Epiphany

Epiphany is the second studio album by American-Canadian hip hop duo Rum & Coke . The album is to be released on November 1st, 2013, worldwide by Tric-Jam Records , a sub-label of Studio60 Records . Work on the record began in 2012 and continued through 2013 . As one of only a few producers , Rum enlisted collaborators including K-Pop duo Mi•Mi , Indie Rock/Folk/Pop artist Yasmine Kiambang and rapper Matt Young to appear as guest appearances on the album . The album's production was handled by only three producers ; NinaT ( Nina Tarantino ; Rum ) , inZane ( Zane Anoshkin ; Zayne ) and Flame 1&2 ( Damon & Eden Ale ) .

Epiphany was supported by the three successful singles , " Mirror ", " Dependent " , and " Money Makes Fools " . The future singles , post album , have not been announced just yet , but Rum & Coke have assured press that there will definitely be a couple of singles off of the album . Rum & Coke also toured with Destinee&Adele up until August 8, 2013 and went on the No Venues Tour and are planning to leave early on October 30th , 2013 .

A few weeks before its release , Epiphany was sent to selected critics for review to use as somewhat of a promotion for the album . The feedback that was givien was extraordinary , even though the only reviews Rum & Coke's team released was for the production and music and not actually the songs , vocals , lyrics or ect. " We were able to count the number of bad reviews on one hand . Can you believe that shit ? " Says an excited Rum . The production of the album was so highly acclaimed , that the critics are calling NinaT , inZane and Flame 1&2 , ' The Beethoven's of Hip Hop ' . " It seems irrational that only 3 producers work on 1 album , when on average , artists with the same resources could have had about 10 , but it actually came out better than a lot of albums with many producers . Things can get confusing and all over the place with a lot of them and at the same time , things can get repetitive with just a few , but Rum & Coke's producers , NinaT , inZane and Flame 1&2 knew exactly what they were doing with this album's production . "

Background

While touring the United States to support Destinee&Adele , Rum & Coke announced in an interview that they have been working on their second album since they were done with their first . On May 1st , they released 7 Deadly Sins an E.P that "announced" the PBR&B move they were joining with their music , instead of just that "pure" Hip Hop and R&B sound they had on their first studio album , Venom & versace .

" After Venom & Versace , we wanted to do something different . You know , we wanted to be innovative and all , so we did some research and just went with what no one was reallly doing . That's how we found PBR&B . It literally had like ... 5 paragraphs on Wikipedia and so we know that it didn't have much exposure . Then we learned more about it and it literally combined all the genres we loved . Me and Rum are really big music fans and we listen to practically everything . We fell in love with ti and when we started to make PBR&B music , we couldn't stop . That's why we were working on our second album right after the first and even now we are working on an E.P for Epiphany and even a potential third album . We just can't slow down . " - Airemese Smith (Coke)

On June 17, 2013, Epiphany was announced through a Youtube video that was uploaded by Rum & Coke's official Youtube . It was a video as an album trailer and featured a preview of the title track Epiphany . Within 30 minutes , the video received approximately 600,000 views . It automatically implied that the album was going to be focused on a more serous topic than Venom & Versace and even started a few rumors of the album being based against a few conspiracies , which were actually later confirmed by Rum & Coke in an interview with UrbanHipHop , a magazine about the Urban community and Hip Hop music . " It is a thing effecting all of our lives , tremendously , and we do things like label it under a conspiracy , and since both Rum and I have strong feelings about it , and have already been making songs about it over the years , we decided to just ... make it a topic , well an album if you will . " Coke told them . They later explained the difference between Venom & Versace and Epiphany in the same interview saying,

" Well , it's our sophomore album and it's going to be a way different sound from Venom & Versace . There isn't a lot of sped up songs , most of them give off that perfect PBR&B vibe , you know , Hip Hop with a heavy influenced rock beat ... well more of an indie rock beat . Zane , Eden , Damon and I combined our skills and created just that . All the tracks turned out great , like to the point where we are making all the tracks that didn't get picked , bonus tracks . " - Nina Tarantino (Rum)

" Yep , we are beyond excited for this next album . Like Rum said , it is a different sound from Venom & Versace and a different sound from 7 Deadly Sins . We kind of took the elements that people liked from those 2 and mashed them together . I mean we really believe this is going to be something big , because this will showcase , you know , the true Rum & Coke ... not just that but Nina & Aire . That is what this album will showcase for us , and we just know that people would love it . " - Airemese Smith (Coke)

and in another interview described the difference between the topics .

" Venom & Versace as our debut album was our ' WE MADE IT !!! ' albums . The songs were based on the title . The Venom was about our demeanor getting meaner due to our success and the Versace was about us making it , basically our boast songs . The whole thing was a success and it sold millions of copies , but still we wanted to do something different from every one else in the game and so now we have Epiphany . It is based on all the "hidden" problems of this world . Big transition right ? Haha , but yeah , we took that big step and we are no longer what we were when we first got on the scene .[/i] " - Nina Tarantino (Rum)

On August 1st, 2013 Rum & Coke confirmed that the album was all done and ready for release . They planned to release just one more single before giving out any release dates . That's exactly what was planned , until the single that was supposed to be released , Money Makes Fools , wasn't released on the 12th of August and ended up being released on August 23rd , 2013 as a free single . At first Rum & Coke's team took the blame for it . Then on September 2nd , Rum & Coke got news that iTunes wasn't going to release Epiphany on September 11th , 2013 , but instead a 10 day span . Rum & Coke demanded that they release it on just 1 date , which was the one they picked , but still iTunes refused and didn't release it at all . On October 20th , 2013 , everything was cleared after a month of a heated lawsuit . What the judge thought was best is that iTunes pays for all the money that Rum & Coke could have made off of Money Makes Fools , after coming to a decision that it was iTunes fault for the delay , and everything else was settled between iTunes and Rum & Coke privately , the outcome being that they have agreed to release it on November 1st , 2013 . Rumors that are going around says that iTunes paid the 2 off and agreed to releasing Epiphany after they realized how good of a case Rum & Coke had on them .

Artwork

On July 8th, 2013, Rum & Coke revealed the album's cover artwork was designed to clash Rum & Coke's epiphany of the world they live in in on e picture . To anybody it may not look like anything , but when you put thought into it , it says a lot . Naturally it's Rum posing in possibly a limelight , but the "limelight" background is the Earth and you can even see stars . The whole thing is blue and you see pink patches spread out over it , like how the green patches spread out over the Earth . Rum actually stands for both of them and the pose is set up to where the face looks like it's looking down at the title but at the same time the eyes are closed and then standing in front of "the world" .

" The artwork was just a small example of how the simplest things in our world , could be so much more . That's why we had it look so simple and "cheap" . We were making a point . That pretty much captured the whole album in just one picture ." - Photo editing team

Conspiracy article

This part was taken from the infamous article that has caught lots of attention , " Rum & Coke : Killuminatist ? " off of landoftheenslaved.tumblr.com , which is a blog on tumblr that claims to uncover a lot of the corruptness going on in America .

I honestly have to say that this is something that kind of struck me out of the blue . I mean just with all the corruptness going on in today's music business ... just the world , that I didn't expect anyone to do this . M.J. was the last to attempt ... and that catastrophically ended 2009 ... and a trail around it still remains today . I seriously couldn't believe it for a minute but it is true . After doing some extensive research , it became quite evident that this whole album is anti-NWO and anti-government . I mean just think about it . The name of the album is epiphany . A sudden realization of reality . It was almost named Reverie , which means to pleasantly daydream . Now why would these be the potential names of an album , clearly about freedom just based off of the tracklist ? What is it that Rum & Coke are trying to make us realize ? What are we day dreaming about ?
Here is what rose my suspicions . The first two singles that were released was a song about depression ( I guess ? ) , and a love song . Apparently , they are both associated with an epiphany , because you are realizing something you probably didn't know or tried to hide from . And I have to say , it's a smart method to release all of the irrelevant tracks first , so that the album can take the audience by surprise and go in a whole different direction . That succeeded when out of nowhere the album trailer came out with the title track preview showing exactly what the album was about to be about .
Basically , we know that both of them descend of roots that are in a very controversial place right now . Nina was an actual illegal immigrant from Cuba when her family escaped to Canada at the age of 13 , and before anyone realized she moved to America with Airemese and became and American citizen . Airemese's grandfather was born in Zimbabwe and became fortunate enough to move his family to Canada . That part of her family in Canada grew up upper middle class after her granddad started a business from scratch , that is still successfully ran by her father today . So the video starts off with the controversy going on in those countries , showing the corruptness world wide and then fades to black as Nina says , " Wake Up . " From what ? The video goes on goes to show personal problems and someone just about to give up on life as their soul or conscience telling them to fight through it . The most important part is the lyrics though . Especially the intro . It has such a deep meaning and it is all evidence really needed .

What happens when life breaks down? When there's systemic contradiction?
It's projecting , self-justifying , excusing , accusing , denying , well I don't have a problem
There's nothing wrong with me ...
So if it's not me , it must be you , or it must be them, or it must be him
Trouble doesn't come from nowhere
Your weakness is a perfect match !

You have to really pay attention to these lyrics . The first man speaking is asking what happens when the world goes wrong ... which is a juxtaposition to all the chaos going in the video , ( Which was directed and edited by Airemese ) , Rum & Coke trying to show us that it already has begun , and moving on in the video , showing all the personal problems , making it clear that you don't really have a back up plan ... you can't even handle your own life , how can you handle this ? The next man that speaks going back to the irrelevance , but at the same time , when you really think about it , is still on the topic . What you get out of that thought is him explaining how we like to hide from something like a corrupt government by labeling it a ' conspiracy ' . Then the next 2 men go on kind of wraps it up . The first one saying this didn't come from nowhere ... poverty doesn't just strike a country out of nowhere . War isn't just in certain countries just because . Problems like this were created , if you will . And the last man ends of almost in a scolding tone , " Your weakness is a perfect match ! " Why would something be said in a scolding tone ? Would it be a way of surfacing that you should have known by now that you were being observed so that it would be easy to get you on your knee's at times like these ? Just then Nina says " Wake Up . " Do I have to go on ? That was enough evidence right there to tell you what this album was going to be about . Especially noting that this is the 1st actual track other than the intro AND the title track of the album .
If you still need more evidence , there was a tweet Coke sent out , showing I'm going to guess the hook of Painted Faces . Just read them :

dDietCokeb : But yo ... Who do you think you've fooled ?

dDietCokeb : Who do you think I am ?

dDietCokeb : I've caught you on all your bull ...

dDietCokeb : And to expose it , Im determined .

dDietCokeb : Cause Im aware .... of #PaintedFaces #Single...? #9|?? #Rum&Coke

Those lyrics themselves were self explanatory , but to point it out even more when they performed the song at the Goldies . here's the video of the whole thing right here :

The lyrics are obviously based on the governments most common techniques to get everybody on their knees and keep them distracted from the real corruptness . Something like , " Hey ! We're the richest economy in the world but ... err ... you guys are all broke ! How ? Well the ceiling is falling ... the White House is off the cliff ... something like that . Here , check the binders ! That's what they say ! It's uhmm ... The terrorists ... China ... YES ! It's China's fault . " But I'll get more into that when I individually evaluate this song , which is what I'm going to do for every song I believe has a meaning to it .
Who knows , I could be wrong about this whole thing ... But I could be right .

Album : Epiphany
Track : Illusions (Interlude)
Artist : Rum & Coke
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Airemese Smith , Nina Tarantino
Produced by : inZane
Length : 0:46

Illusions starts off with nothing but the sound of Coke's tranquil , yet somewhat alerting voice . | I've come to terms with the fact that nothing is what it seems ... | Then right away , music begins to fade into the background of the track as a man begins to talk . His voice is deep and also tranquil , yet alerting , making him perfect for the part . The music in the background is barely heard , yet adds a lot to the interlude . it gives off a creepy feel if heard by itself , but with the man's talking , makes you feel like you have just realized something . One way to explain this is that when he begins to list a few things people always complain about when talking about themselves , like how they need to be this instead of what they are , the volume of the background music turns up , as well as gets faster as he continues the little lecture and once he gets to the line right before Rum interrupts and whispers | Wake up from your reverie . | , the music stops and the last line is said with nothing accompanying it , almost ending in an echo , really drilling it in the listener's head . | Remember that . |

I've come to terms with the fact that nothing is what it seems ...
What you've been taught is that who you are isn't quite good enough
You know you need to be slightly more than , bigger than , brighter than , smarter than , slimmer than , fatter than , there's always something you need to improve
It's just some idea that sometime in the future we just might be able to ameliorate the way we live
Starting with smalls things like who you want to be ...
But never will they mention the goal is to be who they want you to be
They know what's best , right ?
You won't gain anything until you've lost something ...
Wake up from your reverie .
Remember that .

Music Description
Fear Not starts off with a clip of the track , ' Epiphany ' . It starts off with the second part of the bridge where Coke is singing in a high falsetto , childish like voice over the original beat . This goes on until she makes it all the way to the end but then cuts off just as her voices break into harmony with Rum's and gets interrupted by a hip hop beat . The hip op beat plays out for a little while until once again you hear Rum & Coke's voices break out into harmony . Just then that's when Rum comes in wrapping , in a soft , almost whisper tone . It's soothing as she raps , and her voice is heard over the beats . Her lyrics are quite blatant , meaning exactly what they say and they don't need much explanation . All you need to know is what the meaning is in the track , ' Epiphany ' and everything would make sense . After she is done with her verse , Coke comes back in with a clip from Epiphany , going back to the beat in that track and sings the whole bridge and once again gets cuts off where Rum & Coke harmonizes . The hip hop beat comes back and it plays out once again , in a very similar beat from the last verse . Rum & Coke harmonizes again and Rum begins to rap the second verse , still in her soothing , whisper tone . But this time , Rum gets cut off right before Coke comes back in with the bridge from , ' Epiphany ' . The hip hop beat combines with the regular beat from , ' Epiphany ' and it doesn't get cut off this time . It lets the part where Rum & coke harmonize play out and then moves on to where Rum says/sings the last part and Coke going | You just have to face your epiphany . | in a high pitch as the music fades out .

[Intro]
They say you only see , exactly what you choose ...
That's why you're seeing
The optical illusions
That you blindly concurred to ...

Ohh ...

[ Verse 1 ]
In case we die , wouldn't you want to know the truth ?
Wouldn't you want to know all the lies that have been told to you ?
All the secrets that have been kept from you ...
And the irony that they were kept by you ?

In case we die , wouldn't you like to see above what they see ?
Wouldn't that degrade the meaning of the ' elite ' ?
Wouldn't you like to know how they think ...
And have what they didn't ... the true epiphany ?

[Hook]
But just in case you died , at least you followed all the rules ...
Working 9 to 5 ,
Got married on the side ,
Did everything they wanted you to .
They say you only see , exactly what you choose ...
That's why you're seeing
The optical illusions
That you blindly concurred to ...

Ohh ...

[Verse 2]
They've been told lies to , too .
Taking the orders to tell the lies to you
Put aside greed , there's no way they know the truth
The ultimate puppets do nothing but what the puppeteer tells them to .

In case we die , at least you know how I feel
There's nothing I'm afraid to expose and unveil
Nothing to hide , only option is to keep it real .
But that's hard to do when you don't fucking listen
So ...
Fuck the beat and pay attention
Because in case we die , atleast you'll know the ...

[Hook]
But just in case you died , at least you followed all the rules ...
Working 9 to 5 ,
Got married on the side ,
Did everything they wanted you to .
They say you only see , exactly what you choose ...
That's why you're seeing
The optical illusions
That you blindly concurred to ...

Ohh ...

[Outro]
But fear not ... I got you , always .
Fear not ... I'm your soul and I'll never fade ...
Fear not ...

You just have to face your epiphany .

Description of Music/Lyrics
The song starts off with an intro of 4 men talking . The 4 are well known public speakers from Canada . The intro starts with the first man asking what happens when things get bad . Do you have a back up plan ? The next man sounds way more intense than the first . He is explaining what it is like and what you do when you try and hide away from an epiphany . When you try to hide away from a problem , instead of just facing it . Explaining that we tend to blame it on the next person , trying to make it seem like its not really your problem , it's theirs . The third speaker says firmly but softly , trouble doesn't come from nowhere . Giving off the feeling that this problem has been staring you in the face this whole time ... where have you been ? And the last one almost in a scolding way says " Your weakness is a perfect match ! " , finishing off the whole speech . After that last comment the whole intro comes together . It summarizes to : You have no way out and trying to hide from it won't help . It has been there this whole time , molding into your mindset making it even harder for you to face it and fight through it . While you hear them you can hear Coke vocalizing in the background and as soon as the intro is done Rum softly says | Wake up | which adds on saying stop hiding and just face it . That's just when Coke starts to sing the first verse . She begins to narrate a story of someone who has had a troubled life and still managed to live through it and be happy , but lately it has been getting out of hand and on top of that everybody has their own problems and doesn't care and help each other out like they used to , which in times like these is when we are supposed to help each other out and stick together . So it has been like this for a while and she finally is seeing that things were always bad , which she already knew , just she didn't know exactly how bad . Coke melodiously sings this in a calm but strong tone . Though she is singing very simplistic it shows off the work ethic of her voice very well . Especially when she moves on to the second verse , switching from high to low throughout it . Coke goes on to somewhat ' comment ' on the story she just told , saying how she doesn't get it and continues . Once the second verse ends , Coke's voice begins to sing in a high ' falsetto ' . This new ' falsetto ' , that she is just now beginning to use in ' Epiphany ' is in a high pitch , but to the point where it almost sounds child like . When the bridge is over , Rum & Coke's voice breaks into harmony again and Rum comes in saying/singing in a soft voice , Fear not | I got you always | She continues the rest of the song in the same voice about 4 times and Coke finishes off singing the last part in a very high pitch . The music then fades off until you can't hear it anymore .

[Verse 1]
Tryna live your life , but this is getting hard .
Everybody's troubled and it's tearing us apart .
The struggle is real and now it's staring you in the face .
A whole bunch of people call it an epiphany ...

( An epiphany , an epiphany )
A whole bunch of people call it an epiphany ...
( An epiphany , an epiphany )
Ooh ...

[Verse 2]
But I don't understand how you could be so baffled ,
Just another typical bitch in denial .
You know this ain't where we're supposed to be ,
But you're being normal , so you must be free ...

( Must be free , must be free )
Do you even know what that means ?
( What that means , what that means )
No ...

But just in case you died , at least you followed all the rules ...
Working 9 to 5 ,
Got married on the side ,
Did everything they wanted you to .
They say you only see , exactly what you choose ...
That's why you're seeing
The optical illusions
That you blindly concurred to ...

Ooh ...

[Hook]
But fear not ... I got you , always .
Fear not ... I'm your soul and I'll never fade ...
Fear not ...

You just have to face your epiphany .

Album : Epiphany
Track : Failed Escape
Artist :
( Rum & ) Coke
Genre : PBR&B
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Airemese Smith , Nina Tarantino
Produced by : NinaT
Length : 3:38

Failed Escape off the back gives off a dark feeling with just the intro of the beat . That's pretty much because the meaning of the song is dark but is overlooked by the way Coke sings it . Her voice stays almost one tone , with very light and cut throat riffs . Nobody has ever heard Coke sing like this , as this is the first time in the album she starts to sing in this ' alternate voice ' . The whole song gives off a laid back feel when Coke continues with these vocals , and the beat nearly stays the same throughout the whole song . You would think that would get boring , but if you actually sit and pay attention , the deep lyrics would really take some time to give thought about , making references to Alice In Wonderland , which is a movie full of mind twisters for kids and adults , and making references to The Wizard of Oz , also a movie full of mind twisters for kids and adults . Throughout the song she continues to figuratively call herself a mannequin , trying to deny her feelings of confusion , guilt and stress . The song overall is about her daydreaming about ... her daydreams . Contemplating , if you will . What you would notice in the song is that the references she makes to the 2 famous movies , are movies about 2 little girls in a daydream or the french term Rum & Coke have been using a lot lately , reverie , which means to pleasantly daydream or be caught up in one's idol thoughts . It's kind of strange that she referenced the two movies in a song about trapping yourself when fame gets the best of your life . What does Alice and Dorothy have to do with anybody famous ? What's so bad about fame that the person Coke writes about feels they have to consider themselves an emotionless item , a mannequin ? And most of all , why is this girl just sitting in a cage she could easily escape from ? Those questions and other questions you have about the lyrics circle your brain as they get accompanied by the dark beat and beautiful voice , making this song a masterpiece .

Evaluation
OOC : Again , you don't have to read this part . Read at you own risk , though e.e

[Verse 1]
Fame is a cage , without a key
Without a lock , escape if you please
Or you could just ... sail away ...
A reverie , a reverie
Did you hear the white rabbit call my name ?
It's calling my name

[Pre-Hook]
... Or is it just me ?
I cannot tell
Sometimes I loose myself
It really doesn't make much sense
It's just a failed ....
Escape

[Hook]
Cause I can't face the Hell
I wasn't made for this
No human is
But I was a human
Now I'm a mannequin

Trapped in this cage,
Feeling ... lonely with no hopes of escape
But that's not the case ... Nay .
Sitting in this cage,
Feeling ... absolutely nothing .
Dissocia...
-ted

[Verse 2:]
Familiar zone , forgetting my wrongs
My conscious is ' clear ' , but my shoes have gone
Somewhere over ... the rainbow
Yellow Brick Road , Yellow Brick Road
To follow it was what I was told
So I do as I'm told
... But I still don't know

[Bridge]
I think I've been here , once before , I'm ..
Sure I've been down this road , oh...
I guess that's kinda strange
Kinda-kinda strange
I-I guess that's strange

[Hook]
Sometimes I loose myself ...
I wasn't made for this
No human is
But I was a human
Now I'm a mannequin

Trapped in this cage,
Feeling ... lonely with no hopes of escape
But that's not the case ... Nay .
Sitting in this cage,
Feeling ... nothing cause I'm not a human
Dissocia...

[Pre-Hook]
... Yep it's just me .
Sometimes I loose myself
Cause I can't face the Hell
It really doesn't make much sense
It's just a failed ....
Escape

Album : Epiphany
Track : But It Felt Good
Artist :
( Rum & ) Coke
Genre : PBR&B
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Airemese Smith
Produced by : NinaT and inZane
Length : 2:12

' But It Felt Good ' continues the Alice In Wonderland theme that Coke seemed to be using in the last song , ' Failed Escape ' , along with Wizard of Oz references . She uses the two as examples of reveries and uses the songs to be perceived as an a epiphany to the person that is in their ' pleasant daydream ' .

The song takes the scruffy beat in the background of ' Failed Escape ' and turns it into a beat of what you would picture if you were coming off of a spaceship as Coke starts to vocalize in the beginning of the song . Funny how NinaT and inZane created that ; a possible reference to returning to reality . The atmospheric beat fades in and out as Coke begins to sing the first verse , her voice containing a drunk ring to it as she seems to sing the lyrics happily . Random giggles fade in and out every once in a while to add an effect to the drunk sounding song . By the 5th line , a beat rolls in and by the pre-hook the whole music depends on the beat that is barely noticeable in the first verse if it wasn't for the way Aire sang the song to make it go along with the beat .

As Coke sings the pre-hook it almost sounds like there is more than one person singing , as you hear Coke's voice in different pitches and they harmonize and layer . Coke then goes onto the hook singing in a voice that almost sounds like it sails away as it gets softer as the line ends . After the 4th line , the beat stops and so does Coke's singing and her voice immediately comes back in repeating the first part of | cause | 3 times then another pause and Coke finishes the whole sentence in a relieved voice , going on to finish the rest of the song in the same voice and the background fading in and out and keeping things serene until the song ends .

The beat and vocals in ' But It felt Good ' are quite artistic . They add dramatic effects to the theme of a drunk girl fading in and out of her reverie . From the giggling to the atmospheric beat , Nina Tarantino , Airemese Smith and Zane Anoshkin have really seemed to be on point with making sure that everything about the song came together and not holding back because of the fact that it's a shorter song , but aiming to make the crowd feel like it needs to be longer .

[Verse 1]
I'm lost in my own world ... right now
Why is everything around me dancing around ?
Couldn't face reality ... not right now
Headed for the poison , my sorrows will drown
Slowly , I started rising ... off the ground
Funny , how I could see myself laying down
Giggled a little as I looked around
Followed the white rabbit , where am I now ?

[Pre-Hook]
I haven't really thought like this in a while
But I feel like depending on this drink right now
I'll just take this bottle and stretch it ...
For a mile .

[Hook]
But in case we died ...
At least I'm satisfied
Yea I may be a fiend... a fiend
The consequences slipped my mind
C-c-c-cause it felt good .
Cause it felt good ... aah ...
Cause it felt good
Cause it ... but it ...
But it felt good .

Album : Epiphany
Track : In The Moment
Artist :
( Rum & ) Coke ft. Mi•Mi
Genre : PBR&B
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nina Tarantino
Produced by : NinaT
Length : 2:32

' In The Moment ' concludes the group of reverie themed songs . Though this song doesn't have any Alice In Wonderland or Wizard of Oz references , it includes quotes that have lately been getting really popular in the urban part of the industry . You kind of wonder why quotes like YOLO would have anything to do with a reverie themed song . Especially since this song seems to be about someone losing themselves because they can't handle the Hollywood life , but chooses to stay , just like the meaning behind ' Failed Escape ' , only not in such a dark tone as that one . New K-POP duo , Mi•Mi joins Coke in on the song about forcing herself into a reverie , trying to forget all of the downs that comes with the ups in Hollywood .

The 3 have worked together previous times before , ( Airemese helping them write both of their singles and even directed their video for ' Not Waiting Any Longer ' ) but has never actually jumped on a track together , until now . Despite being from 2 different corners of the Earth , the 3 surprisingly have very similar voices and they fit perfectly together . The song has a steady beat to it and adds a Contemporary R&B feel to it , a little different from what Mi•Mi have been known for so far , but it works for them .

' In The Moment ' starts with Misu and Miki harmonizing as they intro the song . They set a calm feeling to the song and even helps settle the rhythm . In the background you hear a series of voices in the background . This makes sense when you realize that Misu and Miki are playing Coke's conscious and all their parts and the background they take is explained . After the intro , Coke comes in and a drum helps ' announce ' her into the song . Her voice comes in strong and it is once again a voice not many have heard Coke sing in . It's strong , yet in a way sounds like it could crack or break at any moment . She sings the first few lines and then Mi•Mi comes in almost out of nowhere and sings in what could be mistaken as Coke herself singing lower . Right after that they proceed to singing background , from singing with Coke to echoing . This continues throughout the first verse .

As the first verse comes to an end the same drums that introduced Coke into the song , signatures the end of the first verse as Coke then goes on to the second . Her voice stays the same way as the music of the song changes up a bit . Coke starts the pre-hook and as soon as she finishes up the first line , Misu softly sings , | Stupid girl | as if Coke's conscious responded to the line before which said | Well I hate to disappoint , but I'm not that stupid | . Coke continues to the seconds line , getting a little defensive for no reason , | I'm a grown ass woman and I know just what I'm doing ... | And Miki comes in as a second voice of her conscious and firmly sings | Stupid girl . | , repeating what Misu did , but making all the difference from their tones and the impression it gives off . Coke then goes on to the third line as she uses popular quotes as an excuse of her actions , but then right after questions it and her ' conscious ' ( Mi•Mi ) asks it with her , showing how all of this talk is actually starting to take a toll on what she believes is right and wrong . Then Coke finishes the pre-hook with Mi•Mi continuing to come in .

The drums come back in and once again the section of the song ends . This time the hook starts and Coke sings the first four lines . They give you a clear insight on what exactly this song is about . The song is basically Nina Tarantino's version of ' Failed Escape ' except that in this song , the girl seems to be more focused on the ' consequences ' and not the actual fact that she's trapping herself in a life that she noticed isn't what it seems . Right after Coke is done with those 4 lines , She begins to say half of " the consequences " and lets Misu and Miki finish it off for her . This goes on for 2 times and on the third all 3 of them finish it the two words together and coke sings the rest of the sentence by herself . Miki then vocalizes the word | yea | right before Coke says the last line that leads into a different part of the hook . Now Misu and Miki sings the same part together with each other as Miki once again vocalizes the word " yea " at the end . Then Coke comes back in and repeats the last line and this goes on until the hook ends . That's when it repeats and fades out as Misu begins to sing over everything and takes the lead for the outro of the song , using her strong voice to blow the few lines . As she winds to the end of her solo part , the music by then has faded all out and Miki in a firm voice sings the last line to end it all off . | But I'm just living in the moment . |

[Intro]
Oh ... Oh ...
Oh ... Oh ...
Oh ... Oh ...
Oh ... Oh ...

[Verse 1]
Me and my conscious
We've been tight since the beginning
But lately it's been ruining my chances

So I ...
Have found a way to keep from doing anything stupid
People worry but it ain't nothing but a shot
That later turns into 10
Acting like i'm the only one who does it
And that I don't know the consequences

[Pre-hook]
Well I hate to disappoint , but I'm not that stupid
Stupid girl ...
I'm a grown ass woman and I know just what I'm doing ...
Stupid girl .
You only live once so live in the moment ...
Right ?
Just staying away from reality
A huh
Tryna forget the price I gotta pay ...
A huh
Oh ...

[Hook]
'Cause on the outside it looked like fun
But it turns out my vision's distorted
So I'll just keep drinking until it does
'Cause this is the life I've always wanted
The conse
quences
The consequences
The consequences
Just might tears us apart ... apart ... yea
But I'm just living in the moment .

In the moment , in the moment ... yea
I'm just living in the moment
In the moment , in the moment ... yea
I'm just living in the moment
In the moment , in the moment ... yea

[Outro Adlib over Hook ]
It looked like fun ...
I'll keep drinking ... I'll keep drinking ...
The conse ... the consequences
Just might tear me apart ... apart ... yea

But I'm just living in the moment .

Album : Epiphany
Track : Trap Life
Artist : Rum
( & Coke )
Genre : Alternative Hip Hop
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nina Tarantino
Produced by : NinaT and Flame 1 & 2
Length : 4:46

Trap Life is the anticipated songs on the whole album . It is the first track on ' Epiphany ' that Rum actually sings on . Ever since announced that Rum has decided to bring out her singing on their sophomore album , many people got excited , waiting to see exactly what the Cuban-Bajan-American rapper's voice would sound like . Finally after months of waiting , Rum & Coke performed on the Goldies and the first song performed was ' John Smith ' which features Rum's singing . All were stunned by her voice and it added a lot to the pile of anticipation Rum & Coke already had for ' Epiphany ' .

There's no one quite like Rum , who has the sultry inflection of Nelly Furtado, the disposition of Rihanna, and the majestically raw vocal prowess of Amy Winehouse and Fiona Apple- all with a Cuban accent of course . No one really expected that from the rapper . Especially after singing ' Chainless ' on the first Rum & Coke album , ' Venom & Versace ' , which she says was drowned in auto-tune . Her voice is magically complex and intoxicating , definitely something unforgettable . In this song Rum uses her voice as a weapon. It's meant to use the lyrics and the power of it to cut sharp and deep, straight to the chambers of the weak person's heart that she seems to be talking about controlling in ' Trap Life ' . The beat helps capture that throughout the song .

You kind of notice how at the beginning of the song , an electric guitar is played and somehow manages to play riffs that sound similar to a ' tick tock ' , almost saying time is out and then the hard beat slams in as Rum starts the song , almost as something is being broke down piece by piece . The music used to support all of the lyrics in this whole album are not just " dope " and " catchy " but artistic , and once again in a one of the song , using the music to fit right in and perfect the lyrics . At first Rum sings in a laid back tone , during the verses and the pre-hook , almost like she's taunting the person who fell into her trap and then in the hook , she begins to sing with more power , almost like she's warning others but at the same time still talking to that one person . Once the bridge comes in she uses the same amount of power in the hook to almost scream the lyrics as she sings them . The bridge eventually winds down by the end of it and then she goes on to the pre-hook and hook singing in that same " aftermath " tone .

Evaluation

[Verse 1]
They told you to set a price
Of what you're willin' to gain and lose
And if it ever became too expensive
Then the game isn't for you
Too bad you didn't listen
'Cause now you're payments are due
You said you'd do anything for it
Do you realize how far I could stretch anything to ?

[Pre-Hook]
So now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you
And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you

I wonder why you don't speak of Holly
In the same tone you used to
And why you're always poppin' mollies
But not for the same reason they do ?

[Hook]
Trap life
Be careful for what you wish
'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is
Trap life
Glamorized to the highest
But you better know for exactly what reason that is ...

[Verse 2]
And it is was what you forgot you knew
That left you so damn vulnerable
The fast lane called for you ...
You pictured your name in flashing lights
But cropped out ... the image of the price
And that's how you got schooled

[Pre-Hook]
And now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you
And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you

I wonder why you don't speak of Holly
In the same tone you used to
And why you're always poppin' mollies
But not for the same reason they do ?

[Hook]
Trap life
Be careful for what you wish
'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is
Trap life
Glamorized to the highest
But you better know for exactly what reason that is ...

[Bridge]
Fell into your ... dream , dream
Cause if you want it , you got it
That's all that you ... need , need
And the moment you got it you finally felt ... achieved , achieved
But the moment you realize it's not what it seems
It's too late

[Pre-Hook]
And now you're feet just move on the pavement I paved for you
And now you only wear the shoes that I buy for you

I wonder why you don't speak of Holly
In the same tone you used to
And why you're always poppin' mollies
I wonder why you don't speak of Holly
I wonder why you don't speak of Holly

[Hook]
Trap life
Be careful for what you wish
'Cause everything thing advertised isn't what it is

Album : Epiphany
Track : Frio Mundo
Artist : Rum
( & Coke )
Genre : Spanish Alternative
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nita Tarantino , Nina Tarantino
Produced by : inZane
Length : 2:45

Rum continues to amaze critics with her voice as she goes on to sing ' Frio Mundo ' ( ' Cold World ' in Spanish ) after singing ' Trap life ' . Rum's vocals in this song are nice and sharp in the beginning and they give off a determined feel when she begins to almost chant | Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no | and sings at the end of the song | Todo imperio fuerte ... Debe caer algun dia . | A guitar is lightly played throughout the whole song , perfectly matching up with Rum's singing . Once again , another song on this album cuts deep into your mind and makes you think . The guitar fits so right with the vocals that you can't help but keep this short lived song on replay .

[Verse 1]
Frio mundo ... que mas puedo decir ?
Te burlas de mi cuando estoy ciego
Y me tortura cuando estoy despierto
Frio mundo ... que mas puedo decir ?
Te burlas de mí cuando estoy ciego
Y me tortura cuando estoy despierto

[Hook]
Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no
Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no
Pero me he hecho a la idea ... no

[Verse 2]
Frío mundo ... que mas puedo decir ?
Te burlas de mi cuando estoy ciego
Y me tortura cuando estoy despierto
Frío mundo ... que mas puedo decir ?
Todo imperio fuerte ...
Debe caer algun dia .

Album : Epiphany
Track : Free From This
Artist : Rum
( & Coke ) ft. Yasmine
Genre : Alternative Hip Hop
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nina Tarantino
Produced by : NinaT , inZane and Flame 1&2
Length : 4:09

' Have Your Epiphany ' is definitely one of the most " vibable " songs on ' Epiphany ' . It features up and coming singer Yasmine , who usually sings Indie Folk/Rock/Pop . Unlike in her previous songs that she's been singing , Yasmine gets to use her monophonic voice in a fun way on this track . Rum finally begins to rap for the second time on this album after the 1st song ' Fear Not ' and the other 3 tracks she's on before this have all been her singing . This has been predicted to be the song that will get the most mainstream success because , unlike pretty much every other song on this album , it is upbeat and not only that , but really catchy . On this song , Rum raps like the old Rum we remember , way back when Rum & Coke were just famous Youtubers .

The song starts off with just snaps as Rum says the intro and then it runs right into Yasmine vocalizing and Rum continuing to say the pre-hook . Soon enough that trails into the still hook sung by Yasmine and then next thing you know Rum is spitting line after line . The 4 minutes of the song do go by quickly because you stay entertained the whole time by the beat and the way Rum frequently changes the pitch and tempo of her voice , as if she's actually talking to you and telling you some juicy gossip . Yasmine vocalizes throughout the whole song in the same rhythm , which kind of creates an add on to the beat . Once again Rum raps about something other than the basic ' hoes , drugs and money ' topics that other rappers seem to always rap about in this song . Her flow in this song has been called by critics " invigorating and gripping " as she uses the techniques of rapping like she's gossiping to pull in the crowd and also educate them by aiming to give them their " epiphany " . Yasmine's voice in the still beat completes the whole thing as the hook ends the song . Everything in and about this song works together perfectly and the constant changes in the beat of the song that differ from Yasmine's vocals to snaps and a still beat to a stimulating one tops it all off .

Rum
Yasmine

[Intro]
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany

[Pre-Hook]
B-b-blow your motherfucking mind
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Puff puff pass the knowledge to your right side
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Take it how you wanna , Imma put it aside
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Perceive it if you wanna 'cause Imma put it down like ...
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )

[Hook]
Open your eyes ... take a breath
Don't be scared ... take my hand
Even though ... you might not know
Trust me yo' ... you wanna be ... free from this

[Verse 1]
I've seen things you could never live with
Things that would blind your vision
Face it , Nina's life isn't something you'd wanna deal with
On a daily basis , all I saw was ghost and painted faces
Nowadays all I see is the raiders , the raided and the overrated
The money makers , paper chasers and hypnotists along the oasis
Obligated , is there a such thing as a safe haven ?
Obfuscated , what sense is this making ?
Objection ! What does this have to do with me ?
Why the fuck do I care if you have your epiphany ?
Shit , Ionn' know , maybe freedom is overrated
But that's yo' decision
You want a piece of the pie ? Make yo' incision
Life is so much easier when YOU decide the way you're gonna live it
The world would be too , but we're too incoherent
7 billion , couldn't make peace if we tried , too bad our life depends on it ...

[Pre-Hook]
B-b-blow your motherfucking mind
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Puff puff pass the knowledge to your right side
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Take it how you wanna , Imma put it aside
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )
Perceive it if you wanna 'cause Imma put it down like ...
( Oh woah oh oh-ohh )

[Hook]
The truth came out ... it's on you now
Back away ... or you could stay
Don't be scared ... take my hand
Trust me yo ... you wanna be ... free from this

[Verse 2]
Who the hell is this ?
Callin' my phone at 3:26
Sittin' here tryna tell me how to live
Like Imma give up my morals for a few cents , nah , Rum has entirely too much sense ...
To be lured into a crap deal
Uh , what the fuck am I gonna do with a few toys and a Happy Meal ?
Like damn , I got more and lost less in a crack deal
I even learned shit on the way , I'm being forreal !
But I left that life , so what makes you think that I
Will redo the curse of ignorance that was implanted on my life
I got 2 eyes and they work perfectly fine
So you sittin' here tryin' to tell me this is the way , lets me know that you're blind
I could obtain all success ? You're just wasting my time
I could do that if I wanted , just biding my time
Now look , I'm 22 , loyal , intact and at my prime
How ? Because I was never settled on the dimes
Why chase a diamond when I could have the mine ?
Isn't perseverance the key to what you want in life ?

[Hook]
They say the truth will ... set you free
Look around ... nothing's what it seems
That I know ... and you will too
Trust me yo' ... because I'm ... free from this

[Intro]
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany
Have your epiphany

Album : Epiphany
Track : Ain't What It Seems
Artist : Rum
( & Coke )
Genre : Alternative Hip Hop
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Airemese Smith
Produced by : inZane and Flame 1 & 2
Length : 2:54

Right after the upbeat rap song ' Free from This ' , ' Mirror ' comes in and calms everything down to transition back to the laid back music that this album is solely based on . The song starts off with a soft intro that kind of carries the listener into the song right before a simple but strong beat smashes in , following something that sounds like a " tock " . This isn't the first time in the album that some type of " tock " was used , the same thing appeared on ' Trap life ' when in the intro a guitar played something similar to the sound of a " tick tock " to give off the time's running out feel to the song . This is the same thing that happens in this song , except for the " tock " plays throughout the whole song instead of just the intro . Almost like Rum is trying to warn before time runs out . Once again , just the beat portrays the whole song for Rum & Coke and become one with the lyrics instead of just background music .

In the first verse , Rum sings in her Cuban accent again , and on the track it's almost shaky . She does a great job of representing a helpless voice in this song . She says that she doesn't sing much , yet her voice is that of a professional's with high training . The control she has in this song seems so little until you actually try to sing the first and second verse yourself and realize that it's hard to cut the words off as sharp ( but still shaky ) as she did . The lyrics to the first verse are bold if you know what she's talking about , but at the same time might seem vague if you don't . The track list and the order of it was carefully looked over and over by Rum & Coke to make sure that things were clear on what was going on . They say themselves that all production and recording was pretty much done by May , but it took them some time to be absolutely positive that the order of the track list and the cutting was done perfectly . They had to stall themselves some time with their E.P , 7 Deadly Sins , so that the buzz around Rum & Coke would just fade away as they took their precious time figuring everything out .
" What's the point of naming an album epiphany if no one realizes anything ? " says Coke . By now , if the listener hasn't caught on , they haven't been paying any attention to the lyrics of any of the songs from before .

Once the pre-hook begins , the simple beat turns into a beat that's a little more complex than the original and the song itself speeds up just a little . Instruments and synths in the background are overshadowed by the strong beat , but adds a big effect to the feeling given off by the music and the lyrics that Rum's sings . In the pre-hook , her voice goes from a soft warning to a firm one as she belts lots of power in the section of the song and then ends it off back the way she sung in the first verse . This helps transition her into the 2nd verse easily .

It almost seems like the hook was skipped and the song instead slides right past it and goes right to the second verse as the second verse begins . Rum & Coke has managed to tease the crowd all throughout ' Epiphany ' by taking away hooks and shortening some songs and in this case , not introducing the hook until the end of the song . They pull it off every time though . The second verse is much like the first . It starts out with Rum singing in that shaky but sharp voice just like earlier , but then the same sped up beat from the pre-hook begins to play in the middle of the second verse as her voice also starts to sound a little more like how it did in the pre-hook .

When the second hook ends , it already sounds similar to the pre-hook so the transition to it is very smooth . The pre-hook doesn't change much from the first time it played earlier in the song before the second hook . Rum sings the same notes she did before , but since the beat was playing through the second verse it does't play in the pre-hook . It does come back on however , when the hook finally plays as almost the outro of the song .

[Verse 1]
No it ain't what it seems
We're all living a dream
Need y'all to hear me out please
I just say what I see
Just tryna make you see
And give you an epiphany
'Cause we can't plan to succeed
If we're all fast asleep

[Pre-Hook]
Well I don't know what it means to you
But I don't like being lied to
'Cause when the truth comes out it won't just affect you
When the truth comes out it'll affect a few
I don't know if you already knew
But the world is evil even when the skies are blue
Can you hear me ?
I could help you ...

[Verse 2]
We're all tryna face our demons
That's where we angled our defense
And even a little at our friends
Just in case somebody felt like backstabbing
But it's just not enough
And you wonder why life's so tough
'Cause in the wrong people you put yo' trust
God knows they're the wrong people to trust ...

[Pre-Hook]
Well I don't know what it means to you
But I don't like being lied to
Cause when the truth comes out it won't just affect you
When the truth comes out it'll affect a few
I don't know if you already knew
But the world is evil even when the skies are blue
Listen to me
I could help you ...

[Hook]
No it ain't what it seems ...
Wake up and see that it ain't what it seems
Distorted visions of what we call free
Nothing , nothing , nothing
It's not what it seems
No it ain't ... no no

Album : Epiphany
Track : Wake Up
Artist : Rum
( & Coke ) ft. Matt Young
Genre : Hip Hop Rap
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nina Tarantino
Produced by : Flame 1&2
Length : 3:52

' Wake Up ' starts off with a really dark feeling intro . It gives off a very dramatic feeling , especially when vocals come in singing in an operatic manner . Something you would probably hear in a movie when someone is about to get into some trouble . Or maybe it would be the same thing you hear in a movie when the characters arrive in to a mysterious place or something in that sort . All in all , it fits right into the theme of ' Wake Up ' which tackles a lot of ironic things about America- or could really be any country -that claims to be free , yet pretty much traps people into certain positions , like poverty , and giving out distorted visions of it to the citizens of it and people outside of the country .

The intro of all the theatrical voices , after a while , are cut off and immediately Rum begins rapping the first verse right off the back . This song is the last track that is solely based on ( or is lead by ) Rum's rapping on the album other than their last single off of the album , ' Money Makes Fools ' . In all there are only 4 songs on ' Epiphany ' that focuses on Rum's rapping out of the 17 tracks . Her reasoning for only rapping on such little tracks was simply , " Because I sang on the others . " Seems like a good excuse since fans already expected their sophomore album to be a little more focused on Rum's singing since she announced it . " I promise I'll make it up on our next album though ! It was just so hard to avoid all the anticipation my singing was going to create so I had to make sure there were just enough songs I sung in . "

Once her rap is over , Rum begins the hook . It isn't much , just every now and then she says , | Wake up | , prior to the beat that is being played . She does that 8 times until finally it is time for Matt's verse . Matt and Rum met at Buzz & Hype's freestyle competition back in May . The two went at it hard and both spit amazing lines , but just by a few cheers , Matt Young won their round . 3 months later Rum hit MattY up and told him that she'd love to do a collaboration with him anytime he wanted . It took some time but when she finally made ' Wake Up ' she called him again and asked him to jump on the track . He did and everything turned out perfect . His rap tuned in perfectly with the rest of the song and the beat .

When MattY finishes his rap , he then goes on to say the hook just like Rum did and afterwards the bridge begins . Rum raps the bridge in almost a whisper tone , as if she's telling a secret to somebody and the beat also calms down too . When the beat begins to rise , so does the volume of Rum's voice and once she returns to a normal voice level , the bridge by then is finished and she goes back to saying the hook . This time Matt Young says it with her and it continues until the beat fades out and the song finally ends .

[Verse 1]
Welcome to America , land of the free
Where all the upper class folks are rich as can be
And everybody else is caught up in poverty
Your value as a person is based on your money
And it's almost like nobody even sees
That if you're born anywhere but Wall Street
You aren't expected to rise above these darkened streets
Livin' in this country is a muthafuckin prodigy
No we don't got tanks roaming the blocks
But their trying to make us live and love institution
And all they're worried about is what is bold
How fucking long will it take for this to come to fruition ?
Ha ... and that's the sickest part
They got you chasing the dream and you're all caught up
You're wrapped around their finger , yo' I swear you're being mocked
This is a Public Service Announcement ... wake up !

[Hook]
Wake Up (x8)

[Verse 2]
Wake up motherfucker, I said wake up.
Don't you realize that the whole world just went pop?
This world is a struggle, this world ain't no game,
So man's got to end this shit in order to stay sane,
Success should be measured by how you feel inside,
Not the way that the world sees it, are you pockets filled with dimes?
The world leaders gather all the fucking time,
But we don't see no improvements, so all i can do is fucking rhyme.
I'll spit this shit all day long, and i'll help promote this fucking song,
But the entire world is going wrong, so i'd best keep moving, staying strong,
Moving forwards - escalating,
keeping my career elevating,
To new heights, and unexplored territories,
This undiscovered world comes with no pedigree,
We are all fucking different, no one is the same,
So wake up motherfuckers, it's time to end the game.

[Hook]
Wake Up (x8)

[Bridge]
Greed used to be about how many animals you decided to kill
Now it's about displaying bodies all over the Earth for a little oil to spill
The world used to be about focusing on your grind
But as of right now it's wake up time
I'm too gold to be controlled , it's just not my thing
I stayed loyal and received abundance , something like a promise ring
Just notice the obstacles and overcome them , you too can do the same
Wake yourself up and end the fucking game

Album : Epiphany
Track : Painted Faces
Artist : Rum & Coke
Genre : PBR&B
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Airemese Smith , Nina Tarantino
Produced by : NinaT , Flame 1&2 and inZane
Length : 3:52

'Painted Faces' is probably the one song in the album that is different from every other . Almost any album you buy these days will have at least one . The theme of 'Painted Faces' song fits perfect with the conspiracies Rum & Coke have been singing and rapping about throughout the whole album , but 'Epiphany' has pretty much been full of slow paced , laid backs songs , while this one somewhat gives you a nostalgic feel , with it's distinctive ,yet groovy, "pacy" beat .

Coke takes the lead of this song and uses it to once again sow off her crazy work ethic . " I don't just want to be that girl who sung for Rum . I want to stand out , so I'm not holding back on this album , I'm hitting the notes and controlling my vocals . " Coke explains in an interview . She once again sings in that 'alternative voice' she used all the way in the beginning of the album on the first two tracks , 'Fear Not' and 'Epiphany' . Every now and then Rum's comes in as well , sometimes simply saying , | But yo ... | and others vocalizing and participating in singing the lyrics . Her voice acts as the 'salt & pepper' for the delicious salad Coke presents to us .

The most notable part about the song is when in the pre-hook Coke begins to sing in that captivating high voice that almost sounds child-like . She at first it's like she gives us a dose of it every line she sings because she takes a very brief , but noticeable , pause between each one and then in the hook begins to drag her words in the high pitch . It really gives off the perfect feeling and when Rum joins in every now and then makes it the ideal ear candy . During the 2nd time the pre-hook and hook plays , the energetic and kind of nostalgic beat is replaced by a heavy hip hop one and continues for the first 2 lines , which Rum joins in on . After those first two lines from the hook having that hip hop beat , the original one comes back in and Coke finishes the song , once again dragging her words in that heavenly voice .

Rum

[Verse 1]
Seems like everybody's stressing
Losing their wits over this recession
Slowly running out ... of strength
And turning their backs on common sense .

[Hook]
But yo ...
Who do you think you've fooled ?
Who do you think I am ?
I've caught you on all your bull
And to expose it , I'm determined ...

[Verse 2]
'Cause I'm aware ... Of painted faces .
Yea I'm aware ... Of painted faces .

From the start ... I admit ... I wasn't .
But now I'm aware ...
Of painted faces .

[Verse 2]
Seems like everybody commits crime
But only few actually do the time
Violence slowly taking over our lives
Warfare soon to wipe out all mankind .

[Pre-Hook]
But yo ...
Who do you think you've fooled ?
Who do you think I am ?
I've caught you on all your bull
And to expose it , I'm determined ...

[Hook]
Because , I'm aware ... Of painted faces .
Yea I'm aware ... Of painted faces .

Because , I'm aware ... Of painted faces .
Yea I'm aware ... Of painted faces .

From the start ... I admit ... I wasn't .
But now I'm aware ...
Of painted faces .

Album : Epiphany
Track : Cold World
Artist :
( Rum & )Coke
Genre : N/A
Label : Tric-Jam Records
Written by : Nita Tarantino , Nina Tarantino
Produced by : inZane
Length : 2:45

The awakening that the album 'Epiphany' has been now comes to an end as Coke wraps everything up with 'Cold World' . It sounds and is composed just like the Spanish song 'Frio Mundo' that Rum sung in the first half of the album . It's pretty much an exact replica of it . The only difference is that Coke sings it and in English . Though Coke doesn't have the texture of Rum's singing voice , with the heavy Cuban accent and shaky vocal prowess , she still manages to sing in a strong voice that somewhat reminds you just of Rum's . Her vocals , just like in the original song , are nice and sharp , and a guitar lightly strums throughout the song , to match up perfectly with the vocals .

It becomes quite evident that 'Frio Mundo' and 'Cold World' were used as transition songs for the album as they switched topics . Starting the album off with talking about the evil in Hollywood to the evil in everyday life . Their reasoning for not just having 2 completely different songs or just simply using the same song was because of the message they wanted it to imply . Generally , the album was in a way " aimed " towards their American crowd because they're the center of the topics it was based on , and most American's speak English , not Spanish . The Spanish version was used to mark the ending of the first half of the album and the start of the two going on to sing and rap about deeper topics and even more bold lyrics to let all know exactly what they were talking about . So it would make sense that their audience might misinterpret the album from just the beginning and maybe not even understand what exactly the lyrics are stating . Then after 'Frio Mundo' , several bold songs like , 'Wake Up' and 'Painted Faces' appear on the album which lets the listener know exactly the whole theme of the album is and ends off everything with 'Cold World' , the overall summary in their language , as if they've just had the epiphany .

[Verse 1]
Cold ... world ... what more can I say ?
You mock me when I'm blind
And torture me when I'm awake
Cold ... world ... what more can I say ?
You mock me when I'm blind
And torture me when I'm awake

[Hook]
But I've made up my mind ... no
But I've made up my mind ... no
But I've made up my mind ... no

[Verse 2]
Cold ... world ... what more can I say ?
You mock me when I'm blind
And torture me when i'm awake
Cold ... world ... what more can I say ?
Every strong empire ...
Must fall someday .
