Shooting Star Records Artist Interview #1
Hello Titan, nice to have you hear supporting your label Shooting Star Records.> Its my pleasure. After everything this label has done for us, we are more than happy to show our support.
Very well, now I would like to get on with this short interview, just to give our fans something to tune into that would really keep them interested in you, as well as the label itselfHow do you currently feel about Shooting Star Records and Malory Evans?> We cant talk more highly of her. The woman is an absolute genius. She has her hand dipped into so many different projects, and all of them seem to turn to gold. She has definitely made a change in the industry for the better, in my opinion. As far as the label goes, I love it. They give us the resources we need to make awesome music, but at the same time they give us the creative freedom we feared we wouldnt get from a major label.
How did you feel when you were first signed and what happened after you were signed?> We honestly couldnt believe it. We had sent our demo tape to about a dozen different labels, and they all told us they werent interested. Everything from small metal labels to multimillion dollar labels just brushed us off. But Malory apparently saw something in us. Thats what I like about her. She is willing to give people a chance. From first look, we arent as profitable as lets say, Brittany Knox. But we make strong, aggressive music, and I think a lot of people can connect with that. I think Malory knew that, and her gamble on us payed off. We've had a very strong start in our career, which I only hope can get better.
Anyway, after we got signed, we all quit our jobs. I was working as a waiter at Chilis at the time. We flew out to Connecticut to record our first single, and the rest is history.
How do you currently feel about All Around The World and the Top 4?> It's a great idea to give some unknown talent recognition. As far as the top 4...I have to say I am a little disappointed with all the pop that is on the show. I'm not trying to knock any of these guys, but if it were up to me, I would like to see more rock/alternative type bands up there.
Who would you be most excited to see on Shooting Star Records after All Around The World?> Book Of Love. I think those guys have a very unique sound, and stray from the path of the typical pop artist that I was just talking about. Even if they dont win, I would love to see them get signed by a label or enjoy some sort of success.
How is the recording of your album going? Got any names for the album? (For artists who are currently recording their first album or who are working on their next album)> Yeah, we are actually planning on releasing our debut album, Suspended From The Frankincense Tree, on September 28th! Its a very complicated story, which I am not going to plague the readers with, but I am just gonna say, if you like progressive metal, and you like Greek Mythology, I would definitely check it out.
Who are your inspirations in the music business? Who do you like and dislike?> Thats a tough one. Hmm...well I have to say one of my inspirations at the moment are Suburban Sunrise. Great band, not heavy or anything, but some damn good alternative rock. I admire them because they do what they want to do. A while back, they released a Blink 182 tribute album, which got them a lot of criticism. But they stuck to their guns, they stood behind their music, and when their latest album came out, the single off that album debuted number 3 on the radio charts. They got a lot of slack, but they refused to change who they were, and now they are one of the most popular bands around. You have to respect that.
I have an encyclopedia of bands that I think are brilliant, but a couple off of the top of my head: Infinite, Mind, Daniel, Glamazon, Hellspawn, Reported Failure, Michelle Green, Jack Frost, and The Bards are some that are on the brain at the moment.
What do you think of your current label mates on Shooting Star Records ?> Speaking of sticking to your guns, another artist I really respect is Brittany Knox. Of course, she has a ton of fans, but a lot of people in the industry have been attacking her and saying these awful things about her. The papers, the radio stations, hell even other musicians are getting in on it. They are treating her like she is some kind of slut robot, manufactured to sell records. But she is still a girl, and regardless of what genre of music she makes - metal, rock, pop, blues, polka, whatever - she should be treated with some sort of respect. Im not saying that Titan and Brittany Knox are going to be going on tour anytime soon or anything like that, but we definitely have her back when it comes to this media bullshit.
I think Sally Stevenson is amazing as well. I gave her album a spin just the other day, and I loved it. To be honest I wasnt expecting to like it, because I had never really heard of Sally or any of her music. But it is definitely a contender for album of the year. That girl has talent!
And lastly, what can we expect in the future for Titan?> Well after our album gets released, I believe we are scheduled to go on tour with Infinite, and we are in the process of scheduling a few tours for the rest of the year. And obviously releasing singles for the album, etc etc. So keep track of us on titanmusic.com! Thanks for having us.
