Our next guests have been making a huge name for themselves recently, Riot! In The Boulevard are here with me in the studio. Welcome back to the UK.Amy: Thanks, it’s good to be back it feels like it’s been too long
Jason: Yeah, I see the weather hasn’t changed.
Of course not, it never changes. So why are you back, I heard that your taking a little break for a while?Justin: Yeah, that’s what I thought too but I guess we weren’t quite finished yet.
Amy: Well, we’ve got the final single from the album and we figured we’d come over here, play a couple of shows in London and kinda round of the year back where it started for us.
Nathan: Yeah, we really got the attention in the UK first and …
Amy: With the album sort of released and we’ve toured in support of it in the US, we thought it would be a pretty good idea to come back to the UK to sort of officially mark the end of this album cycle.
Well, we’re always happy to have you guys back in the UK. So what’s your plans for the rest of the year?Justin: Hopefully we do get a month or two free to just rest and recuperate, we’ve got the greatest job in the world so I mean I can only speak for myself but I can’t wait to get things going again and start working on a new album, but that may be a bit premature I think at this stage.
Amy: Yeah, I think we’ll plan on taking a rest and when we feel ready to get things up and running again then we’ll do that but there isn’t like a real limit for us, we could hit the studio in 2 weeks and start working on a new album, we just don’t know but the plan is for us to take a little break from things and get back to normality for a little while, well as much normality as I can have. But Jason’s gonna be playing some shows with a new band while Riot! takes a break.
And any new material to talk about?Nathan: Not from me, man!
Amy: Yeah, well I’m writing a lot so yeah that’s part of the job that I don’t take a break from, whenever I’m feeling something then I’ll start writing so yeah, there’s gonna be plenty of material to work with when we hit the studio again, we’ve got the basis to a few songs already, I dunno if we’ll use them but they’re there for us to work on if it feels right.
Justin: Yeah definitely, the process is interesting for us because it’s a complete unknown, we can go into the studio with a full album’s worth of material and end up using none of it, but we’ll see what happens.
Ok and can we expect the same from the next album, I know your not working on it yet but anything gonna be different?Amy: Yeah I’d hope so.
Jason: Definitely, I think we’ve found our strengths but there’s also a lot that could be improved, I don’t believe in the word perfect, I think there’s always room for improvement.
Amy: Yeah exactly, I mean the success of our debut album has been amazing really, but yeah we wanna improve all of the time and keep things fresh, we don’t wanna bore people so you can expect more of the same but it will be different in some aspects.
Nathan: It’s kinda impossible to answer that really, we haven’t been working on a new album yet so we don’t know would be the obvious answer.
And Amy has been praised hugely for her songwriting, does that have an affect, the fact that she picks up a lot of the praise?Jason: It’s definitely not a problem for me, I’m not gonna claim to be a strong songwriter, I mean we all collaborated on the work but the majority of lyrics did come from Amy and that’s because she is a great songwriter, I think people will try to create some sort of divide with us even though it’s not there.
Amy: They’re all my brothers and I think people focus on the fact that I’m a female lead singer, you know it is a team effort because without these guys then the songs wouldn’t come to life, I may write the majority of the lyrics but without the music it’s nothing and this is a fully collaborative effort, there’s no one person in charge.
Justin: Yeah, I mean you don’t really get to see what went on in the studio but the band is all of ours, it is a band and we make decisions together rather than one person being in charge, and like Amy said, we’re just like a family really.
Ok, well good luck with your concerts this week, 3 nights at the Hammersmith Apollo, all sold out. Thanks guys, it’s been great having you in the studio.
