Marksy wrote:Rising Under The Sun, is the debut EP from Lights Go Red, an experimental pop punk band. The EP is said by lead vocalist Kieran Marks to "show part of what to expect from us [the band] in the future" With many electronic influences throughout the short EP, it is either going to be a hit or miss with all those who have been wondering about this new idea from Kieran Marks (Zzzonked, The Verdict Is Vengeance) and Alex Leuiso (We Shot The Stars). Recording for Rising Under The Sun has been taking place in Trident Studios (were in the past The Beatles, Black Sabbath and Queen have all recorded) and is due to be released on Shooting Star Records. Studio E.P by Lights Go RedRelease date: 24th October 2010Recorded: September 2010 – October 2010(Trident Studios, London)Genre: Pop Punk, Electronic, IndieLength: 18.42Label: Shooting Star RecordsProducer(s): Kieran Marks, Alex LeuisoTracklist:1) Colour - 3.16 A fast building upbeat keyboard loop, using samples from popular game Super Mario Bros, is the key feature of this song, with a simple drum, non-changing drum beat for the majority of the song, other than the chorus which contains a slight change in the speed of the beat. Guitar work is based around playing simple chords with an electronic effect, and the bass follows this. Vocals for the song are sung, with a slight edit to the sound of Kieran’s voice, to make it sound slightly electronic. Lyrics for the song are based around the lack of colour in the world, and how negative people seem.2) Starless Eyes - 3.42 A blues style guitar riff is used to open the song, before the basic drum beat is added alongside the bass riff is equally as basic. There is little keyboard or samples used throughout the song, only towards the end of the song when a faint sound of a radio-automated voice is heard. Vocals for this song are provided equally by Alex and Kieran, who sing with a slight sense of aggression, and sadness. The song is lyrically is about looking into someone’s eyes and knowing they don’t care anymore.3) Bright Lights - 4.25 The radio-automated voices from Starless Eyes grow louder during the intro to the song, before more use of samples from Super Mario Bros are heard over the top of the voices alongside a typical popular punk guitar riff, with bass and drums to match. This song contains a short pause in which Kieran shouts “This is what they think we know” before the song continues in the same manner. Vocals for the song other than the shout are very upbeat, with a heavy use of backing vocals from Alex featured, almost echoing Kieran’s.4) Ghosts - 3.03 Throughout this slow paced song, the only instruments heard are an acoustic guitar and slow and saddening use of the piano which barely change throughout the song. The vocals sung by Kieran are powerful, and the meaningful. This song is about battling with the loss of a close friend due to the lack of action made by another.5) Hands (The Almost Cover) - 4.04 This cover of alternative rock band The Almosts’ Hands, is an odd choice of covers by the band, as it is far further towards the pop-punk side of the style they claim to want to be. The cover is almost the same musically, but with a slight change to the introduction of the song, with keyboards and samples being used instead of clapping. Kieran and Alex work together to provide a good mix of vocals to suit the difference in vocal range in the original song.
