Abie Lena: For the Record

I met Abie Lena a year ago in an award show, where she was awarded with four statues all voted for fans around the whole world, I must say she was an extremely different person than she is today, well from that day until now she was gone through a very uncertain time where she said she was closer to pass away. How does a situation like that change someone’s life? How far she went to be close to die? What was going on her mind? Well her third studio album ‘The End Starts Now’ released last week sort of explained a lot from what happened to Abie, but it left us with several questions unanswered and that’s what I’ll be searching for, in this interview.

First let’s take an insight on Abie’s Career:

Abie started out her career after a performance that she gave in a very famous festival, where she performed a single song in a space where her famous sibling reserved for her, so she would be able to show her potential and later on sign a two album deal with one of the most successful record labels of the industry, the big Studio60 Records. After three months of that performance Abie released her debut album entitled ‘Love and Heartbreak’, which managed to pick at number two and sell over 4 million copies worldwide, two of its four singles released were extremely successful, who doesn’t remember the empowering track ‘Pimp’s Tears’ and the sad old jazz inspired ‘Fake Plastic Life’?

She later supported Cassie Valentine on her Pink Romance Tour and after she finished the tour, she released a special DVD produced by MTV World Stage series with distribution by Studio60, this DVD is listed as one of the most sold video albums of the world, and it sold over 4 million copies. Abie still had one studio album to release under Studio60 and all her emotions and struggles from the year that she spent touring, made her able to write ‘Seasons’ her biggest success in the industry so far. This album spawned three hit single, two of them manage to peak at number one on radio and digital charts they were ‘Cold Spring’ and ‘The Same Tear’. The album sold over 7 million copies worldwide and made Abie establish herself as a world famous pop star. But what was really going on with Abie on that time? Right after the incredible reception of ‘Seasons’ Studio60 signed a multi-million contract with Abie for four albums and three world tours, one of these tours was supposed to serve as the promotion for ‘Seasons’ but when Abie was begging to rehearse, she found out that she was sick, and by the way very sick!

I went to meet Abie in a Studi60’s recording studio based on L.A. where Abie was spending most of her time from the past four months preparing this new album launched recently. So the interview you’re about to watch was done in the end of the creation process of this album. If you want to know what’s inside Abie’s mind and heart, you’re about to find out.

UserPostedImage

I have to say first that you’re not the Abie I met a year ago, I think it’s been already one year since we met at the FCA? Is that right?
Yes, that’s right, it’s been a while. I guess I’m not the same Abie, not only physically but mentally too.

Well I hope this is for the best, I mean, I know it’s for the best. Well a lot of things are happening Abie, first I wanna talk about the album. You’ve been officially working on it for four months now and it comes out next month. How’s the excitement?
I guess I’m more anxious about performing than releasing the songs, it’s crazy because it doesn’t seem too long since I released my last album, I think it’s been just one year and a half only. But I’ve been away from a stage for like a century I guess. But of course, it’s a new era, new music, new sound, it’s exciting as well.

I’ve been in one of your concerts at the Pink Romance Tour and I can tell you, you’re an incredible singer. What do you think people will expect from you when you go out to tour this album?
That’s frightening, I really don’t know, I wish I know, but it’s hard to say. I think most of people will go to watch me sing the old songs. The hits, like ‘Cold Spring’ and for that I’m obeyed to sing old songs, despite I feel like singing the song I’m working on right now, because it fits more of what I’m feeling at this moment of my life, but as an entertainer I have to give my fans what they want to hear and I do love the old songs.

The songs I’ve listened so far from this new album, sound a lot more theatrical and Broadway than anything you did in the past. It’s a risk sound I have to say, well obviously you have the blessing of Studio60’s head Gia Rose-Hilton.
Yes they are hardly different.

What made them sound so orchestral and lyrical?
Death, I found a way to sing about what I was going through in a more sophisticated form than just a piano or guitar song. I think that increasing those lyrics I was writing with violins, orchestras and progressive drums would make them sound cooler and funnier. It may sound contradictory, especially because we’re are talking about life and death and everything that’ in between this transition, but it’s the reality and I wanted my fans to feel it but not the way I felt it, I wanted them to feel it like if they were in a Broadway show where everything looks magical and idyllic. That was my goal, songs like ‘You make me die’ and ‘Dead for a Reason’ they could be very dramatic and over depressing if they were sung in my old style and not that I abandon that sound, but I think it’s cooler and bigger the way I sing now. As an artist I feel like we need to grow, Gia showed me that.

UserPostedImage

Speaking of working with Gia, did she help you enough in the recording process?
Oh my God, absolutely! It’s funny, because I’m on Studio60 since the very beginning of my career. It’s been almost four years now and I always admired Gia’s skills as a producer and manager but I never had the privilege to work with her.

How did you guys ended up working together?
When I first discovered I was sick, she was one of the people who called me and came to visit me while I was in the rehab. So she said that I could take the time I wanted to come back to work even though I was schedule to release a new album by the mid of January of this year. She was a sweet girl, so we kept in touch the whole recovery process I went through and everytime I felt inspired to wrote a song I used to show her, because I really wanted to show the label that so kindly signed me when I was starting and gave me so much money and prestige that I was worried about my career even though their support. In the end she ended up being the executive producer of the album. Thinking about it now, it was like inevitable for me to have her producing me, she needed to do that.

Abie discovered she had Type 2 diabetes after she fainted while she was rehearsing to tour with her second studio album ‘Seasons’. She went to a doctor and made all the exams and the diagnosis was that she was in severe crisis of a chronic illness she had. She was obeyed to stop to get healthy, she was obeyed to change her life style, her feed habits and drinking and smoking and all that she was used to do, if not she would probably be dead in a couple of months.

When you received the diagnosis, what did you feel?
The shock was not when I found out that I had diabetes, it was to know that I would need to change my life otherwise I would be dead soon. That was the hardest pain I’ve ever felt in my life, one of the things I always praised in life was my ability to do whatever I wanted to do, my freedom was the most important aspect of my life and in that particular day it was taken away from me. I had to find other ways to believe that I should get better and healthy again. In the end I realize that the wish to live was stronger inside of me.

UserPostedImage

You chose to be hospitalized in a rehabilitation clinic, why did you decide that?
It was easy for me to take that decision, I knew that I just couldn’t go home and deny to myself that I would follow all the prescriptions and recommendations the doctor said to me. I’m a very lazy woman, so I remember I called my sister to come home that I needed to talk with her and my mom. They came and I announced them my decision, I was thinking that if I had all this money, I would not go through this transition alone. The Rehab was the lightest way I found to re-educate myself. I had to abandon everything I loved to eat.

You lost 15 pounds, was that your intentions?
Yes it was, I had to, it’s crazy because I was always the one to say to my fans that we didn’t need to be thin and that we should just be ourselves and didn’t matter what people would say, but the truth is that when it’s about health and be healthy, you have to make it right, and lost that weight was one of the goals I had to achieve.

Is there still anything you keep doing from that old life you had?
Oh, I still smoke, my doctor will kill me for revealing that, but can’t fight it, I mean, I eat healthy, I took medicines I don’t drink anymore, and guess what? I don’t even fuck anymore, so at least I can smoke!

What were the reactions from your mom and your sister, actually I think no one ever asked you this before, how is your relationship with your sister Magie?
They were very complacent about my illness, very supportive and gave me the strength and love I needed, well they love me so much. Magie and I have five years of age differences, in our childhood we were like normal kids, so we used to fight a lot but we love each other so much, now that we’re adults she’s like my best friend and a helper too, she writes songs with me and I write songs with her too, it’s good.

You grow up surrounded by the success of ElectroDeath, was that one of the reasons you wanted to become a singer?
Yeah, I saw them rise to fame and I became sort of friend to Julia and Lilly too. I used to go to their studio sections, whenever I could and even their concerts and video sets, all of that was a rich and favorable experience for me to create within my heart the desire to be in this business and to be successful just like they once were. I guess I was blessed, but music is in our family blood, my dada used to write songs for Brazilian acts, he was a composer too, so we were often with him in his job and we were the first people to listen his creations.

By the age of 10 years you lost your father for Cancer. I believe it was a shock both for you and Magie, how was your relationship with him?
The best relationship ever, actually when he passed away I felt so bad, because I was not sued to say I loved him, but he was the bravest man I ever met. Magie had some feuds with him, maybe because of her age at that time, she was fifteen years old when he died, but we all loved him so much and he was a good dad.

UserPostedImage

Abie had a long relationship with her childhood friend when she was releasing her debut album, but due to her touring and lack of time to spend with him, they broke up when she was touring at the Pink Romance tour. After this relationship, Abie didn’t date anyone else until today. But she’s been one of the best broke up writers of the business so far, her last album ‘Seasons’ were wrote about her relationship with her first boyfriend.

You didn’t have so many relationships, but you had a very intense one which by the way was responsible for your last album themes. What do you think you could do different to be in a long relationship?
That’s awkward to answer, the truth is that I had this man with me for almost two years, but I kind of committed to music while I was dating him, so most of my time was dedicated to music and he started to feel like he was being neglected. It was not happening that way, but I do blame my career for my messed love life. It complicated because I have to dedicate time and always be traveling and all of that stuffs that comes with fame and he didn’t want to abandon his like to live my life. So we ended up breaking up. I don’t regret breaking up with him, but I think I could’ve be more persistent, who knows what would happen if I had told him that I loved him and I wanted to be with him that time. But I don’t feel anything for him today than just a fellow feeling.

You’ve been single for a while now, do you plan to find a man for yourself?
I’m in a very narcissist period in my life. After I recovered my healthy and I did this record and I’m about to tour the world with my songs, I’m loving myself, I don’t really need any man to be with me right now, but of course, I can’t be alone forever and I do miss someone to call my love. But I’ll let things flow naturally, I’m gonna search anyone, I’m complicated.

Abie is going to tour with Tisha Jackson she also has a duet with her in this new record. Before Tisha she never sung a duet with anyone else, but she did some other kind of collaborations on music industry, first she toured with Cassie Valentine, than she shared love messages with Alicia Lena, she often seem to talk with Kourtney and Jennifer Armstrong. It’s safe to say that Abie is one of the most loved singers in the business.

Once you shared some love with Alicia Lena, you even sung a cover of one of Alicia’s classic singles in your DVD, but you’re not a singer who’s been doing so many duets in the music industry. Can you tell us why?
I can’t, I think duets must happen from wishes to sing with people you admire. Alicia is one of my main influences in music, I love her artistry and generosity and her voice is gorgeous, I used to say were like sisters, I mean her surname is Lena too. I wanted to sing with Tisha for a long time, she’s one of a few divas that has been releasing music and making success for a long period of time and I think that’s where I want to be after five, six or maybe ten years of career. But I do like to listen what’s on the mainstream, I like to compliment artists who frequently keep releasing good music and there are lots of them right now. I think we’re living one of the best moments of music in ten years.

You write music for other singers, do you plan to write more often?
I don’t write music intentionally, most of the writer credits I get on other singers music are ideas I had but they remained incomplete. My manager is also manager of a lot of other artists so whenever he can offer some of my ideas for others fellow singers who’re under his management, he does it. And people seem to like them and make them happen. It’s cool for me.

Abie is a star on its perfect form, she’s been releasing good music, most of them acclaimed by critics and musicians from all over the world, we don’t know much about her private life except what she lets us to ask and be answered back from her. There are no scandals and no deviations on her path to success. With two albums on her shoulders, she’s ready to grow with her music and to communicate with her fans through this music. It’s a new Abie Lena in a new style and sound. Her album debuted at number five, not an extraordinary debut for someone who tasted the number one spot with her two previous efforts, but it’s quite a mark for a third album with a number one single already.

Do you fear that someday all this success could be taken away from you? Do you fear ostracism?
I fear, but not because of the fame, I could live without the fame, I just couldn’t leave without being heard. Without fans relating to me, right now I feel like I’m not the only one in this world, I feel welcomed, I feel warmed by so much love and respect I gained from my audience. That frights me if I can’t have that. My manager said that I can relax now, I’m in appoint on my career where I’m building up my own fan army. They’re planning to continue with their support and while there will be people out in the world listening to me, I’ll keep making music.

For the future, Abie plans to tour with Tisha Jackson on USA and Europe, but she also plans to tour by herself until the end of this year.

What can we expect from you in a couple of months forward?
Well I plan to be touring a lot! I plan to have this record spread in the whole world, I plan to release more singles, to make more videos, to perform on every way possible I can. I’m enjoying it, believe me, after all that happened with me, I’m enjoying life as if every day is the last one! And I plan to be living this way until I breathe no more.

I bet we’re gonna be hearing about Abie for a long time in the future and while her lungs allow her to sing, her voice will be heard. The emerging star.

The song will be available on all kinds of markets in the next July 20th which will coincide with the premiere of its music video filmed in UK a couple of weeks ago. Following the success of the two previous hit singles of the album, this song comes to reveal a new approach for Abie’s fans that used to love her debut album hits.

Abie is already touring with Tisha Jackson on her own ‘Highway to Redemption world tour’, where Abie serve as a opener for the North American and European legs of the tour, Abie plans to be touring till October where finally she’ll be going to kick off her very first world tour. But no more info will revealed regarding this tour till Abie makes the official announcement of it.

The music video for this single was directed by Anthony Mandler and it was shot at the Royal Albert hall in UK in a two day shoot. The video consists of Abie Lena’s reborn to the stage as a performer again, the video features an orchestra, the same which recorded Abie’s album and a couple of fans from Abie’s official UK. Fan club was invited to appear in the video. It will be premiering this Saturday on Abie’s official VEVO account.

Abie’s Promotional Schedule

- ‘Again’ video premiere on VEVO (July 19th)
- VH1 special, track by track for ‘The End Starts Now’ (July 25th)
- Good Morning America Summer Concert Series (August 5th)

Song Description

Let’s go back to the very old Abie Lena, the one from ‘Love and HeartBreak’, once you get there let’s increase it orchestra, violins and choirs and make it very theatrical, like a Broadway show, then we have ‘Again’. This poetic track is performed over an elaborated orchestral melody which fuses piano, violins of all kinds and sounds, plus a beautiful choir. The melody of the song is almost a funeral march if it weren’t for the bridge where a light is seemed at the end of the tunnel. The bridge of this song delivered as an incredible vocal performance by Abie, where she raised her voice till the end of the song where she vocalizes a note from the ones she used to do when she started out.

Following the interpretations of the album’s titled ‘The End Starts Now’, this time Abie is singing about the end of a relationship, although we don’t know for sure if it is a romantic relationship or a family relationship or even a friendship relationship, the fact is that this song is about broke up, but acceptance too. Abie is taking the blame for her, but at the same time she compares the situation with an assault and even says that she’s suffering. The song grows to a more confident feeling, when it reaches its end, where Abie says that the person is better without her and that she won’t die because of that. Another interpretation for the song could be the end of something that was pushing you back.

The song was a collaboration between Abie and Rick, but Gia took part on the production of it too. After this song, there’s a switch of themes and sound on the record, Abie will gain more confidence and she’ll sing about different interpretations for ‘The End Starts Now’.

Lyrics

It’s all my fault
I made our life bitter like salt
I understand why you halted
I dug my own vault
So It’s all my fault
Between us were edified walls
Without worries, we spoke loud
Now I’m suffering this assault

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

Why does this have to hurt?
Why can't we decline our lust?
And all our story is being buried
Nothing can save us
I killed both of us
And you’ll never want me back

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

Light my world
Heal my wounds
Save my love
Again

Swimming to the surface
Breathing the air of sane
Leaving all the regrets
Moments I want to forget
And we’ll be alright
Time will heal our heart
Without me you’re better
And I won’t die

Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Light my world again
Heal my wounds again
Save my soul
Give me hope
Again
Again

It’s my fault
So, heal my soul
Again

Sounds Like

Song: Again
Singer: Abie Lena
Album: The End Starts Now
Producer & Writer: Abie Lena, Rick Rubin, Gia Rose-Hilton
Directed by: Anthony Mandler
Studio60

The first piano notes of the song begin and so Abie is in a theater stage, all alone with a spotlight over her head and a microphone standing in front of her. Everything is dark except Abie, visually it gives the sensation of completely desolation, and where Abie encounters herself in this empty theater performing for the walls so she could her echoes of her voice hit the walls and come back to her. By the looks of her face expressions the words she pronounces sort of hurt her deeply, she’s feeling every word she’s singing.

As the song goes for its second verse, the lights of the theater are lighted and so all the emptiness of that big room is revealed to the viewers, Abie is completely alone in that theater. The camera shows the details of the walls, and the plenitude of the theater’s space, it’s enormous and Abie appears to be so small from the view of the last chair of that theater.

The first chorus begins and now all of a sudden an orchestra appears, accompanying Abie while she keeps performing the song for no audience at all. The videos keeps a dark tone to its imageries, which by the way, helps the scene looks epic and somehow Victorian.

The second verse of the songs starts and Abie clearly looks more confident than when she started out the performance. The lights have a very important role in this scene, because now they’re lighting certain areas of the theater and so the orchestra who remains with Abie and Abie herself. These lights affects follows Abie’s voice high and low notes as she drives the whole moment to another chorus.

The second chorus brings at last a crowd for Abie, now it’s time for fans to appear on the sits of the theater, they are appearing slowly as the chorus is being performed, and there’s a visual effect that makes their appearances, when a light passes by an amount of sits, people appears sited on it second after.
The bridge of the songs starts, and now the theater is all full, there’s a crowd, and orchestra and Abie is in full form performing for them, from the roof starts to fall silver glitter above the orchestra which is placed in front of Abie, in the lower level of the stage, Abie is in an upper level.

The final chorus starts and now the whole crowd stands from their sits to hear Abie sing the high notes of the song, at the same time each person on the crowd is holding a candle, the camera comes from the audience where people holding candles are showed, till they reach the orchestra which is not holding candle but instead there a candle beside each member of that orchestra and then it finally shows Abie holding her own candle. The shot shows Abie’s face in the front side, so the whole theater is not showed in this moment, till the camera opens up the shot to reveal that the whole theater is empty again, and as Abie vocalizes the last notes of the song, all the lights are being turned off, till the only light left is the candle that Abie was holding.

Abie Lena about the video

Quote:
I really wanted to make a video to show a live performance, I’ve been away from stages and touring for such a long time since I started out to tour with Tisha last month and it’s been so crazy and good that I really wanted to show my fans how happy I am for being able to perform for them every night.
We shot the video in two days at the Royal Albert Hall in England and it was a quite experience because there were no crowd to watch at the venue in the first day and just a couple of fans came in in the second day to shoot the audience scene of the video, so I guess I had to perform the song over and over for ghosts, it was somehow exhausting but the final edit of the video was so beautiful that made everything worth.
Anthony is a visionary, we discussed about what I wanted to represent with this video and he managed to capture my fear of stage with it and the confidence I sort of gain throughout my performance. The idea of candles and the orchestra and the lights were all incorporated as elements to represent the song’s lyrics.
My favorite scene of the video is when the audience stands for me and then I ended up being alone again, that represents just the feeling I have when I left the stage after a full concert, it’s a bittersweet sensation, because after receiving so much love from the audience you have to leave the stage and just relax and get yourself low again, despite I always feels like partying and very energized. I hope you guys will like the video, it’s classic and beautiful and different from anything I’ve done before.

Abie Lena’s charts

- The number one album ‘The End Starts Now’ is in number two this week with 330,000 copies sold, 10,000 less than mister Kato’s number one ‘Imprint’. With those sales, Abie collects 1,6 million copies for the album which by the way completed one whole month on the charts this week, the sales for the recorded boosted up due to strong streaming and airplay of its latest single ‘Again’
- Talking about singles, ‘Again’ Debuted at number two on airplay charts, an incredible mark for a third single. The video for the single was premiered on VEVO last Saturday and it was the main cause that made the single be streamed and air played strongly world widely. The digital sales remain unknown till the next charts are revealed next week.
- Abie had quite an incredible digital performance so far with her two first singles from this new alum of hers, combined, the number one ‘you make me die’ and the top five ‘dead for a reason’ which carries the famous r&b singer Tisha Jackson as a featuring, sold over 2,3 million copies. Both singles tasted the top five positions on both charts but ‘you make me die’ spent an incredible two weeks at number one on airplay.

Abie is currently touring with Tisha Jackson at the Highway to Redemption world tour, where she’ll be serving as an opening act for the North American and European legs of the tour. Abie has schedule another music video shoot for the weeks to come, probably there’s a brand new single coming up for the following month, rumors that the song ‘No love’ was choose to serve as the fourth single of the album.

While she’s currently touring at the No Venues Tour, Abie Lena is ready to release the last single of her third Studio album. The single will close the cycle she started out in the beginning of this year with the number one single 'You Make Me Die'. The song 'Little Star' will be sent to radio and download markets next Sunday and it will receive a music video which is scheduled to premiere the same day.

Little Star
Released: October 20th, 2013
Format: Digital Download, Airplay
Recorded: 2012
Genre: Soul Pop
Length: 4:49
Label: Studio60
Writers: Abie Lena, Rick Rubin
Producers: Gia Rose-Hilton, Rick Rubin and Abie Lena

This is a ballad, composed in the soul pop genre. In the song, Abie sings over a string-drenched, piano-driven melody produced by herself, Rick Rubin and Gia Rose-Hilton. It has an audible inhalation accompanying the songs melodies in the beginning of it, later this inhalation disappears giving space to Abie’s husky and passionate vocals. It’s another song that reminds us of the old Abie, especially that one from the ‘Seasons’ album era.

Lyrically, the song was written by Abie and Rick Rubin. In the song, Abie sings about searching for love while she sounds desperately and tired of being alone. She also alludes that she’s talking to God as if she was praying, it is perceived in the first lines of the song. She uses analogies such as the cold weather to ask for someone to warm he up, this also reminds us from her last album where she frequently called herself cold enough to fall in love. There’s a point where she expresses her physical need to smoke a cigarette, she said once that she could never stop her relationship with cigarettes.

There’s a switch on the theme of the songs from here on, while Abie spent the first three songs talking about death, now she goes back to what she does best, which is sing about love delusions and deceptions. She’s a pro on writing about those themes and she did a quite wonderful job in this song.

Quote:
‘To all the dearest fans I’ve being meeting around the world in this tour, I choose to call them little stars, because everytime I look at the sky at night I can see the light of each one of you reflected in those stars above me. I want this song to represent our relation now and forever, anytime I’ll feel alone or anytime you’ll miss someone you just have to look at the sky and ask the littlest star you’ll find to bring your love back, this therapy is helping me a lot. I experienced things in this tour that I never thought I would experience someday, the travel to India and the Orient just changed my mind and my spirit, I can tell I’m a new girl with a new clean soul and my heart is full of hope right now. I did a video for this song, a very inspiring one that I really think you are going to feel my state of mind on it. This year is being a self-discovering for me, every night I go on that stage I feel renewed and I thank you for all the love and support you’re giving me. I did not start to write anything new yet, but I’m taking all the inspiration I’m gathering to later take myself in a trip that will lead me to a brand new record devoted to you, little stars, the fans. I love you!'

Lyrics

Little star in the sky
Tell why are you all alone tonight?
Are you too small to shine?
Can you guide the way for my love to stay?

I’m shivering
In this cold night
I’m all alone
Little star, please shine

Please warm my heart, make my body heats, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

I’m blind by this immensely dark
I can't see the future even I look hard
I wonder where my love hides
When all this loneliness will leave my life?

Where are you?
I’m looking too
Can you find me a star?
Can you make me shine?

Please warm my heart, make my body heats, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

This emptiness is driving me insane
I light a cigarette just to burn down my words in flames
The days go by but the boredom remains the same
So please can someone save me?

Please warm my heart, make my body heat, help me out
I’m freezing from the inside
How many times will I have to beg, for true love
I’m tired of waiting by…
…for someone, anyone
Someone, anyone

Sounds Like

VEVO PREMIERE

Little Star
Abie Lena
Album: The End Starts Now
Director: Sophie Muller

Abie’s silhouette is seen in an eventide where the song starts and she’s holding a dreamcatche. The photography of this scene is surreal all the colors of the sun going down mixed with the beach reflecting on Abie gives the sensation of peace and sadness, the hopeless lyrics of the song also helps to increase the dying day ‘feeling’ the whole scene transmits to viewers.

Before the chorus of the song starts, there’s a mix of scenes from places around the earth such as a desert with a sky full of stars, but not a regular sky, it looks way more surreal than it usually would look, the addition of visual effects made it artistically approachable just like surrealistic painting. The whole video actually uses references of different surrealistic artists.

At the chorus we see Abie walking alone in the desert and the night taking over the whole set, erasing all the colors and making the video look monochrome in a blue tone. Also is added a scene of Abie alone in a room playing the piano which is huge part on the song. She’s with long hair and black dress and she doesn’t look sad but she’s even smiling just like if the lyrics of the song worked as healing for her.

The second strophe starts and we are taking back to the beach from the first scene of the video, but now it’s already night and Abie is seen in full shape, she’s wearing a white dress and she looks like a ghost sometimes. She walks near the coast of the sea wetting her feet with winds on her hair and her skin pale as a candle light. She’s not holding the dreamcaster anymore symbolizing that at night she’s does not dream as she wished to. Dark clouds at the sky covers almost all the stars except one little and pale which fights amongst the clouds to shine and perhaps guide Abie to dream of love again.

Again, at the second pre-chorus and chorus of the song, the scenes are repeated, Abie at the piano, the desert shots and Abie on the beach. The bridge of the song shows a very surreal scene, Abie is sit a small chair over the clouds of that night, there are two moons and the shooting stars flying in the outer space above her, we only see her silhouette again. This is the closest Abie gets to heaven and it represents that perhaps all the darkness around her, the stars will guide her to full recovery. The whole scene is remarkable.

The last chorus of the song consists of a mix of all the scenes showed before in the video, even the dreamcaster scene at the begging of the video is showed again. All those scenes culminate to Abie dreaming of love up in the sky above the dark clouds holding a star in her hands. In the final seconds of the video Abie opens her hands and free the star she was holding, it flies high in the sky and with a slightly smile on her face Abie closes her eyes.

Quote:
Hello dear fans, I have something special to share with you, first is that this year it’s been so amazing to me, I had the opportunity to travel around the world in this amazing tour and I’ll never forget the love I received from you. The other one is that I filmed THREE music videos last month, yes THREE, because I know you guys like when I act creative and do crazy stuffs with my music. So there will be release one video per week starting today. The first video is for the song, which is my favorite on the re-issue of my album “The End Starts Now (Phoenix Edition”, the song is Beloved. The video was directed by Ben Mohr, it’s the first time O worked with him and he is just one of the three directors I worked to produce these videos. Let me know what do you think and don’t forget next week it’s time for another video!

“Beloved”
Abie Lena
Album: The End Starts Now (Phoenix Edition)
Director: Ben Mohr

The video starts with Abie driving an old Cadillac in a long road in the desert. She’s wearing no makeup with her hair messed by the wind that comes through the window of the car, with only the sound of the car’s engine and a certain dry feel sensation. Abie then takes an orange cassette and puts it into the radio of the old car, and the songs starts to play.
She lip-syncs the song first verses, and these shots are all about interpretation of symbolism that appears throughout the video. First it’s Abie’s face expression, she looks all clean up without make up, her skin it’s bright by the sun above her, she sings it peacefully and kind of gracefully too, it’s not a deep dark song and we clearly perceive it on Abie’s countenance.
A certain moment, it is showed vultures flying above Abie’s car, she looks through the windows and visualizes them, as if it was something that she was used to do, she almost smiles with that awkward scene, it alludes us that she’s being in that car driving for a very long time, and of course if we go further in the interpretation of the video we realize that maybe “the old Cadillac” represents Abie’s life and all that she thinks she has learnt and gained throughout it.
Another symbolism if some weird traffic signals pointing to nowhere, they say “NOWHERE 1 mile away” Abie seems to be heading to nowhere, when she sees these signs she feels comfortable like if she was reaching her goal. That probably alludes the wish to change that’s within the inner lines of the song, after all no one wants to be trapped in a relationship that won’t work.
In the final verse of the song, Abie arrives at a crossing, where she’s able to presence three different scenes, the first one on her left there’s an old couple walking together to a small town, they’re hand in hand, and they seem to be talking with each other, that scene makes Abie drop a single tear, but she’s smiling.
On her right, there is a little girl walking to meet her mom who’s up ahead of that road, Abie seem to remember a beloved scene of her own childhood, where she usually found shelter on her mom’s embrace, the little girl gets near her mom and receives a big warm embrace, such a graceful scene.
Ending the video is the last scene Abie visualizes, which is ahead of her there’s a handsome man asking hitchhiking, he saw Abie stopped on the crossing, and Abie sees him too, she smiles and so does he, she engages the first gear and drives near this man, as the song finishes, Abie looks at him smiling, somehow that smiles could possibly be for someone Abie already knew, so perhaps she met this man before. She asks “To nowhere?”
