And BTW I have not ben to metal concerts but I've seen them on youtube. They are crazy and I do not call that singing period. Just my opinion. I understand it requires a lot of energy to make noise but seriously it is just not sining. UGHHH, I fell like throwing up

Eh, well sometimes it's singing. Sometimes it's growling, grunting, moaning, shouting or sometimes screaming. There is ENERGY at metal gigs. That's the point, I mean it's an entirely different atmosphere, it's kind of aggressive, so long as the music is tight (& obviously you like it) you are too busy either headbanging or moshing or just listening to the music to need to watch the band do anything on stage.

But then I take the view point that music is about the music rather than any ancillary stuff around the music.

Steph, why do you start these threads when no matter what people say you get mad and go on about how Pop is better than Metal? If you start an argument with a rock hard opinion, then the whole argument is useless.

Stop putting words in my mouth. I was just stating an opinion (to me Pop is better than Metal) but I never stated that, I'm talking about dancing and singing. Just like you post your opinion on Pop I post mine on Metal

And Lepelbos
You wanna hear what I think of metal, I personally think Metal is shit music and has no depth whatsoever to ME. It sucks and its laughable. I hate hearing screaming and I don't think screaming is music at all. It's the shitiest most dumbest "music genre" ever.

Of course, what are moshing and headbanging if not a form of dance?

There's a reason why Exodus wrote a song called The Toxic Waltz

That's all bullshit. Hell no, if Britney standed around so she can sing "live" than you will be bored, britney fans will get pissed, the show will get negative reviews, it would basically ruin Britney's career.

That's only because Britney's voice and lyrics aren't powerful enough to keep you mesmerised without her doing some sort of sexual dance routine.

Dancing can add a lot to a show. James for example. Tim Booth is the best performer I have ever seen - his dancing makes such as Shakira look like a total beginner. (I'm not saying that Shakira can't dance, because she can, and pretty damn well too - but Tim is in an entirely different league.) He also sings live, every time, usually ad-libbing on at least two or three songs. The stage effects are nothing like Britney's, but there's always some megaphones and crazy lighting (and on more recent tours, Andy, the trumpeter, does the raised platform thing in a pink dress with a bit of dancing, just because he can), and improvised audience interaction, enough to keep me happy.

I've also done a bit of dancing every time I've sung, still singing live. Mainly because I'm crap at keeping still, I can dance - and I'd rather make myself look good than just stand there doing, ahem, shoegaze :P and looking nervous because I'm not moving. I don't know if Britney feels this way, I didn't get the job as her PR. :( (Only Stacy, and maybe Gemma, will know what I'm on about.) I did like Britney's Circus show, I'll admit, because I like dancing and stage effects, I love it when an artist can really put on a show as well as the music, even if it's just through interaction (eg. All Time Low - I loved the way Alex, erm, threatened the crowd, shame it was an empty threat, haha). But I just wish that Britney did sing live a little more often, because the music should come first every time.

Are metal shows crap? Yes, in my opinion. Too loud and potentially painful. I've been in a moshpit before, and despite the hot guy who began a v. short relationship with me by asking, "will you mosh with me?", I hated it. I've seen some brill rock/indie/pop-rock artists, but moshpits? Not mah thang. ;) I'll stick to studio versions of metal songs.

Well Britney has just recently added a new song on her tour which is sung live so at least you have a small part in the show that is live and is also proof that she can sing live. I enjoyed the show more than others that I've seen who have sang live so it doesn't really bother me. Her dancing, the effects and the overall show was amazing (I wouldn't have seen it live twice for nothing!)

Exactly. Like acting, like magic, like the vast majority of entertainment, it's contrived and fake. People who're singing don't really believe they can't live without someone, hell if you look at the amount of varying love songs on the average pop album, either the artist is lying, extremely slutty, has multiple personalities, or is creating songs as entertainment. The "realness" is not necessarily in the music, or even in the performer, but rather the mind of the audience. Sometimes it's a combination. But mostly, the only time a song that is true for the writer is ever actually true is the very moment of its writing. Every performance after that is an attempt to capture the fleeting essence of that single moment. It's like a photograph or a video of an event. It will never be the real thing, but it allows us to remember or feel that we have experienced it in some way.

In short: All entertainment is fake. Lip-syncing does not invalidate an artist's integrity (unless they lie about it), and all these rock and metal bands who claim they're doing it all live and raw, and are therefore "the real thing", they're bullshitters just like everyone else. Entertainment is fake because reality is boring.

That's not true!! a lot of Britney Spear's song relate to her daily life, even "Kill The Lights". Do you ever study the life of a huge pop artist.
Its all part being an artist, people have a vision and that vision reflects themselves. When does it matter anyway if its real or not. Music is meant to entertain you in some way otherwise what's the point of it. No one's music is 100% real. If you are singing about loving Dragons, are dragons real? no. But the story within the song is about loving which is real.

The point here is I think Dance songs shouldn't require you to sing.

Listen retard, your music is shit, your music is noise compared to mine! And music is never 100% real. I show interest into what I find interesting, If I don't like something I won't show interest to it and if you think screaming is music then get your ears checked dumb ass. I know a lot about music, you don't know what music is, you grew up and someone told you making noises like a construction site is music, blame that person for not teaching you the real value of music.

Well that's an odd statement. Totally fallacious too. Are fantasy lyrics real? Of course not. That doesn't prove that no music is real. There's a difference between corny love songs and music from the heart, which absolutely does exist.

Time for me to step in. This is a totally preposterous statement, and the hypocrisy can be seen a mile away. Despite stating numerous times throughout the forum, in your defense, that the above is in fact "your opinion", it's not so much an opinon as a logical falacy. You can't call someone else's music shit while at the same time proclaiming your taste is almighty. It's just not on. Especially when someone such as Bob Dylan, for example, has far more renowned credibility in musical history than any flavour-of-the-moment pop singer.

At the same time, you're stereotyping.

He used Bob Dylan as an example. Bob Dylan is not metal. Do your research.
