Just started watching Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy last night for the first time/s.

Sons of Anarchy is good but Breaking Bad is amazing.

17 years.

Seriously though, you don't have to wait, just don't rub it in her face, so to speak. Maybe don't make it look like you're super-happy about being single. Doesn't sound like you are, so I would say don't worry too much about how she feels about what you do with your life.

Love all of those shows.

So, I was walking earlier, in the rain here in lovely suburban Burnaby, listening to Prurient, and writing some lyrics in my head. It kind of freaked me out how dark they turned out, but hey, a nice change from the usual self-pity ones I come up with. Enjoy, and remember kids, don't have nightmares.

Quote:
When I finally have you
I will spoil you
When I finally have you
I will despoil you
When I finally have you
I will cut something off you

I will cross that bridge to nowhere
I will cross that bridge to nowhere

I will cut something off you
I just haven't decided what
I will cut something off you
I just haven't decided when
I will cut something off you with a hot knife
I will drop that knife on a cold floor
And walk away

The best bit is that "hot knife" actually comes from me mishearing Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe".

I don't like how Sons of Anarchy explains itself on screen. It's hard to get a grasp on whats happening, especially in the first few episodes when they expect you to just jump in and know everything about the world of the show.

I don't know, maybe I'm just slow. ;)

Breaking Bad is seriously one of my new favorite shows though. Very compelling story and they execute it perfectly.

I'm a big fan of FX Thursdays minus the Sheen abomination. Wilfred + Louie is the best hour of comedy for me. I do however love Community.

That just sounds like most modern shows since the Sopranos. The Wire took me an entire season before I could remember more than three characters' names. The world was up and running before the show started. Game of Thrones was similar.

Sons of Anarchy I thought was much easier to get into than a lot of shows, because there's a smaller group of characters, and there being a deceased narrator allows them to spin out the back-story slowly over time. I know the feeling you're having, but I just never associated that with SOA.

That's the strange part, I've never had that problem with other shows. I got into The Sopranos and Game of Thrones rather easily.

I honestly much prefer Sons of Anarchy to Breaking Bad. But then I've only seen up to episode 10 of season 2 of Breaking Bad where as I've been watching Sons of Anarchy from literally the broadcast of the first episode on US TV.

It's a pretty straightforward show really, it's basically Hamlet with motorcycles. A moral battle inside the head of one man, Jax, & the potential struggle between 2 different generations who have different ways of doing things.

And the new series starts tonight. I'm excited.

Eh, it looks like a pretty nondescript town or city street. I mean the sandstone buildings would tend to narrow out Aberdeen where the older buildings. It could be in the west-end, it could be some of the streets off Paisley Road. Grim Glasgow is areas like Castlemilk, Barrowfield, some other parts of the east end. I mean that could be in most Scottish towns or cities to be honest.

Well...OK, Govanhill is a bit more of a down-trodden spot. But it really doesn't LOOK so bad.

I do think the talk about "Glasgow is the crime capital of Europe" is a bit hyperbolic. I lived for 3 years in Kinning Park. I never once got assaulted, robbed, or even threatened. Some jakey teens might give you a bit of abuse but nothing more than that. But it's a city with high levels of poverty (something like 4 of the 10 poorest parliamentary constituencies in the UK are in Glasgow) so there are certainly problems with crime. There's a drug problem in the city, both alcohol & heroin, which can lead people turning into burglary & the like to afford your next hit. It's not a perfect city, & I think it's fair to say at this point that Labour have probably failed most of Glasgow, treating it with utter complacency. But as far as gun crime goes Glasgow is low on the pecking order. Knife crime is an issue, undeniably.

I just think it's got a reputation as this place of scum & villainy which is completely out of proportion to my own experiences, & that folk focus far more on the negative than the positive. People are so much friendlier than in Edinburgh or London. It's a thriving cultural city with a bustling night life. Lovely parks.

I like Glasgow.

Yeah I was just playing up to the whole title. I feel safe and despite hearing about stuff in the news or seeing statistics, I haven't came across much. Govanhill has a lot of things going on but the biggest problem I've encountered there is just dirty streets.

Cannot get into SoA still. Breaking Bad however, it just feels like it's for casual fans and film fans. The cinematography is great and at points there's the drag-on shots that only serve for character emotions.

UserPostedImage

As a writer myself I find the dialogue (scripts) very good and the twists can still jump on me.

All of this talking about shows reminds me that I still have to watch Oz.
