Glamazon has casually been leaving her fans anticipating new music for almost a year now, but pop's biggest axe-wielding star is finally back, and unsurprisingly, just as psychotic and bonkers as ever, as the lyrics to her new single "Red Wine" most definitely confirm. Just when you thought Glamazon may just be getting all lyrically soft on you on her last emotional album Ashes to Ashes which experimented with shoegaze and noise pop, she returns with lyrics such as "Chills running up and down your spine / And I'm drinking your blood like red wine"... lovely. Clearly, her fanbase wasn't the biggest fan of her last album, and it may have just ruined the illusion that Glamazon isn't in fact a cold-hearted, man-killing mad woman who doesn't feel anything but a passionate hatred for most things in the world. However, no matter how good the last record was, it apparently didn't sell well enough, so we're willingly to let that slide and pretend this is the follow-up to her Diamond selling The Beauty of Pain album, where she was at her peak in popularity. But can she claim it back this time round? "Red Wine" is one of those songs that will either gain the singer a ton of buzz, or fall flat on its face. Lyrically, the song serves up nothing new for Glamazon, who has obviously realised the whole pop villainess shtick works extremely well for her. Although it's been a while since we've seen this side to her, so it's more than forgivable, because we've definitely missed some more Glamazon bad girl tunes to add to the collection. It's not hard to tell it's not the deepest of songs once you hear the chorus for the first time, it's of course Glamazon being her usual self, drinking her lover's blood just like red wine. Perhaps this song is just about Glamazon's personal life? How kind of her to give us all an insight into her day-to-day hobbies! No big deal. Sound-wise, "Red Wine" is the perfect mix of the experimental sounds of the last album, and the more pop twist heard on earlier releases, and overall, it makes for a successful combination that will please old fans, and hopefully gain new ones. Loud sirens, hand claps and powerful guitar riffs are all thrown in together to make a chaotic, but infectious sounding anthem, that could possibly go down as one of the classics within Glamazon's discography. It's bold, confident and definitely unapologetic within itself, and serves good reason as to why her album is called Riot Grrrl just from hearing this song alone. Overall? We think this new song is different enough to please those who haven't fallen in love with Glamazon yet, but it's also thankfully familiar in its lyrics for the older fans to enjoy. It's the perfect song to let the masses know she's back, but is the public ready for a song about drinking blood to be played on mainstream radio? Time will tell...
