"i cant let you go. not now." erica says almost apologetically. the ball was in motion and wouldnt stop until it came to a wall. she had to ride this until the end. inwardly, she winces when she feels dustyn go limp. she'd been there before. being helpless and just waiting for that final moment. unlike most of her and nina's antics. this one erica almost felt like it wasnt her doing it. she was just watching someone that looked like her do this horrible thing. she did take her finger off the trigger and float it slightly above. she tried mentally telling dustyn it wasnt personal, they just couldnt do it any other way.
"i dont give a fuck about your sister. why would i,or the brotherhood care about what goes on in good neighbor? i barely even know her. " dallas says, shooting his eyes from erica to dustyn and to nina. every muscle in his body wanted to jump and snatch him from the girls. suddenly,he wasnt dallas the paladin,he was just dallas. as impotent as he was when billy assaulted dustyn so many years ago. " please...just take the gun away from him and let him go."
nina looks to erica and shrugs, taking her pistol from her waistband and holds it on dallas. "couldnt hurt, love." nina says to erica,as chipper as ever. while she was with erica no matter what, she was the far more cool headed one. their point was made and they had the high ground. dallas couldnt get to the rifle and dustyn certainly wasnt armed. " right, let him go. but i swear if you so much as fart off that bed,dallas...." nina orders, holding the chipped black pistol on him.
erica walks dustyn over to the bed and jumps back when she is within arms reach of dallas. with dustyn out of her grasp,it once again felt like she was in her own body." mariko has been replaced by a synth. forget you ever know that and make sure your buddies never find out."
dallas gently takes dustyn and lightly holds his hand. " dust, its going to be ok. we're going to get through this. we have to." he tells his boyfriend as calmly as he could. his wavering voice did give his concern away though. he looked up to erica, almost ready to weep. "why tell me?! unless she is one of the robot ones, nobody can tell! you didnt have to...this!" dallas pleads.the situation made no sense. even the best tech of the brotherhood couldnt detect synths. these two morons could have just went about their day and avoided this whole scene.
nina pipes up,as she was usually the good cop in these situations anyway. and given that mariko was the subject, this had to be handled very carefully. she was fairly certain that erica didnt really want to hurt dallas or dustyn. but she would be the one to lose her cool first. " trust me,dallas. you'll know." nina almost smirks. "mariko, love? could you come in here? we're having salisbury steak." she calls sweetly in case anyone else is in earshot.
mariko pops her head in the window."how ya'll doing?" she grins to dallas and dustyn. she didnt like what was going on,given the people involved. but she hated the brotherhood enough to say the ends justified the means. she props her head on the window sill and watches the players in this insanity.
"oh." dallas says simply. that wasnt mariko's voice. he knew that much. he studied her for a moment. she blinked, she breathed. the muscles under her skin moved. it was mesmerizing knowing she was a synth. other than the glaring flaws, she was perfectly human in every way. she had inflection in her voice. this was the first synth he had ever knowingly seen up close. he snaps out of it and looks back to dustyn. he holds his hands up in a surrender. "she looks perfectly human to me. no synths here." he states sincerely. his earlier conversation about synths with dustyn came back to him with a vengeance. if they got out of this alive,he would have to have a serious talk with dustyn.
over in the pleasant side of town, erich laughed when billy spoke of his parents. "it'd be totally worth it just so you could call me a mother fucker. you still didnt mention if she was hot. but...you khans are a pretty bunch,so ill assume." he grins, the not knowing what tomorrow holds mentality of the wasteland had taken over his mentality.he takes off his leather jacket and hangs it on the corner of the dresser. it was caked with dried blood and dirt,he briefly could remember when it was clean. "yeah. i hear you. my dad was like dustyn's. but instead of religious and all that. he was all about being a god damned MAN. needless to say,i never made the cut for him. my mom was an aloof alcoholic who was all about keeping up appearances." erich stated, taking the revolver from his waistband, briefly aiming it at the wall before putting it on the nightstand. the night jayne's dad unofficially adopted him,he had done the same thing with his father's service pistol, but aimed at his father. it was back when he first dated erica and brought her home to meet his parents. his father insulted erica and it was on. if not for jayne, erich probably wouldnt be sitting here talking to billy now. erich sits cross legged on the bed and intently watches the blanket. erich is suddenly very serious. he assumes this is probably the most intimate billy gets. giving of the body was one thing, but this was billy completely naked. erich could easily crush him by insulting him. but he appreciates being let in by billy. "its the most beautiful thing ive seen in a long time." erich says softly. he gingerly reaches out and touches it as if the mere friction of his touch could send it up in flames. "ill sleep on a chair, billy. i dont want anything happening to it." erich says, carefully letting it fall. it seemed so out of place in reality that it could shatter at any moment. he did want to touch it more than he had to. |
