gay" just because so many people, particularly in America, are pretty Conservative and if so many people get pissed from absolutely nothing, then whatever. Just change it, no big deal. Society isn't "ready". But the principle shouldn't be too concerning ideally. It's just a TV show, let kids react as they please. Your parenting skills should be good enough to stray them the way you believe is right.

I've got no problem with Spongebob Squarepants. I mean, just because he brutally fucks Patrick in the ass every episode and screams at kids "GAY SEX IS THE BEST!" I don't necessarily think he's promoting homosexuality. I mean, that's not even that gay.

Wait, what, now they're holding hands too? GET THIS GAY PROPAGANDA OFF THE AIR!

This is what it's come to. The idea that homosexuality is so scary that male cartoon characters can't be happy and hold hands, lest your son decides to suck a dick. Fucking hell.

Exactly! It's like how they used to say that Satan was influencing rock artists in the 1960s to turn people into free-spirited liberals.

I mean obviously art and culture influences people and their choices in life, but it is ridiculous to suggest that people go see an action movie and then go and shoot up a mall, or that teenagers listen to Alice Cooper and then stab their mothers to death and cut off their left hand.

What I find so weird about this whole idea is that when you look at the original story about this, they condemn the show for "promoting tolerance". Yeah. Promoting tolerance. That's what these people are scared of. Tolerance.

And you know, this is the sort of thing that nobody thinks about. And then a story shows up on the news "is Spongebob turning YOUR children GAAAAAAAAAAAY? More after these messages." They're manufacturing fears and selling them to their audience.

Actually, spongebob was supposed to be an adult show where the sponge goes through adult problems, it was that until season 4 where their audiance was more children than adults. So I guess you could say sSpongebob shouldn't affect kids at all but affect adults, its original audiance.

LOL, I don't know, maybe young kids, like the five years old ones, don't realize that perhaps some of the themes explored in the cartoon could be referred to homosexual situations. Obviously there are some really contradictory themes in the cartoon and some of them explicitly are about homosexuals. But I don't think it will make kids gay, there are a lot of other reasons that makes someone gay.
