Written By: Alicia Lena Producer: Ryan Ross Hernandez, Will.Rocca, Alicia Lena Another Face In The Crowd is a song by American R&B singer-songwriter Alicia Lena. It’s the 4th single from Alicia Lena’s sophomore record, Waking Up. The song was written by Alicia Lena towards the end of 2010 in preparation for her next album, it was also produced by Ryan Ross Hernandez, Will.Rocca and Alicia Lena. It follows on from her previous three number #1 singles, Clichés Come Easy, The Butterfly Effect and Who I Am, Who I’m Not, Who I Wanna Be. The release of Another Face In The Crowd marks Alicia’s ninth single since her breakthrough into the music industry just over a year ago. The single was debuted at the beginning of August during Alicia’s appearance on Late Night with Jake Wilson as she performed it live at the end of the show. The song has also been played live regularly during Alicia’s Waking Up world tour and has often been saved for the encore. The primary elements of the song are Alicia’s traditional R&B, Soul and Blues sound that she has quickly become famed for. The single will be released on August 21, 2011. BackgroundAnother Face In The Crowd was written towards the end of 2010 by Alicia Lena in her Manhattan apartment. The song was debuted on Late Night with Jake Wilson at the beginning of August 2011. The song focuses on Alicia’s R&B elements, during the promotion of the album Alicia gave this comment on the song’s background and meaning, “It’s just what we all are, we’re all another face in the crowd. Yeah some of us will make more of a lasting impact on the world and they may go down in history but we’re all just a very small part of something very huge, It’s a song about feeling lonely in a world where a million different faces pass my way, it’s something that people have to deal with in their lives a lot and I think it’s important for people to know that even someone with seemingly everything can still get lonely sometimes. It’s a straight up R&B song and it fits in pretty well with the rest of the album. I think that this song is one of the most raw songs on the album, it’s just me playing the piano and singing, there’s no effects, no drums, no guitars, no bass nothing but a piano and a voice which in my opinion is one of the most powerful tools you can have.” Like previous singles from her sophomore album Waking Up, this song is stripped down to the basic elements of Alicia’s voice and her piano, something that has quickly become her forte as she creates her niche as a singer-songwriter on her second album rather than just a pop star which she seemed to be when she released her debut just over a year ago. And like the majority of songs that Alicia wrote for her sophomore album, she wrote this song in her Manhattan apartment while sitting at her piano, the song’s lyrics and theme came from Alicia just staring down at the street and thinking about those tiny people down below as they just went by their own day to day business, As a songwriter Alicia shows that she continues to focus on thoughts and her songwriting niche is quickly becoming her coming of age songs in comparison to her debut which were more focused on upbeat songs about love and heartbreak. Her change in direction seems to have pushed her away from the basic pop songs and into something different and with a little more depth unique-ness. LyricsNew York Is Lonely And New York Is Cold You Learn To Grow So Quickly, You Learn To Grow Old Main Street Is Over-Crowded Even At The Best Of Times And New York Is Scary, Full Of Those Petty Crimes --- I’ll Head Out Into The Country Where I Can Walk The Streets Without A Care I’ll Head Out Into The Country Because I Know I’ll Never Find You There --- The Damage From Manhattan It’s Already Done I’ve Spent My Evenings Alone Too Often, It Ain’t So Fun My Piano Has Been My Only Real Friend It’s Time To Leave, It’s Time For This To End --- All I’ve Ever Wanted Is To Be Proud All I’ve Ever Wanted Is To Be Another Face In The Crowd Another Face In The Crowd --- Time Passes By Quicker When You’re Having Fun That’s What They Say And Then They Teach You To Run If Grace And Beauty Is All You Really Have Right Now Then I Guess That Will Be Enough But Life In The Fast Lane Can Still Be Pretty Tough --- I Can Live Alone Somewhere In The Country With The Breeze Of The Wind And Sea I’ll Head Out Into The Country And Live Life Like It Should Be --- The Whisper Of The Wind And The Echoes Of My Mind I’ll Feel Like I Finally Belong And That Is What I’ll Find Who Needs Money, Who Needs Fame Who Needs Drama, Who’s To Blame --- And All I’ve Ever Wanted Is To Be Proud And Now I’m Finally Just Another Face In The Crowd I Don’t Mind Being A Nobody I Don’t Need This Fame I Know I May Seem Ungrateful It’s Just A Tiring Game --- Who Needs Money, Who Needs Fame Who Started The War And Who Is To Blame Who Needs Nightmares When We Can Learn To Dream Who Needs Tragedy And Everything In Between --- All I’ve Ever Wanted Is To Be So Proud All I’ve Ever Wanted To Be, Is Another Face In The Crowd I’ll Sing My Song Until I Lose My Voice, I’ll Sing It So Loud I’ll Sing My Song Until The Sun Turns Black So Long As I’m Another Face In The CrowdLive PerformanceJake turns to the audience and says, “Well that’s all for tonight and now performing her next single Another Face In The Crowd, It isn’t gonna be released until the end of the month but this is the first televised performance of it, Ladies and Gentlemen, please thank our amazing guest for the evening, Ms. Alicia Lena!!!.” The crowd cheers as Alicia smiles and blows a kiss at the fans, she makes her way over to the piano and sits down at the stool, she takes a drink of water and then looks at the audience and smiles, “So this is the first televised performance of this song, it’s called Another Face In The Crowd.” She adjusted the microphone slightly and began to play the opening piano notes of the song, she then began singing. “New York Is Lonely And New York Is Cold You Learn To Grow So Quickly, You Learn To Grow Old Main Street Is Over-Crowded Even At The Best Of Times And New York Is Scary, Full Of Those Petty Crimes --- I’ll Head Out Into The Country Where I Can Walk The Streets Without A Care I’ll Head Out Into The Country Because I Know I’ll Never Find You There”She continually smiled as she looked at the audience, she played the piano throughout providing the backdrop to the song and showing her ability as a pianist, she continued to play the piano right through the song, until she got to the final verse of the song, she then stood away from the stool and took the microphone and walked over to the center of the stage and sang the final verse of the song. “Who Needs Money, Who Needs Fame Who Started The War And Who Is To Blame Who Needs Nightmares When We Can Learn To Dream Who Needs Tragedy And Everything In Between --- All I’ve Ever Wanted Is To Be So Proud All I’ve Ever Wanted To Be, Is Another Face In The Crowd I’ll Sing My Song Until I Lose My Voice, I’ll Sing It So Loud I’ll Sing My Song Until The Sun Turns Black So Long As I’m Another Face In The Crowd”PersonnelAlicia Lena – Vocals, Piano, Producer, Lyrics, Composition Ryan Ross Hernandez – Producer, Mixing Will.Rocca – Producer, Mixing Scott Robbins – Engineering Eliza Greene – Artwork
