Josh: Im always a sucker for a bit of strings blended with an acoustic guitar! Its a great album opener, and one which will no doubt pave way for even bigger and better songs.. if thats possible.

OOC: Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. Excellent again.

There aren't many people in the world I'm in continuous awe of, but you're one of them. Your stuff with Girlspice is already amazing (yes, I'm an adult male fan of a girl pop group), but you've never seemed to be content to stop there. Both the material you make as a solo artist and as part of a band are near perfection, which is a pretty rare thing to find. Oh, and, Ryan; I'm not fitting on your girlfriend. I promise.

- Eric Quillington

(OOC: I dunno how you did the VEVO thing. I'm jealous of that. And we're not even going to get into how much I envy your lyrical abilities, that's a whole other level.)
Kid Anything- Indie/Britpop/Shoegaze; influenced by Sigur Ros, XXYYXX, Kanye West, Blur, Oasis

(Bringing together an eclectic group of influences, Ulysses' songs are sung with carefree abandon by Nick Junk)

Kurt Ulysses - Songwriter, Guitarist, Backup Vocalist
Nick Junk - Vocals, Mojo

Infinite- Alternative/Experimental Rock; influenced by Muse, Radiohead, and The Beatles

(Known best for their experimental music and their frontman's eccentric behavior, the band disbanded after Eric Quillington's death to pursue solo careers or, in Matt Robert's case, peace of mind. Infinite released four albums over the course of their career; Blue Nebula, Midnight Skies, Insomnia, and Dancing about Architecture.)

Eric Quillington (Deceased) - Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar, Piano, Primary Lyricist
Matt Roberts - Bass
Greg Oldson - Drums, Backup Vocals, Secondary Lyricist
Amelia Florentine - Keyboards, Piano, Lyricist, Backup Vocals

"When asked 'how do you write?' I invariably answer, 'one word at a time', and this answer is invariably dismissed. But that's all it is. It sounds too simple to be true, but consider the Great Wall of China, if you will: one stone at a time, man. That's all. One stone at a time. But I've read you can see that motherfucker from space without a telescope."

Nadia: Biiig thank you for all the love! Eric, I had no idea that you were a GirlSpice fan, but hey, I do now! That's a surprise, but there's no shame in it, trust me... well, I would say that, I'm just trying to be encouraging. I think you should be more worried with what Glamazon thinks instead of Ryan! (laughs)

OOC: Thank you for all the feedback! That VEVO thing actually took me ages to do, haha.

Ryan: Starting off a record with a mellow song. You have balls, my dear Berry. Not literally of course, I would definitely not be plowing you everyday if you did. But I do enjoy it as an opener. I love a song that focuses sound wise on guitars and strings. I might actually buy this album, haha. Eric, I know your not, because you know better than that. You would be waking up very confused in Guam, if you did.

OOC: A very solid description to the sound, really gave it a true feel to it. As everyone has said, that VEVO thing looks great. Your photoshop skills never fail to amaze me.

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

Opening with fast-paced drums, "Risktaker" packs a punch from the get-go, before the tempo drops slightly for the opening verse, Nadia's vocals are sweet and slightly whispered, before they turn louder for the pre-chorus, Nadia belts out each line powerfully, before moving into an atmospheric chorus where the drums are accompanied with an orchestral backing. The lines to the chorus are almost spoken, but still put out in a way that there's a sort of catchiness to it, her voice remaining bold and confident. However, on later choruses, the spoken-style to the first chorus is gone, the instruments build up, and Nadia provides stellar vocals throughout. Everything drops out for the middle-eight, apart from gentle piano chords as Nadia's voice turns breathy and light, the lines close to being whispered, adding a needed gentle touch to the song, before moving into its dramatic final chorus.

COMMENTS

"'Risktaker' may be on the first half of the album, but I think it's definitely one that stays in your head after listening to the whole record, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a single at some point, I'm really pleased with how it turned out and also from the feedback it received from the lyrics alone. It's a dramatic song to fit a dramatic lifestyle that I explain in the song.

Overall, it's simply a love song with a twist, about not caring what damage being with the person does to you. You're blind to how they're no good for you, and yet you choose to be with them, you take the risk and decide that they're worth any heartbreak that they may cause you. We've all been there..."

My heart's alight - don't put out the fire
Let's play a game of true or false with my emotions
I'm wondering if my feelings are all an illusion
Or if they're the reality that I'm searching for
If they're the light at the end of the tunnel
Or if they're the demons that wreck havoc in my head
A maze that I can't seem to find an escape from
And I'm blindfolded on this road ahead

With you, I'm living life on the edge
And I'd jump off at any second
Just for you, and it's all for you
With you, I'm living life on the edge
And I'm hanging by a thread
Standing tall, for you I'd fall

You're the biggest risk that I'll ever take
Even if it's the biggest mistake I'll ever make
Even if I'm left in tears at the end of it all
I'll still tell myself that you were worth the fall
You're the biggest risk that I'll ever take
Even if it's the biggest mistake I'll ever make
Cause it's only you who I'd give my heart to break

Just kiss me now, before I change my mind
Will we even still know each other in a year's time?
People try to write the ending, continue pretending
That we crashed and burned long ago
But even if I'm walking straight into a car crash
I'm willing to be the one who gets taken for a ride
Cause I'm not a people pleaser, only living for myself
Forgive me or not, but I can't love him any less

With you, I'm living life on the edge
And I'd jump off at any second
Just for you, and it's all for you
With you, I'm living life on the edge
And I'm hanging by a thread
Standing tall, for you I'd fall

You're the biggest risk that I'll ever take
Even if it's the biggest mistake I'll ever make
Even if I'm left in tears at the end of it all
I'll still tell myself that you were worth the fall
You're the biggest risk that I'll ever take
Even if it's the biggest mistake I'll ever make
Cause it's only you who I'd give my heart to break

Arms spread open, standing on the ledge
Heart beating faster, jumping off the edge
Only to be caught by you everytime
But if you decide to never catch me again
The trust I had in you was a feeling I never felt before
So watch me drown as the sun goes down
And it'd all be worth it...

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

Described as the "naughty and extra loud sibling" of hit first single "Good Girls Don't Lie" from the album, "Shadow" shows the GirlSpice songstress for what we all mostly know her for in music, sweet, yet seductive vocals, mixed with a massive backing of euro-synths. As a solo artist however? We're more used to her taking the more rebellious route with loud and in-your-face vocals, but the sweet love song that is "Shadow" begs to differ from her past material, taking Nadia into a more dance-oriented sound that's often heard on GirlSpice's material. Opening the song with the lines "In the most unpredictable place / Catching the eyes of an unfamiliar face" over an unapologetic beat that goes full force from the get-go. "Shadow" became a hit single for Nadia and proved she could fill dance floors all on her own.

COMMENTS

"It's a known fact that I didn't want to make a complete dance-pop record on my own, I didn't want to make music that GirlSpice could have easily done, that would have defeated the purpose on making a solo record. I want my albums to reflect the sounds that I like as an individual, and also the stuff that I go through by myself, and I think I've successfully put that across on this album. 'Shadow' is a cute love song, nothing more, nothing less, it's focus is mainly on the sonic side to it, as it's such a euphoric and feel-good song. I wrote it about how I felt many years ago when I first met someone... cute, right? I don't have many dance songs on the record at all, but this should tide all GirlSpice fans over for now, as we don't plan on a new album any time soon, so here you go!"

UserPostedImage

In the most unpredictable place
Catching the eyes of an unfamiliar face
It's this feeling that just can't be bought
And who would've thought?
Whenever you're least expecting to find love
It's that feeling you manage to get a hold of
And you know that once you step near
It's the moment that I stop seeing clear

As the butterflies begin to spread their wings
That's when love makes us do stupid, stupid things
Getting lost in the moment, don't ever find me
It's just me and you and the possibility of we

Just when I think I'm lonely forever
I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer
On the verge of our bond becoming stronger
So let's fall fast, we're going in deeper
And when I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer

In the most unusual place
Love always transcends time and space
A stranger in reality, yet like a life-long lover
Feels like you've been waiting for my feelings to uncover
But they're all on display
No reason to be led astray
We're just like a firework that's waiting to burst
And I'm jumping in headfirst

As the butterflies begin to spread their wings
That's when love makes us do stupid, stupid things
Getting lost in the moment, don't ever find me
It's just me and you and the possibility of we

Just when I think I'm lonely forever
I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer
On the verge of our bond becoming stronger
So let's fall fast, we're going in deeper
And when I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer

I don't need your touch to feel completed
Your shadow on mine was all I ever needed
No sweet talk, nothing captured in a single word
One glance is all it took for the way I feel to go unheard
And I just can't let go...
Gotta let my feelings show...

(x2)
Just when I think I'm lonely forever
I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer
On the verge of our bond becoming stronger
So let's fall fast, we're going in deeper
And when I see your shadow growing nearer
That's when I know we're getting closer

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

With its piano opening and hand claps, "Fake It" seems to be a soft and easy-listening track, before it explodes into its chorus of crashing drums and powerful guitars, Nadia's clearly back to her pop-rock style heard on previous solo records for the track. Nadia's gentle vocals soon soar throughout the song, her voice becoming impressively strong, even having a slightly bored tone to it, to further emphasise the message of the song. Soon coming to its simplistic middle-eight from the line "I'm waving goodbye and I'm wearing a smile", the hand claps are heard once again, alongside a crowd of people chanting the lyrics loudly. The song then comes to its final chorus where the guitars become more dominant, before everything drops out for the final four lines at the end of the song, Nadia singing them by herself.

COMMENTS

"'Fake It' was a song I wrote at the beginning of the writing stage of the album, and although it's simplistic and lyrically, not the most impressive on the album, I always had the idea of what I wanted it to sound like, and I managed to have it just as I wanted. Thank god... otherwise it probably wouldn't be on the record right now! I wanted it to have some sort of anthemic feel to it, the kinda song you could just loosen up to and go crazy with whenever some guy was pissing you off. The album isn't as focused on solely pop-rock this time round, but if you were a lover of my old stuff, then here's one for you!"

UserPostedImage

I'm growing tired of all the lies
There's only so many of them I can listen to
Cupid's arrow shot you between the eyes
So tell me something new that's happening with you
You're just oh so damn predictable
Grew tired of the front you constantly put on
You say that girl was oh so damn beautiful
So don't even question me about what you did wrong

Too many times you've used the same excuse
And too many times I've given you my heart to bruise
Too many times I let it slip, now I'm cutting you loose
No more tears, no more fake apologies
So go and take it, take it
Don't bother, baby
Don't even fake it, fake it
I've had enough

Never again will you see me heartbroken
Never again will the truth go unspoken
Cause you won't get another chance with me
Yeah, you won't get another chance with me
It ain't happening, go find another fool
Love her for a while, then use her like a tool
Cause you won't get another chance with me
Yeah, you won't get another chance with me

Just another day in the life of you
Did you think that I was only born yesterday?
You shower me with excuses so you can remain untrue
Just another cover-up so that you can have your way
You're just oh so damn annoying
Knowing that we were so close and yet so far
Your games are just oh so damn boring
Tired of trying to change everything that you are

Too many times you've used the same excuse
And too many times I've given you my heart to bruise
Too many times I let it slip, now I'm cutting you loose
No more tears, no more fake apologies
So go and take it, take it
Don't bother, baby
Don't even fake it, fake it
I've had enough

I'm waving goodbye and I'm wearing a smile
Happy to walk away from all your drama
Had hopes that we could have lasted a while
And you know what they say about karma
So I hope you're ready for it to come
And no, I don't intend on remaining friends
So once everything's said and done
Was it all worth it in the end?

Too many times you've used the same excuse
And too many times I've given you my heart to bruise
Too many times I let it slip, now I'm cutting you loose
No more tears, no more fake apologies
So go and take it, take it
Don't bother, baby
Don't even fake it, fake it
I've had enough

Never again will you see me heartbroken
Never again will the truth go unspoken
Cause you won't get another chance with me
Yeah, you won't get another chance with me
It ain't happening, go find another fool
Love her for a while, then use her like a tool
Cause you won't get another chance with me
Yeah, you won't get another chance with me

So go and take it, take it
Don't bother, baby
Don't even fake it, fake it

SOUND

Opening with light piano keys and xylophone for its thirty second intro, "Nothing Less Than Perfection" soon blasts into a warm blend of hypnotic-sounding electric and acoustic guitars, pounding drums and soft croons from Nadia in the background. For a fairly depressing song subject, sonically, it manages to become a euphoric and feel-good track, that although contrasts with the lyrics, strangely works and sees that there's light at the end of the tunnel, despite any of Nadia's past problems that she's dealt with. With its catchy and memorable melody that's bound to get stuck in your head for days, Nadia hopes to prove that she's not just a one-trick pony as she experiments with many sounds throughout the album. "Nothing Less Than Perfection" was the third overall single, and first official single (without including buzz singles) from the album.

COMMENTS

"'Nothing Less Than Perfection' holds a special place in my heart, and thank god I decided to keep writing for the album, because this was one of the final songs that I wrote, and it managed to quickly become one of my favourites. I had a past relationship with a guy who wasn't really supportive when I told him that I had bipolar disorder, like the song explains, he practically ran off as he had his own issues and whatever, he didn't want to have to deal with any of mine, he wanted me to be perfect for him, so he didn't have to worry about anyone but himself. It was a rough time for me, obviously I had to deal with it on my own as he wasn't there, but I managed to deal with it, and thankfully everything is under control now. I also compare the relationship to my current one in the song, and see how much better off I am, so it's not all doom and gloom, wooo."

UserPostedImage

A girl with her own problems was just too much to ask for
Sorry, honey, did the plan of a simple life not work out?
Cause the moment the words were spoken from my lips
Your eyes set for the door, a full suitcase in hand
You've got enough troubles already in your life
And you just weren't willing to deal with mine

And I knew from then, I was already better off
Because I knew I could fight my mind alone
I didn't need you to hold my hand to tell me it'd be alright
Cause I didn't even get hopes up on it happening
You were a cold hearted lover, barely that
I guess I was just someone other than someone you wanted

I was once someone you wanted to know
Then when tragedy hit and I let you know
You suddenly no longer wanted to know
No, no, you just didn't wanna know

I'll get by, all I need is these pills that I feed on
One by one, my problems will slowly slip away
To the back of my head, I'll hide them away in darkness
One by one to the back of my head, and I swallow them down
They do me more good than you ever could
And believe me, if I could change things, I would

Don't worry about the guilt, I don't regret a thing
They say that everything happens for a reason
And I've found a man who loves me despite it all
And that's just something you could never do
So baby, don't question at night why you left me
Cause you did us both a favour

When things got tough, you just broke down
I didn't wanna be the one to carry the weight for both of us
And I bet what I have now is what you wish you had
You're just too weak, and I know you're gonna struggle
Babe, go cry those tears and suck it up
Life's a bitch to all the rest of us

I was once someone you wanted to know
Then when tragedy hit and I let you know
You suddenly no longer wanted to know
No, no, you just didn't wanna know

I'll get by, all I need is these pills that I feed on
One by one, my problems will slowly slip away
To the back of my head, I'll hide them away in darkness
One by one to the back of my head, and I swallow them down
They do me more good than you ever could
And believe me, if I could change things, I would

Good luck trying to find someone who's perfect
I know I couldn't be the one who fulfilled that
Cause just when you think you've found perfection
You'll soon see the cracks that start to appear
Cause didn't your mama tell you, none of us are perfect
And you should take a look closer to home
Yeah, that's the only way that you're gonna know
Once you look into the mirror and stare into your eyes
Them cracks all appear, one right after the other
And now do you wish you had me back?

I'll get by, all I need is these pills that I feed on
One by one, my problems will slowly slip away
To the back of my head, I'll hide them away in darkness
One by one to the back of my head, and I swallow them down
They do me more good than you ever could
And believe me, if I could change things, I would

Little miss unperfect, always misunderstood
Now, do you wish you had me back for good?

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

"Hooked on Love" is a simplistic, sultry R&B slow-jam that opens with light piano notes and synths, with soft breaths from Nadia that are heard faintly in the background, opening with the line "Honey, put that cigarette out", Nadia's voice sounding gentle, yet demanding. Following on from in-your-face rock tracks and the dance anthem "Shadow", it's a much needed more relaxed track that keeps its slow, sensual pace throughout the whole song. Finishing the song with "And I don't even think we care / If we're late for work...", linking perfectly into next song "One of Those Days".

COMMENTS

"The first of the two more seductive songs on the album is 'Hooked on Love', a more relaxed track that's made to just put on in the background for you to simply unwind to, or get crazy to, hey, I don't judge! I'm not very open when it comes to saying why I wrote certain tracks, or who I wrote them about, but I think it's pretty obvious who inspired these two songs on the record. I wrote this just a short while after me and Ryan had gone through a slight rough patch, we made up one night when he came to mine, we had a big award show the next day, I was worrying I was gonna look like some sort of hot mess on the red carpet, but part of me didn't care at the time, and so the night passed by... that's all I'm saying, hahaha."

Honey, put that cigarette out
Come on over, and kiss my lips
You taste so sickly sweet
But I'd never let you go to waste
You taste even better than I last remember
Let's go and turn the radio off
Let's make some music of our own

It's not even your birthday
But let's blow out the candles, I've got a surprise
We're two wanderers lurking in the dark
Reaching our hands out for one another
Steam up the windows, you call me a nympho
You'd think tomorrow wouldn't come
The way I'm so eager, nothing's tasted sweeter

Cause there's no way I'd let this night
Just pass us by and go to waste
Yeah, baby, I wouldn't put up a fight
Just give me what I want, alright

I could ask the cameras in the morning not to judge me
Cause if I'm not a pretty picture, please don't blame me
But I just can't get enough of that guy
He's the one who's been turning me nocturnal
But I'll be happy to take the blame
Yeah, we don't have to be ashamed
We're just hopelessly hooked on love

Honey, what are you thinking about?
I've got just the slightest idea
So don't try to give me that look
I know you're thinking the same
So go and take your t-shirt off
Don't make me do it myself

I'll admit, I've got a dirty mind
Sometimes I don't let everything spill out of it
Sometimes I'm willing to make an exception
If that time was now, would you tell me off?
Would you let me show it off?
I'm feeling pretty crazy and so damn careless
I could go all night, I'm feeling so damn restless

Cause there's no way I'd let this night
Just pass us by and go to waste
Yeah, baby, I wouldn't put up a fight
Just give me what I want, alright

I could ask the cameras in the morning not to judge me
Cause if I'm not a pretty picture, please don't blame me
But I just can't get enough of that guy
He's the one who's been turning me nocturnal
But I'll be happy to take the blame
Yeah, we don't have to be ashamed
We're just hopelessly hooked on love

I apologise when I roll you over at four in the morning
With your tired eyes that I can always make come alive
There's always a beast waiting to be tamed
Under the covers, me and you, we become infernal
I can't help it if I want you more...

I love you, baby, let me prove it
I can't deny the way you get me off
I love how you always like to show me off
So let me show you how I can set you off

Cause there's no way I'd let this night
Just pass us by and go to waste
Yeah, baby, I wouldn't put up a fight
Just give me what I want, alright

I could ask the cameras in the morning not to judge me
Cause if I'm not a pretty picture, please don't blame me
But I just can't get enough of that guy
He's the one who's been turning me nocturnal
But I'll be happy to take the blame
Yeah, we don't have to be ashamed
We're just hopelessly hooked on love

And I don't even think we care
If we're late for work...

SOUND

"One of Those Days" is a mid-tempo blues-inspired track, opening with the sound of rain falling, before fading into the first line "Rain pouring down outside, we've got the curtains drawn", accompanied with playful blues guitar chords and a faint drum beat. Nadia's vocals sound sexy, her voice alone doing a good job on enticing the listener, as she describes the steamy morning routine between her and her lover. Building into the chorus where Nadia's vocals become louder and more powerful, she remains sounding passionate. The song later features a break that features a saxophone solo for around half a minute, before moving into the final chorus.

COMMENTS

"After the ending line of 'Hooked on Love', it perfectly fits into this next track, 'One of Those Days', which is also my new single. I wanted to kinda give the impression that these two people are so addicted to each other, they're going from the night to the morning, and then deciding that they're still not finished with each other and then decide not go to work, so they can finish up, without even caring if they're gonna get fired or not. Pretty heated, I know! I don't think I need to spell out what they're doing though, and if you don't know, then you're too young to be listening in the first place."

Rain pouring down outside, we've got the curtains drawn
Might be late for work, but my mind's only set on you
Quater to nine, we've been at it since the break of dawn
Might not even leave the house, we've got something else to do
Clothes on for work, only for us to take them off once more
So let me loosen your tie, unbutton your shirt
We've lost a lot of time that we've gotta make up for
Taking off my heels, loosen up my skirt
Only thing left to do is to lock the door

Every piece of clothing I slide on, you slide me back out of it
Looks like neither one of us are leaving the house today
This ain't the first time this has happened
I can gurantee you I'll be fired tomorrow
Somehow, I couldn't care less about everything else
Because nothing compares, no nothing compares
To a morning with you

And it's just one of those days
Where all I wanna do is get some more of your loving
And I just wanna disappear into nothing
Just so I can get lost in you
And it's just one of those days
Where all I wanna do is cling to you and breathe you in
My lips meeting your skin
Turning into our sweetest sin
And it's just one of those days

Feels like we've just set ourselves back into rewind
Cause I could've sworn we did this last night
Looks like we're still stuck on the day behind
And I can't even face the morning light
Gliding my fingers through your morning hair
There's only one thing that we're putting the effort into
We haven't even gotta worry about what to wear
You're the only boss who I've gotta get to
And I'm leaving all the rest up to you

Every piece of clothing I slide on, you slide me back out of it
Looks like neither one of us are leaving the house today
This ain't the first time this has happened
I can gurantee you I'll be fired tomorrow
Somehow, I couldn't care less about everything else
Because nothing compares, no nothing compares
To a morning with you

And it's just one of those days
Where all I wanna do is get some more of your loving
And I just wanna disappear into nothing
Just so I can get lost in you
And it's just one of those days
Where all I wanna do is cling to you and breathe you in
My lips meeting your skin
Turning into our sweetest sin
And it's just one of those days

Cold outside, we've got the fire burning
In your arms, you've got me yearning
Grip me tighter and the world falls away
With you is a place I wanna stay
And it's just one of those days...

Every piece of clothing I slide on, you slide me back out of it
Looks like neither one of us are leaving the house today
This ain't the first time this has happened
I can gurantee you I'll be fired tomorrow
Somehow, I couldn't care less about everything else

Amy: Woah, It's only January and this year in music has already hit it's peak with this. Seriously this is just incredible and I wouldn't be surprised if it was the best album of 2012, amazing.

OOC: Amazing work, the youtube/vevo graphics are awesome as are the lyrics :)

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

Opening with gentle acoustic guitar that contrasts with upbeat violins throughout the first verse and pre-chorus, "Thin Line Between Love & Hate" is easily one of the more gentle, yet dramatic songs on the album. The first chorus may fool you into thinking there's zero build-up due to having nothing but a light piano backing, but with the storming, powerful drums that kick in the second time round, mixed with Nadia's strong, angry vocals, that thought soon changes.

COMMENTS

"This was one of the last tracks I wrote for the record and it's definitely an honest song, I really wasn't planning on holding back on the stuff I wanted to write about, so just putting it out there was really the best way to go about it. I'm sure we've all had rough times with someone who we thought we could trust, and then you begin to question your feelings for that person, before finally dealing with it and deciding whether you forgive them or let them go and move on from it. I had to get my angry voice on for this one, so here you have it, proof that I can be a little feisty when I want to be!"

He's gotta damn good reason to look the way he does
A coldness in his eyes, because
He couldn't wait those few months, no
Without a word, he knows I already know
And baby, how I wish you'd just drop dead
For causing all these tears that I shed

I never looked at any other man
And yet you couldn't wait to run and jump
Into all this mess that you've caused
Don't tell me to stop crying
I want you to see what you've done to me
Yeah, you didn't think about what you'd do to me

So, if I tell myself I hate you fifty times over
Will I start to believe it?
And if I tell you that we're over
Will I really mean it?
I just don't know what to think
Just put something strong in my drink
Cause I don't even know
If I hate you, or love you

I know you're hurting when you see me cry
Should we start to say goodbye?
You're not aching in the slightest compared to me
But did you even think about me?
In a way, I just want you out of my face
But the memories of you are too hard to erase

I never looked at any other man
And yet you couldn't wait to run and jump
Into all this mess that you've caused
Don't tell me to stop crying
I want you to see what you've done to me
Yeah, you didn't think about what you'd do to me

So, if I tell myself I hate you fifty times over
Will I start to believe it?
And if I tell you that we're over
Will I really mean it?
I just don't know what to think
Just put something strong in my drink
Cause I don't even know
If I hate you, or love you

I ache to kiss your lips, it's been a while
I tried my best not to, call me foolish
But I missed you, I'm not gonna lie
I can see sorrow in your eyes
The hate I once had just seemed to disappear
I guess you can put that down to your charm
You're a lucky, lucky man, don't blow this chance
Cause I've still got faith in us
Yeah, I've just gotta let all the drama go
Cause once the bullet fires from the gun
I've gotta realise that situations like these can't be undone

So, if I tell myself I hate you fifty times over
Will I start to believe it?
And if I tell you that we're over
Will I really mean it?
I just don't know what to think
Just put something strong in my drink
Oh, baby, don't you know
That I just can't stop loving you

All songs written by Nadia Berry.

SOUND

Beginning with gloomy organs, it's clear that "Darkest Hour" is far from being the most upbeat on the record, Nadia singing in a quiet, breathy voice for opening line "How do you cope when the clouds block out the sun?", her vocals having a raw feel to them, away from any studio trickery. Sounding as if she's fighting to not break down into tears mid-song, "Darkest Hour" is for sure the most emotional on the record. Distorted guitars kick in for the chorus, giving the song a much needed burst of life, whilst her imperfect vocals manage to contribute even more to the song, giving it an honest and rough feel.

COMMENTS

"Admittedly, I think there's many flaws in this song, the lyrics, the vocals, it's far from perfect, and only just about made the record. It was actually one of the very first songs I wrote, and I was just getting the feel of writing my own material again, it took some time to get really into it and come up with better stuff. I don't know, I guess I had a weak spot for this song. The fact that it played a major part in deciding what direction I wanted to go in for the album, something more honest and stripped back, was what made me feel the need to keep it."

How do you cope when the clouds block out the sun?
Standing alone in the dark, lurking in the shadows
How do you cope when the bullet shoots from the gun?
Becoming the prey to the darkness, I'm falling below
I'm running towards the light that runs from me
Reaching out for a hand that constantly pulls away
Chasing after something that refuses to set me free
Losing sight of hope when everything fades to grey

I can't hide that I'm just a fragile girl
And I'm stuck living in a tainted world
I can't hide that I'm not scared
I'm sick of ending up alone
Alone in this messed up world

Thought I could put my trust in you, faith in you
Stupid enough to think you were the one I could cling to
I gave you everything I had, got nothing in return
Left with a shadow for a friend, one hard lesson to learn
So many memories we had together that I wanna erase
Whatever did I do to make you throw my love back in my face?
Sometimes a brave face ain't enough to face all the pain
Whatever did I do to make you not feel the same?
Something so, so sweet, turned so damn sour
Whatever did I do to you to deserve my darkest hour?

I'm stuck in the deep end, are you gonna save me from drowning?
Hanging on by a thread, I'm struggling and wearing thin
All these tears I'm crying, all this wine I'm downing
So just for a moment, I'll be able to escape from my own skin
Any way's fine if I can manage to forget about reality for a moment
My mind's a cage, I'm hopelessly trapped in my own hell
I desperately need an escape away from all the mental torment
So don't shake me out of this intoxicated spell

How many times is it possible to be knocked down?
Cause I'm struggling to find the strength to stand once more
How many times is it possible to be messed around?
Cause I'm struggling to have my faith in love restored
