With no shock whatsoever I probably would be considered a Dance-Pop artist. I make music that reflects my vision like when most artist and whoever calls me a sellout, I'll just laugh at them while I'm faning my self with all the hundred bills I'm making by just doing what I love.

I'd do whatever comes to me at the time and sounds right I guess. Right now all I can seem to write are songs that sound like a bastard son of Pantera and Alice In Chains, which isn't a bad thing.

I thought Pantera was a bastard child of Alice In Chains and Motley Crue, which renders your songs useless because they're incest

Eh, throw in KISS, Slayer and Van Halen and we may be talking, but last time I checked, thats an odd number, rendering it impossible and therefore your previous comment useless.

You could always throw in 3 more bands, which will make Pantera the bastard grandchild of Black Sabbath... or something, therefore your previous comment is useless Think

Unless it was one big orgy, in which case there is no proof they are even slightly related to Black Sabbath. I deem you useless.

You gotta admit they were influenced by Black Sababath, either directly or inderectly, thus for not recognizing it, you're useless

I know that, I know what a sell out is! But there are many people who are called sell outs in the industry, just because they upgraded their music.

I think the sellout thing comes with business decisions overrule musical or creative decisions, assuming of course musical and creative decisions were previously the driving force. In pop music, that's never been the case.

Pop is designed for target audiences from the ground up. Generic sentiments are preferable to specific ones so that the widest number of people can relate to them. Certain breakout stylistic shifts, originally adapted from underground influences, are utilised for a contemporary feel. But above all else, pop music relies on marketable gimmicks and hooks, those little things that make one song that much more recognisable. A strong melody, a funky rhythm, a strange word in the lyrics, a weird sound effect... Whatever it takes to be "that song with the..."

So you can accuse Metallica of selling out, but not, say, Britney Spears, because she was always a marketable product first and a recording artist second. You can say that Metallica betrayed their core principles, their core sound, their credibility and their integrity in search of big mainstream bucks, music videos, big hit singles etc. But then again, maybe that's just the music they wanted to make. Personally I think Death Magnetic is just as much of a cynical exploitation as any of their other albums of the past two decades, because they're relying on nostalgia to fill in the gaps, slavishly retreading ground that the hardcore fans think they want, which seems just as bad creatively as trying to appease the mass markets with melodic singles.

What was I talking about? Oh yeah... Pop artists only sell out once, the moment that they start their careers.

Right! And one thing I relalized is that the whole point of me wanting to be a performing artists whether I want to accept it or not is to become famous. No fame = No game. And wanting fame is not bad thing. That doesn't mean my music wont be good or anything. That doesn't mean they can do what I can.

I can honestly say I have no idea why people want fame. Riches? Sure, I can understand. But fame sounds like an utter nightmare. Give me privacy any day.

Pretty much. I hate the idea of being too famous to do anything, it'd be awful.

Well, I don't know about that. Are you seriously telling me you wouldn't like to stand up the front of Wembley stadium and have the crowd singing to one of your lines that you wrote?

Hell yeah, even if the music was shit.

Yes. I can't get up in front of a group of friends and sing. I'd hardly be likely to get up in front of 60,000 people to do so. I'm a quiet person who quite values his own anonymity.

Seeing as no Death Metal star is really famous I don't have to worry about that! yay! I highly doubt anyone followed Chuck Schuldiner around or that he was ever on a major magazine. For all we know Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy has a ton of sex tapes but no one knows because she plays metal.
